Interesting Look at the Media's Katrina coverage...

If I could find different reports describing the same event I would be tempted to believe it.

Now here's what i don't understand.

If you could find a different report describing that particular event you'd be tempted to believe it but are willing to almost immediately disregard most of the other stories provided to you in this thread that show multiple accounts of events that occured during this whole thing simply based on the "official" reports and numbers i.e. the party line.

/confused.

I believe it's because of the magnitude of the crime commited, if it was true you'd expect investigations, followups, trials. Instead all we get is, hype, hype, hype, then silence. Then months later statistics that it didn't even happen.

Tragedy sells, it's painfully obvious. Sometimes the truth is just too boring to report.

The reason I want other articles of the same event is because it is very easy to make copies and post them on the internet. If you ever watched Ghost in the Shell- Stand Alone Complex, this is one of the main concepts delt with. There are so many copies that you can't even find the origonal, if it even existed. If this event actually happened, there should have been multiple reports and follow ups written on it. Instead, all we have is one article written which has been copied everywhere with no follow ups.

Ok great you answered the first part of my question and that i dig but what i was driving at is on the occasion it seems as though once you've satisfied your curiosity with information you personally dug up based on whatever criteria you do for whatever research you undertake for the sake of the boards your view tends to polarize based solely on those facts, this is a personal observation if i'm off base i sincerely appologize.

The problem is objectivity when discussing issues of this nature. In this instance, i'm talking about multiple points in this thread, it comes off as though you have already made up your mind based solely on the information you've hounded up yourself. Lack of objectivity, i.e. possibly entertaining the notion that people do slip through the cracks in events like this and most of the information you run across is skewed on either end, results in lack of flexibility. Lack of flexibility leads to innumerable other issues during discourse.

My point was simple:

I don't think the people quoted in the articles are liers.

I would question the validty of those articles.
The entirety, mind you, based on a couple "facts" you read somewhere else were false. Don't take it personally, no one in this thread knows for certain what happened as they were not there, that's perfectly ok.

What about those other different reports that you so easily discounted? It just comes off hypocritical in the conversational sense regardless of the article that this statement is specificly made about.

Well, he hasn't posted different reports on it though. Such as the bridge incident: There is one article that was written on it right during the Katrina event, and it was reposted 10,000 times. To validate that event I would like to see some different articles that described the same event from another source or follow up articles describing what happened later in relation to that story. For example, anytime police kill someone their is always a court trial and lawsuit that follows. For something this interesting, I would expect it to have been in the media if it happened.

Heck, I would have believed you on the 9/11 conspiracies if all I could find was a single source with a single report saying it was actually a plane. However, in that event we have many different stories from different groups discribing the same event supported by scientific research from third parties.

Right now we have a few articles describing sniper events based largely on stories and 2nd hand information right in the middle of the crisis vs an article months after the event which had time to track down and check the validity of the claims and sources to determine what really happened. Of course we won't hear anything from the media about possible mistakes in the past because that doesn't get good ratings.

If that's all that exists on that particular incedent how is that Dante's fault and what proof do you have to discredit it?

All of which don't neccessarily add up, this is the crux of my interjection into this thread. You people with all your articles and sources fail to conceed that the truth is always between the headlines and in most cases refuse to admit that all accounts are inaccurate for one reason or the other. Instead you pick your representatives in the form of factoids and pray to the altar of truth built in all it's shinning glory on a msg board...

So just because it wasen't tracked down and documented it couldn't possibly be true? Of course you wont here anything about possible mistakes being made from the media or the government which show them to be more foulable or lax in pursuit of injustice, that's on the pursuer of truth or not on anyone at all as all relevant information or imperical proof is lost at this point. I'm sure there were a few looters who got arrested, in fact i'm sure there was, i'm sure there was just as many who they didn't file paperwork for or slipped between the cracks while the authorities were trying to figure out how to handle the situation, these things happen. It's quite possible someone was sniping, it's quite possible someone was using a gun to signal for help, it's quite possible someone was shooting beer cans on his roof. Seeing as how no one involved in this thread was there i find it incredulous that you have the unmitigated gall to sit and argue about the truth of the events that did or did not occur having no firsthand experience with it yourselves.

I had family in New Orleans when the hurricane hit. After the incident they stayed with us for a week. So while I have no first hand, I do have second hand information. Although, none of that matters because even if any of us had been there, we likely wouldn't have been present for it.

If that's all that exists on that particular incedent how is that Dante's fault and what proof do you have to discredit it?
Right now, we have a PM article that appears to have done more research into the incident than the reporter who wrote the story about the sniper could have. PM has no agenda nor anything to gain by disagreeing with the media.

My point still stands, if there were so many snipers, some would have been arrested. All wouldn't have slipt through the cracks, but lets assume they did. The article says police killed 5 men on a bridge. If that were true, we would be hearing about the lawsuits against the city by the dead men's families. Those families aren't going to just slip through the legal cracks, rather they would be crawling their way out. Look how much the media jumped on that one man beaten by New Orleans police. Police actually killing people would garner far more attention (regardless of the mens' innocents or actual guilt). I would also expect the name's of those killed by the police to be somewhere in the news.

Only thing i ever heard about that were unconfirmed reports that the cops had opened fire on some contractors. However my point still stands:

Andre Gide:

Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it.
