Interesting view on religion

That was about the funniest thing I think I have ever read. I was hoping this wouldn't be a serious topic...

Cracked me up and reminded me of a guy I used to work with. He used to love to ask "Why do people always draw Adam and Eve with bellybuttons? They didn't have them, obviously. They didn't need them!"

cool

Um, Mr. xv… are you... what… is your religion?

I am a spiritual independent.

Well put, I think.

Im interseted to see how this is not a serious topic. Sure this can turn into a big debate but the fact is.....

Rabbi Eliazar smiles at the Gentile, stands up, lifts himself up onto one foot, and says, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. The rest is commentary. Now go study.”

It can be a serious topic. I myself believe in god but not in the Church itself. I didnt want to offend anyone so I simply posted the url. You are welcome to discuss it as you wish. I agree in hte majority of the stuff said in the article and I would like to hear someone who is religious what they thought about it.

I was nervous about reading the one called "Fags," but I was laughing my head off by the end. My favorite part, the photo cutline that said "Five seconds after this photo was taken, the queers in gold had stripped the helpless man naked, greased him up and baked him in their insidious gay ovens."

Speaking of, I need to get food out of my own insidious gay oven.

religion is a very opinionated subject and some carry their religious opinions too far. as far as church goes, me personally, dont think a church is necessary for a belief. god can be worshiped from anywhere, church is just a place that an organized worship is placed.
i didnt spend the time to read the page, so i appologize in advance if im repeating something.
couple other key points that i would like to add is that christmas was set for dec 25(birth of christ) however, there is no record of christ being born on that day. how was it determined that he was born on dec 25.....it wasnt. it was a randomly set date according to what historians believed the birthday to be. aslo the adam and even thing...they were believed to be the first humans on the planet. however, at the time they were created, there were no human existance. in actuality, adam and eve could have been dinosaurs or any other form of living. please correct me if im wrong. im not sure. im not a huge bible reader, so i dont know the story well.
also as a P.S. the bible is known as the greatest STORY told. whos to say any of it is real.
p.s.s dont get anything i put down wrong, i do have a christian religion so im not claiming that god isnt real, however, i do look at the "what if" side of the story

in all actuallity, that is what it is. most of it is a story if not all of it

hehe.. the Bible is a fictional book but one to be viewed as moral guidance. Nothing more, as I see it. It's got some good moral values (though some things are a bit... odd) and is actually pretty interesting to read. It's good to read also to learn about the history of our world. (not saying that all the stuff is fact but that it is interesting to see how the people that wrote the story viewed things and analyzing the wording of the bible) anyways.. religion is just too controversy at times.

Hmmm suprised to see much of a response at all regarding religion...
Well due to things i've seen and done in the 27yrs of my life I am a strong Christian although you wouldn't know it much to see me or hear me talk.

Actually i agree with most of what was said so far...
I also believe you don't need to attend church regularly in order to worship God/Christ. Church is in your heart not on earth, however, church is organized worship(as said in earlier posts) which is something like practice... the more you practice being good the better you'll be (in theory of course). Well i think it's like this... it is very east to backslide and slip away from God/Christ and church makes that gap easier to avoid.

Now for my one hang up about earlier posts...

The bible has over 10,000 documents confirming the times/events that happened, and the New Testament isn't even a book, it's letters collected from the apostles sent to the cities they traveled to.

Now obviously i haven't seen or read any of these 10k documents supporting it, but i tend to believe those numbers over , oh say, .... there were less than 100 documents supported the stories of Julius Caesar (fun fact for the day) Yet we all believe this

lol now please excuse me, i don't intend to recruit any christians today , just wanted to share my knowledge on the issue. Either way tho, i like the ideas and principles that the bible is based on..... it's tough to deny the simplicity of it all, and think of what a better world we would live in if we all believed and acted accordingly with Christian beliefs :D

I picture a world without Colbwa.....

WWSD? What would Sartre say?

Most likely something absurd.....buwahahahahaha!!!!!!!

......i should stop making really bad atheist-existential jokes.

I'm willing to bet you never tried to read "Numbers"

Seriously though, I don't know all that much about religions other than Christianity. But I know quite a bit about Christianity. Here are some random facts.

Jesus' Birth was set around the time of December to coincide with pagen winter Festivals. As long as you didn't change things to much, monotheism would be easier to push on the masses.

His rebirth was in the spring to coincide with The Festival of Fertility. (if you always wondered what rabbits have to do with Easter, this is your answer.) Spring, Rabbits Fertility, new life, rising from the dead.... yeah, all that.

The "King James Version" of the Bible has been edited as recently as the 19th Century. Many things have been changed over time. For example, 5 entire books have been removed from the old testiment.

Christianity creates more revenue every year than any other tax exempt organization. If we only taxed the property that churches stood on, it would create enough revenue to end world hunger.

More people have died in the name of Father/son/holy ghost than for any other reason ever.

It's tough living in "The Bible Belt" and being an Empirical Agnostic Humanist.

In case anyone is wondering what that is....
They believe that God may exist, but that little or nothing can be known about him/her/it/them. Further, they do not really consider the question to be particularly important. They have derived their moral and behavioral codes from secular considerations. Their ethical behavior would not be altered if a deity were proven to exist.

so yeah, Do unto others. Sounds like a good plan.

So it is a known fact now that the bible is purely fictional? :?:

MY statement is purly opinional but when someone can PROVE all that stuff really happened I'll believe it. It's just like anything that happed before our existence. No one knows for sure they just have beliefs.
