Just how reliant are you on the Internet?

Nearly half of the women questioned by Harris Interactive said they'd be willing to forgo sex for two weeks, rather than give up their Internet access, according to a study released Monday by Intel, which commissioned the survey.
Sex v. Internet(Credit: CNET Networks)

While 46 percent of the women surveyed were willing to engage in abstinence verses losing their Internet, only 30 percent of the men surveyed were willing to do likewise.

The U.S. survey, which queried 2,119 adults last month, found that the gap grew even wider for both men and woman who were 18 to 34 years old. For woman, the percentage of those willing to skip the sheets in favor of the Web rose to 49 percent, while it climbed to 39 percent for men.

And for women 35 to 44 years old, the figure jumped to 52 percent.

These figures were just some of the tidbits that came out of the Intel's broader commissioned study on Americans' reliance on the Internet in today's economy.

Though not as sexy but equally interesting, the survey also found that 87 percent of respondents said the Internet saves them money.

Specifically, 84 percent of those surveyed found the Internet saved them money by comparing prices online and searching out the best deals, while 65 percent said it aided them in finding coupons, discounts, and special promotions.

And TV, which has been losing its share of eyeball time to the Internet over the years, found that the majority of adults would be willing to go two weeks of watching TV, verses losing one week on the Internet.

Of course when it comes to TV, perhaps size matters, at least according to a different survey earlier this year of Britons conducted by electronics retailer Comet. Almost half of the men polled said they would give up sex for six months in return for a 50-inch plasma TV, according to Reuters. That compared with just over a third of women who were willing to make the same sacrifice for the big-screen television.

I thought that this was some interesting findings. I was wondering what everyone thought about this. If you had to choose would you give up sex or internet access for two weeks? Personally I would give up internet access for two weeks. >.>

That is absurd. That 46% of women need to eithre get a better vibrator or a better man, thats stupid. Anyone that would give up sex for the internet either has a problem, isn't getting very good sex or isn't getting any at all.

I can't do much else but shake my head at this, lol.

Exactly. I feel bad to find out that 46% of women are having some bad sex. How depressing for them. lol Because oh hell yeah I'd be giving up the internet.

Or perhaps lacks sex drive, has no interest etc..

Meh. As much time elapses between some of my sexual encounters, I could do two weeks standing on my head. That's nothing. I'm like a sexual camel... one hump will last a long time.

If I had to choose I'd give my wrist a 2 week break.

Having both regularly, I'd keep the sex and ditch the net.

It's just like going on vacation. I don't bring my laptop. Who needs it? IT'S A FUCKING VACATION! You know, a getaway from the norm. Only thing I plan on taking with me on vacation besides the staples of travel (no, your lame ass computer isn't one of them), and my sparkling personality, is sex.

I never take my laptop with me on a trip and it's a wonderful thing. As reliant on the Internet as people think they are, once they are without it for a week or two, they'll realize that "reliance" is really mostly just laziness...Because it exists. Make it not exist for a while and it's quite refreshing. You know what else is refreshing? Sex.

With my day to day routine, I need my internet fix. I sit at a desk at work for 9-10 hours a day, 5 days a week. No internet for 2 weeks and I'm ready to go insane in this place. The sex can wait, but no internet, yeah, no way I can finish my work week without atleast some forum viewing.

Exactly.

However, would giving up using a vibrator being considered giving up sex? I'd like to say no.

If that was the case - keep the internet and your vibrator for two weeks, and give up sex, I'd have to choose the former in comparison if I was with any of my ex boyfriends still :dur:

Don't they do that already? For much longer amounts of time?

I think it's the point of "given the opportunity". It doesn't take into consideration women who just can't get laid so they may as well use the internet.

Are you saying they polled shy, personality-void, fugly women? XD

If the results were that they would rather have internet? Yes. Either that or they need to get rid of the boyfriends that can't please them.

I never understood the point of having a computer in the kitchen. Seems like it would get in the way.

See Sig.

Sexist butthead, I hope you're stuck with a 6 toed mammoth of a wife.

Like most surveys of this nature, I'm sure there is some lack of real objectivity skewing the results. The numbers certainly make it seem that way. Or the numbers make it seem generally sad.

Stuff like this only gets better every hundredth time the same people regurgitate it.
