Jesus christ!!! I just looked at the price of Wild Onions in Windy and they are 30-35k! Why!?!! Why in god's name are they so expensive! Less than a month ago they were around 11k or so, but what the hell happened that they rose so much!?

Did SE gimp the drop rate or something???

Wow 8O Guess people don't like farming Goblin Thugs these days. XD AFAIK the drop rate hasn't been gimped, got a few onions the other day leveling DRG.

>.> u serious? Ive been droping those left and right because when i first checked of them they were 1k

Possibly the price increase is from an influx of people leveling cooking, making profit on Miths. Well. Least not anymore. I dunno though.

Hey hey, check out my sig's newest feature.

Talking with Eleibfrid is always interesting.

Forget the onion,s how bout Silent Oils/Prism Powders. Buying a stack each at ah in jeuno would run 50k now (23k + 27k). It is really going to start to affect the way people play...

Firebrand

Tell me about it. If they had an NPC that sold wild onions for a region, we wouldn't have this huge spike.

I dunno what can be done about the oils/powders tho. I don't use em much so I could really care less.

I don't know how much Beeswax was before, but i once paid 40k for a stack. I read about it and learned it is a level 5 Alchamy recipe, so i bought a ton of Distilled water and a ton of Fire crystals and went to Giddeus to make them from Behive chips... So Fire crystal, 1 Distilled water, and 3 Beehive chips (which drop like mad with a 15 THF subbed) = 1 Beeswax.

With a very good success rate, it did take kinda long to make one stack, 37 chips had to drop... Bleh, ok i see why it costs so much... I'll post this messege anyway, as a cry for an Alchemist to help me.

Sold a stack in Bastok for 15k last week ... didn't know it jumped -that- high . . . O_O

It's the only ingrediant you can jack up and not expect people to farm for. They are most commonly used for Kabobs, so that is probably where they are going, but I would say the price hike has to do with the lack of new players recently.

As far as oils and powders.... Remember all those giant flames basically demanding that everyone have these on them or they are noob/gimp/a burden on everyone? Well people followed the advice and crafters realized that they were making something that would commonly be used by many and there was no alternative item to compete with.

When people raise the price of beeswax, you raise the price of oils. When people raise the price of glass/carbon threads and gobbie masks (which are the primary desynth to get threads) you raise the price of powders. Sucks, but these synths prices are most likely being affected by the rising price of their components. Powders shouldn't rise too much with all the melee that sub NIN, but the ingrediants are still expensive.

the way i look at it is this.as long as people keep hiking the prices of gear,
crafters are gonna hike the prices of the stuff they make like silent oils,
prism powders etc.. also farmers are gonna hike the prices of the stuff they farm like tree cuttings, wild onions, etc.like back when i took a break in August, assault earrings were only 400k apiece now they're 2 million
apiece, which i dont think they are worth that much but i have to get them for my Dragoon job.i guess its the way the economy in the game works.i do agree that 30k for wild onions is kinda rediculous but because of the inflation people have to make that money somehow and the farmers are gonna take advantage of the fact that alot of crafters of cooking are either to lazy to farm them or choose not to (like i am with alchemy sometime lol)
but thats just the way i see it.(oh btw this is my fist post anywhere YaY ^^)

I'm guessing that oils and powders have risen so high of late is because everyone and their grandmother has Sky access now.

I remember starting out Smiletiny once told me to farm onions because they went for 4k a stack. >_>

It's NOT just the price of beeswax that controls the price of silent oils. It's the price of beehive chips themselves, and the price of slime oils that really do the most damage. You may notice that beeswax goes up, but this is generally accompanied by (and is the result of) an increase in the price of beehive chips.

I'd say that most mid-level alchemists never buy beeswax; it's too cost-saving to make it yourself. There is a group of people that do nothing but HQ on beeswax and sell it off to higher-level alchemists or powerlevelling crafters for profit, but I don't think most go this route.

