In general, when you walk around, do you walk in 1st, or 3rd person view?

I alternate, when i'm standing stationary in say an xp pt as a mage job then I'll go 1st person since i don't need to see anything, but when I'm meleeing, especially tanking, i go 3rd person since in 1st person there are too many obstructions to the camera and it is easier to see.

I only switch to 1st person when I want to blind myself from buffing myself with spells which isnt often...lol

edit: I meant first I use 3rd most of the time

3rd, 1st person limits your view too much to be useful for most activities.

Why? You don't know how to read?

Mainly when I run around it's in first person because I just find it easier to navigate. When I party though I just spin around the fight to keep from extreme bordome setting in. /autotarget off is the way to play.

3rd for the most part. I rarely use 1st person. I remember when I started playing, I used 1st person a lot more because I found it easier to control, but I like to be able to see more. :P

3rd Person. 1st is only useful walking around in Al'Taieu, when you need to keep your eyes on the ground and the sky. You can see Phaubo and Yovra easily in 1st Person.

I go second person baby.

(3rd all the time, only time I go first is for taking screenshots of scenery and stuff)

FFXI - first in town third in battle.

WoW - third. period.

Read what? I don't recall any signs or anything that you actually have to read. Chat logs are the same in both viewpoints.

First person cuts down a ~120 degree viewpoint to maybe a 60 degree viewpoint. It's harder to avoid aggro and navigate a narrow path since you can't see exactly where you're standing. Changing directions is also much faster in third person, since you don't have to stop and turn around, you just walk in the direction. The only advantage to first person is that you can look up or down further than you can in third person, but the only time you'd really need that is watching out for UFO's in sea like skaw said.

I mainly use my first person perspective for a fraction of a second to center the camera behind me if I need it, anything else it's annoying.

I like when im running around in places to be in 1st like up long stairs and paths etc~

Think the only time I've ever used first person was to make sure im lined up correctly for TA. 3rd person 4tw.

I always do third...I go in first when I'm bored though, and then I play with the camera and I can't turn all the way arooound and the when I get bored of that I go back to third and turn around and see "Oh! Thats what I couldn't see while standing in that spot in first person view, o-m-geee!"

...yaythird.

I walk around in 3rd person with the camera ~90 degrees because it allows me to see more and helps me avoid aggro. I'll use first person while in a camp though and occationally pop it into 3rd when I want to whip the camera around to look for pops or just admire a skillchain animation from a distance.

1st person view for when I want to autorun and accidently hit 5 instead of 7 on the keypad.

3rd for everything else. Imean as a taru, in first person, it's hard to see much more than the ground.

i like to go 1st person while riding a choco from one place to another, but other than that ill use 3rd person

lol, I love switching to first person while running on my taru mule. For some reason, it feels like I am running incredibly fast compared to other races because I am so low to the ground.

I switch between first and third quickly and very randomly. I prefer third person mainly because you can see a lot more, but sometimes I go to first for different perspectives especially when I need to move in an exact way like lining up for SATA or the mountain in Attawa (sp?) you climb for ENMs.

Where do you get your numbers from, or should I say how horrible is your PC that 3rd person only gives you a 120 degree veiw point. Well in any case maybe it's the fact that I use a controller for most stuff outside of assisting main tanks, but if you can't avoid agro in first person mode, I know why you play PvE only MMOs. Probably wouldn't last long in a good FPS.

it's around 120 degrees in front of you, you can see a few feet around all sides of you in third person, but not enough to really qualify as 360 degree view. Comparing FFXI to an FPS is flawed, since you don't have to stop to turn to avoid something in a FPS. Third person offers far more advantages than just that "FPS feel."
