Info on Jobs and Adjustments

the older players didn't lose the concept phishin. the newer player are the ones that dont really know what SC's and MB's are for the most part. well till they start using them when they get to endgame events. SE broke their SC system with the addition of ToAU. the exp mobs there dont have enough HP to warrent one so people stopped using them.

Thats not completely true. No one SCs in old exp spots anymore either, and fights tend to go a bit faster not limited by mp. People just discovered something better ;ike baj said.

Yeah I should rephrase that. Many of the new players have no idea what a renkei chart is, although the older players seem to be rusty with timing weapon skills and magic bursts for places where skillchain + magic burst is still applicable. Regarding SC in parties and merits, its not hard to do, even unplanned, if you keep track of who uses their weapon skill and when. I do it as often as I can in merits. If i know another melee is going to weapon skill soon, I'll hold off at 100 TP and weapon skill, maybe one swing and a couple seconds later, for the additional skillchain damage.

But back on topic, I dont feel sam "needs" this ability, nor any of the 2h update stuff, although this new proposed ability seems to be a nice efficiency tool. I felt sam was pretty complete when hasso, seigan, overwhelm were introduced. Imho sam was very close to the nerfstick line after these came out, but that's from a perspective of a sam with capped merits throughout the evolution of these abilities and traits.

i havent lvled a lower lvl job in at least a year. so i have no idea what they do first hand.

Skillchains are strong, just not fast. my staic, when it was fully intact, we'd SC all the time no problem. but when we lost our samuri @ 55 i started doing what phish does, watch who uses what and SC off them. i had to build up extra TP for sidewinder anyway. But the 3 of us are exping in the mire now, so my WS's pretty much destroy the mob when they hit it so there is no need for SC'ing there.

Maybe if SE improved the SC system itself instead of making them more obsolete by making melee players even more powerful we'll see them used again.

I have a feeling the new SAM JA will be something like this:

JA - 5 or 15 min timer
JA - Next WS only uses 100TP

It will be something that will be nice but not too game breaking. This JA wont help the LSes that burn Kirin down in 90 seconds anymore then they already do but it will help LSes that take 90 minutes to kill him - kill him a little faster. Plus I am 0/8 on soboro pops for myself so self-SC would be fun for me to do (only 62 so dont have all the good gear to do it yet myself).

I don't see how the ability is all that broken. Normally, people spam WS at 100% anyways so it's not a huge improvement and in order to make it useful, you'd need 200+ TP or close (just under + TP gained from 1st WS). The only additional damage this creates is the added damage from the SC. The JA timer is probably only 5 or 10 mins since most job abilities seem to be around and I highly doubt 15 mins because I think only merit abilities are that high.

And didn't SE say they were going to enhance SC damage? When is that going to happen?

Its part of the updates, but they do like 3-4 jobs at a time. No idea when which one will be put in.

the thing about SC's i liked the most was that it built cooperation in the party. while effective i feel just spamming WS's makes a non-cannon party look more like a group of individuals as apposed to a single unit. Back when i could make a party at the drop of a dime i had a chain ready for the group and we worked like a military unit almost once we got going. exp flowed like water and mobs dropped like flies. thats the feeling i miss the most.

They drop even faster now that I don't have Smn telling me to SC so they can Magic burst...

i couldnt MB unless i wasnt the main healer. and even then i didnt do it often cause elph would yell at me for taking her MB glory. she and i lvl'd smn and blm together.

It didn't really build up any cooperation within the party. In 90% of pickup parties, doing skill chains meant me spamming my TP once I was over 100% waiting to hear from my idiot partner who couldn't figure out to let me know when he was ready to go, even after explaining to them several times. Then, we'd have to sit and wait on the blm to be ready; by which time I was usually close to 200% and the mob was close to dead. Sometimes we'd go ahead with the skillchain which would make the magic burst pretty irrelevant given it'd only remove the last 5-10% of the mob's hp; or we'd wait until the next fight, possibly losing our chain in the process, and kill that mob insanely fast and then have to start the whole process over again. If you're in a static, you've already got the teamwork down so doing a skill chain really doesn't improve it at all.

With TP burns, you don't have two other people limiting your performance and holding back the effectiveness of the party. I'm better geared than most of the other DD's I'm up against because I try my damnedest to be as good as I can be and without having to wait on other people to skill chain I can actually take advantage of that gear; which results in faster kills and therefore more exp/hour for everyone. You let people perform at their potential, rather than hold back the exceptional jobs/players so that everyone can get their job done at the same time. Rather than bring everyone down to the level of the weakest link, you let each perform at it's best; it's a far more effective means to get exp, which is why standard skill chain parties are so rare nowadays.

In merit cannons, everyone's on the same page, everyone's working together, without any instructions or constant monitoring. That's actually better teamwork than your traditional skill chain party; we're working together seamlessly without even needing to talk about it.

This is of course not counting soboro samurai's, who make skill chain spam out of TP spam. I was doing distortion with 2 war/nin's and a nin, with only a very small slow down in their WS usage; and I barely touched meditate in the process.

Edit: as a guide to how more efficient non-skill chain parties are: when skill chains were king, 3k an hour was standard for a party, 4k an hour was a really good party, 5k an hour was an awesome party. Before ToAU was even released, with WS spamming parties, those numbers all went up 1k each; so 4k for average, 5k for good, 6-7k for awesome. With ToAU, those numbers jumped up another 1-2k each, so 5-6k for normal, 7k for good, 8-10k for awesome. This is of course with a non-cannon style setup, otherwise you would have an even bigger jump. Skill chains are just an inefficient means to exp, it just took everyone a while to realize it.

Personal I Still find Skill Chains useful. Easpecially in things like Missions and Nyzul Island Assualts

Like in Nyzul, you never really know exactly what your gonna be fighting. And if you get 5 consecuive floors of slimes and flans your gonna havea tough time bring em down fast Easpecially if your party is doesnt have alot of heavy DD mages.

Yeah ther isnt a need to SC everything in nyzul, But floors where there are Enemy Leaders, of NMs, a skill Chain can drasticly increase the spike damge if its the right element.

Example: Racing Chariots in nyzul.... these suck but are weak to Ice... Gekko> Raging rush> INduration > MB Freeze2 equals LOTSA damage, and ussally a dead Chariot

Same with other mobs and with some of the Skill Chain calculators out nowadays.. ther isnt really a reason not to know a good skillchian for the mob your fighting.

I mean dang.. bring up the caculator.. putin the Jobs in your party and it gives you a list of all the skill chains you can do. i mean its not hard

I never said they weren't useful, just that they were inefficient for exp. Although my static usually didn't have a problem just meleeing down the chariots without making skill chains. Flans are annoying, but we get through them fine without any DD mages; although formless strikes definitely helps there.

Just because people don't use skill chains as much in exp isn't an excuse to not know them though; I learned the chart as a white mage helping out my parties, so a melee really has no excuse.

lol i tried and could never figure out the chart.. so i found the calculator now i WS like ive been doing it all my life

Could you post a link to the calculator you are talking about? Sounds very handy.

Thanks ^^ Thank will come in handy.
