irs taxing gil?

.........................................................................................................................................................

Never.

Gonna.

Happen.

Reason?

If killing an ogre constitutes a taxable event i'm fucking out. Lots of people are. Companies lose. Multiples of billions are lost in the software and hardware industries. Outsourcing goes up, imports go up. GNP goes down.

Think about it for a minute. Hax would constitute federal offense by association whereas property is gained. <.< yea fucking right.

Theses people have books to sell and careers to make, nothing more to it than that. Your average politician barely knows how to turn on a computer let alone understand tax code, there's people for that sort of thing *icky* :P

Neo = pure unadulterated win.

That is all.

I gotta agree with that.

On topic.

If our gilz are taxed..

Do those of us with lower incomes get some kind of return at the end of the fiscal year? Mmm. Gil returns. Remember to send your apps off as soon as January rolls around. You'll get your 1k back by april. The sooner you do that, the sooner you can buy that bronze axe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't SE own all of the gil and the people who buy and sell it online are doing it illegally? Also, they would have to have some sort of proof that you were using your in game money as a source of real life income.

I've seen these kind of articles quite a few times but I just don't see them having the ability to do this in games like FFXI. Maybe in games like Second Life.

No taxation without representation.

Vote Westyle as US congressman for Vana'diel

If you buy gil and use that gil to buy an item that you then resell for more real money than was used to buy the gil for the item would you pay taxes on the profits? Also should you use that gil to buy and item that has to be sold for a loss in real money does that loss then constitute a tax deductible loss? >.>

People who spend the majority of their time in a cyber-world environment should get together and lobby for the creation of a "cyber-state". Geographical lines for determining residency locale are outdated! Welcome to the 21st century. Welcome to Cyber-State.

Can't do it. Claim is already staked out on content/land/property, whatevery you want to call it by the companies and developers who create it. Intellectual property laws > newly emerging trends to squeeze more out of joe taxpayer on his recreation time.

About that, you are wrong. It's a common misconception, but there is a big difference between what is against the rules in the MMORPG itself, and what is actually against the rules of your government.

Try as the major MMO companies might, they've yet to really set down truly "stickable" legal arguments (and follow through with actual prosecutorial precedent) as to the legality of RMT-type activity.

It's against Playonline's rules to buy/sell gil, and they reserve the right to ban you for it. That doesn't mean it's against the LAW. The best legal argument that Playonline, Sony, Blizzard etc. have been able to make thus far is that everything located on their servers is their intellectual rights ... but such a scenario is seen as vague and stretched in legal terms ... particularly when most people that sell virtual currency stress the idea that they're billing you for their TIME in acquiring the fake money, and thereby granting you access to it.

In fact, if the IRS could prove that you were using virtual currency as a source of actual income, they could technically do this.

As most people don't, however, this is one idiotic Senator's barely-understood, DOA proposal ... something coming from a stodgy old suit who knows as much about the difference between an MMORPG and a stick of RAM as he does about the genetic code of a giant ground sloth. He has no idea about how impractically ludicrous this is ... he knows vagueries that he's heard about people selling virtual currency. Thus, he rushes out legislation that will never pass.

Lol that would be funny as shit, a LS getting hammered for IRS fraud for not reporting killing king behemoth. But who knows, not like the goverment even begins to understand how the internet works, you want to see how sad it is look at the speeches senators made concerning shooting down the freenet bills. If you dont know the telecomunication companies want to prioritize your acess to a website based on how much the site pays. IE raping through the pants without the curtesy of lube or a reach around the lil websites out there. Like this one.
