Is it bad to PL myself?

Haven't posted on here much, but here goes.

So, a few years back (pre-CoP) I played back on Hades server and had a 75 mnk (Fribaud) I played all the time, on the same account, I played on this server with a 43 whm (Fribaud) along with some RL friends who also played at the time (Twille,Dewman,Pages - to anyone that remembers)

After a 2.5 year hiatus, started again with some RL friends here with this new character, have been having fun mostly just goofing off, but am trying to get semi-serious about having a higher level character (50 ish) to do the CoP storyline and things I never did the first time around, on a class I never tried before (RNG).

Anyways, I transfered my mnk over to this server to be my farming mule (named Rockband now) and still have the whm here, so for the low levels that I have always just plain hated (10-20) I've been PLing myself with the whm. A couple times I've actually tended to continue that up until 30 (when soloing in Qufim drops off).

What I'm running into is that those early levels when I originally played were where I found all the friends I kept for most of the game, and the social circles and LS's that I ended up belonging to later. The parties I've been involved in nobody really talks or has much to say if they do.

Should I stop powerleveling myself through the crappy low-levels and just play as normal? I'd rather grow friendships throughout then "get there fast".

Also, If anyones got a fun social LS (I have one now but I'm not real included cause I'm not high level yet) I would love to have one and make friends.

Honestly you answered your own question with that sentence.

Almost everyone I've met and become friends with I've partied multiple times with, the slow way,
cool peoples such as Audino, Osse & Fellina, and Rappa.
Eventually one of those cool peoples will invite you into a linkshell that'll you'll feel more at home... such is the FFXI community life.
 
Don't bring this up.

No one is going to fault you for doing that, it's up to what you want to do.

However if you post it here you'll get a lot of animosity from both sides of the argument, and probably start a flame.

That said, this is my only post in this thread. I really don't think it matters anyway, but you certainly would make a lot more friends exping up the ladder.

There is no shame in power leveling yourself. Your not hurting anyone so why not just do it and get through all the crap levels at the beginning. Its a game and if that is how you wish to spend your time then have fun and enjoy it.
 
Sup guitarhero! havent seen you in a long time! And i dont think theres any shame in it, but what Tymon said is right, you wanna make some good friends, pt it up the normal way, hell if i have any jobs in ur lvl range ill pt it up with you ^_^
 
Most people could care less. It's when you have a PL pl'ing an entire party post-jungle that irritates me a little bit.
 
PL yourself, find your friends when you start getting to jungles and up where mistakes are a life and death matter. I've met some good friends at 10, but I've also met great people at 50. If you're a friendly person it won't matter what level you start crowd-surfing, you'll make plenty of new acquaintances.

Good people like to be around other good people. The world spins 'round.
 
Only reason I'm saying PLing is bad (and I've done it in groups before so there are other people there) is that because I'm working 2 controllers it's extremely hard to talk to other party members while doing it so I'll never meet anyone or be able to joke around with the party. Post 30- when I can't do that anymore, parties tend to last much longer, do more and are filled with mostly competent players; which I feel I would get me that social interaction.

Cause back when I was new, everybody was new. Heck I didn't know what the AH was until I was level 10. And that's why new friends were so important. We all leveled together made our own linkshell etc. But now, the low levels are so spread anyway it'd be hard to meet more than the 10~20 people in the same level range aye?

At least until this new level sync update thing. Then you never know who you'd meet.

Play this game for your own pleasure, not for the criticizm of everyone else.

After my 4th 75, i PL'd myself tonnes, and never once regretted it.

Every time I level a new job from 10-50 I meet a bunch of new friends.

PLing is fine in my personal opinion.
 
I don't think it will matter. There are some very social people in the low 'dreaded' levels. There are also some parties where noone says a word. You just need to figure out what you're more concerned with-- making friends or gaining levels. As for PLing yourself, that's more than fine and has become a more common practice. Most parties appreciate a PL, so you could even consider bringing your PL along with you to the parties (depending on what you are leveling, or at least for raises). Or do a combination of seeking while PLing yourself so you can also maximize your time. I know first hand how challenging it can be to leave the game for a while and come back to the majority of your buddies having quit.

It's not a crime to PL oneself... but naming yourself Guitarhero and Rockband should be. :nyam:

That was hilarious btw! I'm sure Neo has it, he posted it in his blog thingie. Come to think of it i'm quite sure i have it too, i wouldn't miss taking a ss of that. ;)
