Instant replay in Baseball?

I like it on home run calls, as long as they do it like College Football. Just have someone sitting up in a booth call it down so it only takes like 20 seconds.

Yay. If someone doesn't hit a home run, they shouldn't get credit for it. Like shyrra said though it'd need to be quick, baseball is slow enough as it is.

nay, its one thing that makes baseball different than just about every other sport

and here i thought it was the fact that they actually NEED to stretch from lack of activity(7th inning) was what made baseball different... joking aside...

yes...if thats the only thing making it different..then they are at a huge disadvantage..replay could turn a game around if a bad call was possibly made..should only be used for some situations, such as fair/foul balls..

humans make mistakes...video does not

Please... in fact they need to have all calls be done by computers... No more expanding strike zones for good pitchers and smaller strike zones for good hitters.

A homerun was stolen from the Diamondbacks the other day and a catch was stolen today... let the teams play and take the human element out of it... you can have a guy behind the plate still making the calls but he should make the calls that the computer is telling him to.

This I kind of agree with. Sadly it's not just baseball that is influenced by this. Pretty much all sports have some sort of human error involved. In Hockey or Football, if your team has a penalty called that shouldn't have been one, or one that was overlooked, its kind of bullshit. Same goes for Basketball and fouls. What might be a foul to one ref might not to another. Then they swallow the whistles in tight games, playoff games, etc. There is no universal ruling on anything anymore.

Unfortunately for Baseball, it's almost every pitch and every call that can screwed up by human error, and completely effect the outcome of the game. I, for one, am completely for instant replay for homerun situations only. Any of the recent botched calls could have been easily and quicky overturned with a simple booth replay.

Also, anyone that says it will slow down the game is full of it, because when these situations happen, the umps gather for three minutes and talk about it, so I think the replay might actually speed the game up slightly.

Nay, Baseball is the pinnacle of American pass time should stay as it is untainted. The human error is part of baseballs luster.

This is obscene.

For close call home runs, I like it. So long as it doesn't trickle over to otehr things. However, I think it should be expanded and used in the playoffs on close catches and calls as well. Imo, the situation is win, win as no one likes game breakin' -foul- balls.

They should just let this game die already sooo boring and everyone can't play without the juice!!!

Yay for just HR calls. We don't need anything else slowing down an already slow sport.

A. If you think "Every player is juiced!!!!1!!11one" you clearly don't watch baseball very often.

B. If you think the sport is boring, why bother commenting on instant replay? Yeah, the game isn't as fast-paced as football or soccer, but if all you care about is quick pace, I'm sure you probably change the channel the last 2:00 game time of a football game too, 'cause that usually takes about 30 minutes to play 2 minutes of clock time.

I don't see how you can use the "human error" excuse on homerun calls. Sure, it's applied to every pitch of every game played that year. But adjusting to what call and Umpire is going to give you one day, and not the next, are things that pitchers and hitters always deal with and make adjustments for. That, and they generally aren't game changing. It's a completely different story with home run calls. Which may happen once or twice a game, and can very easily change who wins and who loses. I'd rather walk away from a game knowing my team lost, rather than wondering if we should have won.

Also i dont like the arguement that "human error" has always been part of baseball. YEAH you're right because back then they didnt have the technology to make it right. Same went for Football too, til they adopted instant replay.

If you have the ability to get the call right, then do it, no sense in giving a team a "win" when they should have lost.

I think close plays in tight games should be allowed for review.

See.. I tend to say "no" to anything but home runs... but the play in the 13th(12th?) inning in the 163rd game, the one game playoff between San Diego and Colorado last year makes me think otherwise, when they called Tulowitski safe, but upon review he was out by a good 2-3 inches. San Diego's playoff hopes were smashed on that play, and that makes me think maybe on game-breaking plays they should consider review. I dunno really D:

maybe they should do it like football and allow for coaches to call like 2 challenges per team per game. But i dont know if that would be that effective or not but truthfully i think that all strikes and balls should be called by machine.
