This page screwed me up, or straightened me out. One of the two.

Steel Cyclone requires an Aqua Gorget? Hexa Strike requires a Flame? I've always been led to believe it was Breeze / Light respectively.

Also, Raging Rush - since it's main elemental attribute is Induration, I presume I want a Snow Gorget for that one?

Gorgets have always confused the piss out of me. I think it's based on where they fall on the nonlight/dark skillchain chart. For example: Even though XXX Skill closes Distortion, it's part of the earth/scission block of weaponskills, which would make it earth attribute.

It's not the colour of the little box on the weaponskill page?

<~~ Doesn't hit stuff very often...

Nah, because gorgets affect hand to hand skills, but the only elemental-based hand to hand weaponskill is the stun portion of Shoulder Tackle.

Every other skill is grayed out, meaning no elemental damage/effect.

My understanding (disclaimer: I may be and quite possibly am wrong) is that for WS's that have multiple element skillchains, any of those elements will work. For example:

Hexa Strike: Fusion box, fire or light gorget
Asuran Fists: Gravitation box and Liquefaction box, fire or earth or dark gorget.
Rampage: Scission box, earth gorget.
Sidewinder/Slug Shot: Reverberation, Transfixion, and Detonation boxes, water or light or wind gorget.

(In the case of the non-level-3-skillchain boxes, I think Rampage's box counts as Scission, not as Scission-and-Distortion, so earth would work but water and ice would not. But for something like Full Break, in the level 3 Distortion box, water and ice would both work.)

The easiest way to tell for non-lvl 3 WS. What lvl 1 SC can the WS close. Example. Guillotine can close Induration. So its snow.

Are you honestly saying that there is valuable information on Killing Ifrit?

Crazy some'd say.

Yeah that link will do it, thanks Deci.

Big - Raging Rush closes 2 lv1 chains. Put that in yo pipe and smoke it.

You sure? I have never seen a certain WS close 2 seperate lvl 1 SCs. Definately never thought that was even possible.

There are plenty... just taking a quick glace at my chart I see that:

Tachi: Koki closes Impaction and Reverberation.
Tachi: Goten closes Impaction and Transfixion.
Tachi: Yukikaze closes Detonation and Induration.
Tachi: Jinpu closes Detonation and Scission.
Tachi: Enpi closes Scission and Transfixion.

These are just the GK WS's.

Take a look at the link above, any WS with 2 Lv1 elements will close those SC's.

i must be out of my mind right now... i blame it on being tired, or maybe i really am just a dumbass.

There are WS that close up to 3 Skillchains, like siewinder, which closes Detonation, Transfixation, and reverbaration.

Then Spinning axe closes Scission Liquifaction and Ipaction.

and I like Skaws new avatar. Korgoth would be more fiting though.

Theres only 3 WS's that can close 3 SC's.

Sidewinder/Slug Shot (Detonation, Transfixion, Reverberation), Spinning Axe (Impaction, Liquifaction, Scission) and Skewer (Impaction, Compression, Transfixion).

You also need to take into consideration the fact that some weapon skills attributes will close different skillchains. Like how Tachi: Jinpu can close Distortion even though we all know its a wind based attack and such. I don't follow the weapons attributes, I just use my handy skillchain chart, and that works just fine for me.

BTW: Toki Wartooth = t3h shit.

the only chart i ever used for this quest is this.
on the list of SC's for that said WS just pick any gorget that works for that said one.

i.e
Tachi: Yukikaze is ice and wind
Tachi: Gekko is water and ice
Tachi: Kasha is Fire Light and dark
In that case the better idea for whatever SAM would be for Snow gorget since thats for both Yuki and Gekko and then whichever tehy want for Kasha.

On a similar but seperate note... Deci have you parsed your gorget versus PCC? My results so far are highly disappointing, but I'm using it on a lvl 74 job so maybe it's the one lvl of accuracy rearing its ugly head.

Its your other ws gear not the gorget. Look at deci's ws modification part of his site. To sum it up:
Gorget will increase dmg over pcc because it adds a .1 modification.
#1 be sure you hit all hits on ws, getting full tp return. Add accuracy until this happens.
#2 In all other slots add the attribute modifier(s) (STR in most cases).

Gorgets won't increase ws damage if you can't overcome the 10 accuracy loss from pcc, but there are other slots where this can be modified.
