Countrymen is one thing. Good is another.
Countrymen became the enemy.
The war ended with countrymen (in this case the enemy) in defeat.
The whole world is not the U.S.
War is war between any two or more different countries.
War is civil war when the battles are fought between similar countrymen fighting for different things.
Either way, war is just the worst case scenario of a disagreement.
If the Iraqis decide to fight over how things are run (very likely), then they will do so.
No amount of hand-holding will prevent it...It won't be prevented if we are there for 50 years.
The ideals that these people are fighting for are ages old, and part of their fabric as a people. Sure, many are up for the change...But many are not.
I think our troops should stay, giving a deadline for departure. This way the Iraqis who wish to maintain their new found establishment will have a chance to prepare for the hand-off.
It's just my opinion, but we cannot stay there forever. We need to leave. There is nothing wrong with phasing out.
There will be fighting with or without us. The stronger of the ideals, according to the Iraqi people, will come out on top in the end. Ultimately, after we do hand the country completely back to them, that's for them to decide.
