I have been having internet issues as well. I d/c twice during an ENM fight. (oh man was my party pissed) but we ended up winning. It was just the Promyvion-Dem boss, so it wasnt too bad.
But my connection has been pretty crappy lately. Only on FFXI too. My other internet applications work just fine.
Maybe you should check your ports. My connection had to be the worst in history for like the first year and a half of playing. I would get d/c'd about 3 times every hour, sometimes it would be worse >.<