This is certainly true of me, and if the number of people I see synthing beeswax in Jeuno and Bastok before immediately following it up with an oil synth is any indication, it's true across the board. You're just missing out on a lot of HQ cost-saving if you don't make the beeswax yourself. Beehive chips, on the other hand, while very easy to get, can take a very long time to farm. This is really what makes beehive chips move so quickly, and is why so many people farm them: a lot more people are buying beehive chips in their raw form than the refined beeswax.

The thing with inflation, particularly when considering consumables, is that everything is so intimately linked. When some lag in supply (or just a few ambitious people) raise the price on one thing, there's a chain reaction on a whole slew of related products that creates inflation across the board.

What I am most frustrated with, personally, is inflation in equipment and spells. I mean, take Sleepga II for example: I started watching the price on it a month or two ago, and it was hovering at around 600k. Not only that, but only one or two copies of the spell would be up every day. Fast forward a few months, and they're going for TWICE that, with 4-8 copies up at a time. There's nothing hurting the supply THERE, and yet, it only takes the careful, gradual price-raising of a few determined people to get the thing to explode.

think quetzys bad... check some other servers' forums... i heard on Phoenix that a stack of firecrystals was up to 12k in jeuno at one point... and O.Kotes were upto almost 9mil on another server, (Ramuh? can't remember..)... atleast from how it seems, Quetzy isnt that bad yet, in compairison to other servers... that doesnt mean Im not complaining silent oils and such are 30k now though >.>

I just have a quick question... How come you flamed the whole concept of inflation? So what if something went up 2x it's old price? Chances are, the thing you sell to make money (or whatever) went up almost if not exactly 2x it's old price. Heck, even the teleports are worth like 2-5k now, when about 2 months ago, you could get them for 500-1000g. There's inflation in RL too, and you don't see every person on the street because they're dirt poor.

This isn't just a response to you Thnikkaman, so don't take it personally that I quoted your post up top. ^^

The OP wasn't really flaming inflation. He's flaming supply and demand. Inflation is the gradual rise of all services and goods over an extended period of time. He was flaming the 200% increase in Wild Onions over the course of a few weeks. Has everything on the server gone up by 200% in that time? No. So it's not inflation.

Inflation has occurred over the last few months (quite a bit too), but not to the extent of this single observation. Also, inflation doesn't exactly happen in the game world the same way it does in the real world. The main problem with FFXI's inflation is that it doesn't effect Vendor prices. All those fishermen who sell to vendors are getting reamed by the recent inflation. Everyone who farms items that you can buy from vendors are also getting the shaft. The farmers could mark up their items, but chances are only the uninformed players will pay double for an item that can be purchased from a vendor.

The price of wild onions went up because some greedy asshats decided that they were going to jack the prices, since demand was higher than supply. I'm sure there are plenty of people farming gobbies as we speak, and the price will come down to a more respectable level in a couple days.

Wild Onions are pretty easy to get from gobbies on the hills in Bastok. Go get 'em.

Yea, thx for clearing that up Taruwaru. Plus, I was using the onions for tomato soup for the guild points.

But yea, I feel one major issue to this (which is pretty obvious) is the whole gil selling. It's like my 11th grade english teacher said, "The cafeteria people know how much money the average teenager has and they charge you according to that. Now, if you all suddenly got 1000 dollars a day for no reason at all and the people got wind of this, they wouldn't charge you a dollar for that bag of Doritos. You'd see a nice mark up to about ten bucks for that bag of chips and twenty for that hotdog."

A lot of people are buying gil and it seems the farmers are marking it up just for them.

time is money item which can not be bought and have to be made tend to run up in price because of items that got to be farmed and cant be bought via store or guild. this would be supply demand at it greatest

When inflation happens...

Cash in on it. :P

I almost have a level 50 thf, and cooking is my main craft. I have to farm Onions...... i'm one of the ones who COULD jack the prices, but i wont... i need them for kabobs :D
