 Believe it or not some callers are crazy like that. I work for a call center, and I've had some weirded out callers who would ask for certain things in a very irrational manner.
Example: Some people would call expecting for you to fix an issue on their laptop while they are "driving" their car home. Mind you their laptop is in the car-trunk sealed in their bag, and they get pissy because you can't fix it right then and there.
On top of that, it doesn't help when they are unable to explain the issue clearly because they do not have the laptop in front of them.
You basically have to break it down to them that nothing cannot be done without actually troubleshooting the issue. The only best thing you can do is give suggestions to cool off a user, and hope they actually do it. Some people can be pretty unrealistic.
Seriously they think we technicians are computer WHMs. We're not able to cast Raise III on your computer?!?! (>.>)
As for the recording just posted:
If someone like that ever called, and if she was an employee; I'd have her reported to our ethics group immediately, and then have her fired. :-D
I understand that a user gets lee-way to express themselves freely over the phone but eventually there is a fine border line that cannot be crossed by user or representative.
Plain and simple...its very unprofessional and unethical if that person was an employee. You can clearly see the threats this lady was making. By law, anyone threating to do something to you can be held accountable.
Now although this wasn't engaged within a company/helpdesk; instead it was a tele-marketer with a consumer, that does give more lee-way of the what you can do and shouldn't do from the caller's side.
If that phone support guy wanted to, he could take that old raunchy lady to court for threats she made against him.
As for the old lady, obviously she is not aware of the "do not call" list.
Just sign up, and its over with. You'll rarely get a call, and if you do just don't pick up. 9/10 times a telemarketer will just hang up if they see a pattern as supposed to leaving you a message.
A caller ID can help too. Most of the time, tele-marketing companies come up as: UNAVAILABLE when calling. Just ignore it. Sheesh. :-D
