My friend is retiring from FFXI. He started the job as a WAR, which is now lvl 75.

He wants to retire his character by d'leveling his WAR from 75 to 1. Then he will give away all his gear as his level decreases. I asked him why and he said "So im not tempted to come back and rejoin like alot of people."

Is this as freaking nuts as it sounds? How long would this take? Is it even possible? He wants me to follow him around, raising him as he dies, weakened or not. He plans on fighting somewhere like Xarcabard where the skeles will blood aggro each time he is raised.

Would you say this is completely nuts, a waste of time and pointless or do you think its a good way to retire a character without feeling the pressure to come back to the game?

Not completely possible. You stop losing exp at level 4 I think it was. So he could get down that low. It is an interesting way to go out, though. Especially if he chooses fun, creative ways to die. XD

Not sure about being creative. He wants to use up his entire stash of seals, so I guess that will be fun for anyone involved. He has a bunch of spare gear he wants to give away, so we are going through the different leveling areas. (Valkrum, Qufim, Kazham etc.) to give it away depending on level.

I dont think being level 4 will really make him come back though lol.

He also wants to keep track of how many of each type of Kindred beastmen he slays.

Hes betting that Quadav will be on the top of his list, but I say Orc. Yags dont show up in very many other areas.

I would have, but with all the seals he has, we are going to be running through Ghelsheba and Palborough mines alot.

He asked our LS who needed what, and almost nothing we needed was in Giddeus.

I can't think of where he would be fighting goblins unless he wanted to help some level in the dunes before he leaves.

its about the most retarded idea. itd take quite awhile to continue to kill yourself over and over to lose that much xp.

complete waste of time.

Well, I aws thinking of doing the same when I quit. Delvl all of my jobs to lvl 3.

I think it would be so much work that if having a lvl 4 character didn't make him stay away, the annoyance of the task sure as hell would. >.>

Ehhh...well...thats kind of up in the air.

This is the type of guy who will start a party, then an hour later say "Oh hang on, I know what would make this party better."

Then run to the nearest town to change his job and equipment, then run all the way back. Sure enough he was right, but ill be damned if it didnt take him forever to run from Valkrum to Bastok then back.

And this is good because....???

because assuming the party lasted for at least another hour, his change usually boosted our kill rate andr whatnot, enough to make up for the slight downtime during his absence and also increasing hourly exp.

Set HP at an outpost that has aggro mobs near it and go AFK for about a month.

Tssk tssk, no need to belittle the way a player wants to depart from the game. He spent years redundantly lvl’ing up… why not spent some time lvl’ing down? Sounds like it’s just his idea of fun. I bet he just wants something a tad more memorable than a deletion. I’m not going to be the one to judge how someone wants to depart from their electronical world.

Well i'm not trying to "belittle" anyone, but in the post he did ask if this was completely nuts, and yes, it is. Why dont you just delete your charecter?

That is interesting. Considering an 8% xp loss per death, that means you have to die 12.5 times before losing a level.

L75 - L4 = 71 levels to lose.

Let's say 70 if he doesn't have a huge xp buffer at L75.

70 levels * 12.5 deaths / level = 875 deaths

If he's afk, then it takes one hour before being 'ported back to his HP, so we're talking 875 hours. I'm not counting the time it takes for a mob to shave off all the HPs.

875 hours / 24 hours per day = 36.45 days of afk time.

...I hope he runs a Windower, 'cause otherwise that's a long time to let a computer run FFXI in full-screen mode.

you can delevel to level 3 :P not 4.. at least that's what I remember.. I'm sure I've died at level 4 (after just dinging) and deleveled to 3 and then stopped losing exp

He should try and MPK RMT as many times as possible, just camp them all day in places where horrid NM's hang out like Guiver and such. Try to go out in a blaze of MPKing glory until he gets banned for good lol.

When the time comes for me to go I'll lvl BST before hand and MPK as much RMT till the GM's catch me and put me to sleep. for good lol
