So I was trying to get ToD for a NM, when someone MT'd the following

command exec IS.txt

does anyone know what that is? I don't want to name names or anything until I know what it is, exactly.

They are using windower macros. Kill the heretic for having more than 6 commands in a macro!

The person that said that probably wanted to type /con exec IS.txt

Now go report them like a good player should.

what would that do?

How do you use those extra macro lines?

That would make BLM muuuuuch more fun, and by fun I meen less fun....so yea n/m I'm fine w/my 6 liners

Execute a set of commands within a text file that sends commands back to the client.
ie. /equip Main "X", /p "I have X TP", /recast "Stone" or whatever.

The biggest advantage that such commands afford is being able to swap out your entire wardrobe in one macro.

As to the one you overheard, I'm thinking that would depend on what exactly they had stored under the file name "IS.txt."

To what you said about switching out your whole equipment. I just use 2 macros. To be lazy enough to not click one button that cost not even a sec. to push, is sever lazyness and they should be shot.

It's not laziness, its efficiency. :)

I must concede that these macros are quite helpful. Even while using them on BLM, I need to press two to cast a spell, and three under 50% MP.

My macros would be a mess if I didn't have this function,

I mean that people make a 7 line macro instead of just hitting alt or ctrl + a number...the time it takes to make the 7 liner out of game > time it takes to hit alt or ctrl + 2 no. ....

I've never heard of these types of macros before. As useful as they would be, i'm not really sure that I would end up using them because that would give me an advantage over other players, allowing me to have the most gear available to "swap in" for a particular spell which would enhance it.

I'd love to use something like this for my RDM because it would really help having more slots to equip every piece of gear available with a stat that would enhance the spell (I'm pretty sure I could easily swap in at least 7 items for INT, and 7 items for MND based spells), but then again that would be unfair to players who don't have that opportunity... so I think for now, i'll probably stick to my "5 lines" available in my macro (6 including the spell) because I'm not keen on having to have 2 macros for each spell (gear macro + spell macro)

This doesn't make any sense at all.

....blazn?

Where I could see it coming in handy is in terms of sheer space-saving. As a Bst, I literally have gear swaps in every macroed /ja I use, as well as two additional pure gear swaps, just to get swapped between fight gear to charm gear to WS gear and back. I'd love to be able to .txt my gear swaps.

I can only imagine what it must be like for a mage(most specifically Rdm) who has:

1) Elemental set
2) Enfeebling set
3) Cure set
4) +Hmp set

to swap between.

Using ~1.5 macros(as not all sets would require full swaps, while I imagine some others would) for each of those would turn into 6/10 macros on a palette. In laggy areas, you may or may not be able to swap palettes quick enough to toggle between gear swaps and casting sets efficiently.

Though I'll be the first to admit, I've always been a more macro-oriented player than many.

Could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure what people are saying that instead of hitting a regular macro available without the use of additional programs, you have 6 lines in which to use. For mages, you would use one line for your spell, with the remaining 5 to equip various pieces of gear which will enhance that spell.

What's being discussed above, is a way to use a macro, but instead of being limited to only 6 lines, you can have more than this allowing you to equip every piece of gear you want + your spell all in one macro.

Why not just make 2 separate macros is what I'm getting at. So lazy...

What you're missing is that not even two macros could accomplish what that .txt file is doing. It could literally swap out all 16 pieces of gear if you wanted it to.

Furthermore, two macros would be great provided you've only got two sets of gear to deal with. In the later levels, however, mages(and melee as well to a lesser degree) have multiple(as in more than two pieces of gear per slot) to swap around in order to maximize their efficiency. Unfortunately, that eats up a LOT of macro space.

Its laziness to a degree, but not everyone is capable of being able to cast a spell such as "stun" as quick as needed, while still being able to hit 2 macros to ensure you have all the gear. If you've fought some mobs, i'm sure you know that they have moves that require a stun to be casted, which even though I have never played a job yet that has used this, I know from experience as being the tank that the spell HAS to be cast immediately in order to prevent the mob's move.

Now i'm assuming that to successfully land the spell (I could be wrong and maybe "stun" will land without additional gear, never looked into this) you need to equip more than 5 pieces of equipment.... do you really want to have to hit "Macro A - Equip Stun Gear" + "Macro B - Cast Stun" ? I would feel a lot more comfortable hitting one macro, to make sure that i'm not too slow in getting the spell cast. And especially if you're in a laggy area, I know that often I have to hit a macro more than once just to get it off period, so you could be looking at having to hit those macros more than once, and by the time you actually cast the spell, its too late.

Again, maybe "stun" isn't a good example because you might not need specific gear to make this land (have yet to take DRK or BLM far enough to use this and have never really asked anyone else about it) but i'm pretty sure you understand what i'm saying.

Being able to use one macro to get ALL the gear you need to cast the spell, and cast the spell on top of it... makes you perform your task more efficiently and promptly. I would rather get that spell casted faster , so that I can move onto another spell. So I don't really think its laziness unless you happen to have a job where you're not required to be casting all throughout the battle and you can sit there doing nothing but hitting 2 macros couple of minutes.

But again, that gives you more of an advantage over players that don't have that program available, so that's why i'm hesitant to use it. I'd love to be able to buy more gear to be able to swap in, using only one macro... but seems a bit of a cheat to me >_<

Kirin is a good example:

Stun minus full elemental gear = resisted most times.
Stun with full elemental gear = Unresisted less than before (but it still gets resisted out of the ass)

Bear in mind I have 5 pieces of Elemental gear, plus other nuking gear which helps the potency of stun (easily alowing for 1 second duration stuns and more) but normally I wouldn't be able to cast the spell and equip all the gear I'd need to make carrying all the elemental gear I have around with me worth while.

I don't care about my own macros giving me an advantage over others, since I don't compete with others whilst using my macros. When soloing, who is that giving me an advantage over, theres no one around. When in Dynamis and other team events, it's helping to strengthen my ability to work within the team, which ultimately benefits everyone.

Plus, Black mage is seriously gimped if you use standard macros :) I've said it many times, and I'd stay true to my words, I will quit if I can no longer play Black Mage with Windower macros.

Stun is lightning-based Dark Magic. >.>

Well I seem to get less resists whenever I put elemental magic gear on, plus it lasts about half a second to a second longer sometimes, so meh.
