Is it possible to succeed anymore?

Saying that all you need to do is pump out a single item of any craft to get the weapon isn't smart at all. Try sending a /tell to Dracoden asking how much it costed him to get gs up to 100. You'd probably need to spend about 80% of that number to get to lvl90+2gp+3support, to be at the minimun level to try to make a manteel. Then estimate 1/100 hq rate, 1/20 break rate, off items that either drop from vrtra, a mob that isn't regularly killed (I think? and even if it was it takes days to repop, and most linkshells seem to keep materials for their members) or a 8million gil desynth with under 50% success rate.

I always assumed I would need time to do this. If its only a difference of a few weeks, I think Ill survive.

My Mercenary Linkshell brings in about 12 mill every week or so, so once thats divided up, I have about 3-4 mill for myself each week. Not alot in the big scheme of things but certainly any little bit helps.

God no. Of course you can't pump your tank with only one source. Hence where I put that you will also be getting other means of gil. I was just putting that if you were to somehow come by a miracle, and soully use Shei'hk Manteel, then it would take around 2 and a half monthes. Saying that you only use this twice, there are other means of other crafts you could use, like Hauby, or hunting NM's, or again, attaining high level items through BCNMs, ENMs, ect. And putting them on the open market.

Time is an understatement, if you could make 30million gil a month solely for the purpose of buying coins with would take you nearly two years to have enough gil. And ontop of all that you would need a linkshell capabable of farming out rare/ex items in rarely explored areas of Dynamis-Beucedine and Dynamis-Xarcabard.

Couldn't it be possible to get smithing, and what not, to 100 (and level other necesarry crafts), and just craft equips like Hauby and what not for gil? I also know that some of KA's drops are worth alot of gil, and even when split, it's still worth it.

And, 30 mil a month would leave you with 500,000,000 gil in 16 2/3 monthes. That's just for the coins too. Isn't it even more gil to like, move on and stuff to the sword?

Well, I already have Goldsmithing at 97. My LS is brining in 12 mil a week and I currently hold 137 mil from saving and farming. My ls also has a variety of different craft experts. I could easily get them to synth things for me for a flat fee (hence the mercenary shell) and material costs. So im not really restricted by which craft is recommended. I have access to everything except a highly leveled cooker.

Now its a good start, and I have the means to finance the crafting, so it seems that it is only time that is an issue here.

Leveling smithing to 100 could easily cost 100million+ and take months and months, and it wouldn't be fast money, even if you made 600million gil worth of items it could take years for it all to sell. Haubergeons were a loss or break even synth last I heard, and commissions rarely go over like 100k to synth items.

My coins seem to sell for 35,000g easily, and you would need 17900 coins I think to upgrade a weapon, that translates to 626.5million gil, and even on the lowent (30k) it's 537million, so the true price for all the coins is somehwere between 537-626.5million, probably closer to the latter number.

I don't think anything else required costs over 1% of the coins, so we can ignore that.

The fact that so few people have the weapons years after the start of dynamis is evidence that they weren't meant to be obtainable by the average person, it takes an entire linkshell about a year or more to be able to create enough currency for a weapon.

I'm intriqued as to why this "mercenary shell" of yours will work for you. What do you provide them that will make them pay you outright, no questions asked? :rtfm:

If you don't mind, what is your ingame name?

lol, I wont reveal that just yet. Ill just say im not on this server. Im an admin for a site that is a "multi-server" site. Kinda like a fusion of Alla and QCDN, but for all servers.

Ah, allow me to explain this.

Mercenary Linkshell, we help people for money. The money is equally distributed to those involved and roughly 30% goes to me. Why? Because I provide my ENTIRE shell (20+ members) with updated equipment, weapons and items. Think of it as a Tax if you will. You pay this to me when you get paid. I provide you with anything you need when you need it.

My members are paid to do what they do. What do they do? Whatever they get paid to do lol.

I give them X amount of gil, tell them to go camp NM#4 and they get to keep 40% of the profit if we are selling the item.

I give them X amount of gil to run shipments of an item selling cheap in bastok to sandy where is may be selling higher. They get paid travel expenses and get 30-40% of the item profit.

The price I pay them depends on which NM I want camped. The better the drop, the higher I pay them to camp. At one point I paid a flat fee of 300k for someone to camp lizzy while I was in a dynamis. They got the drop, it sold, and I gave him his 300k plus 40% of the profit.

Then there are the outside clients. Those who pay for us to help in missions and quests. We made a killing off the people who wanted to get the subjob items again for the Aht Urhgan ferry.

This is your basic construction of a Mercenary Linkshell:

1) Gather together at least 10 members you trust with your life and who you KNOW would never rip you off. This is vital.

2) Have a "startup" fund. About 1 mill is a good startup amount.

3) Shout about your LS service and tell them the price you will charge for whatever they need. (Helped a group of people do the Rank 5 magicite mission and made 700k.)

4) Give something to your members to show your a good leader. Keep their equipment updated, get them items they need, etc. Help them and they will help you.

5) Participate WITH your shell. Dont expect them to do all the work. You are part of the shell, even as the leader.

6) Keep a variety of job classes in your shell.

7) Be willing to PL for gil when work slows down.

8) Always be available druing expansion pack releases and big updates. We expect to make a killing off this chocobo update simply because people want chocobos and dont want to work for them.

So what do I do to automatically earn this gil from them? I provide, work and care for my shell. Sometimes I make money, sometimes I lose it. Its what works for the shell members that I really care about.

Excalibur is looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

Poor Bramd on our server, he comes to most camps as Warrior now.

He has an excalibur. It's quite a sad weapon compared to other upgrades.

Knights of Round? Spirits will normally produce bigger numbers.

Latent effect? Additional damage proportional to HP. Give or take 300-500 damage that will not give enmity. It only damages. This was confirmed by a BG member who quit FFXI weeks after obtaining his Excalibur.

Hidden effects? What are you smoking? Or does it really add Regen/Invinciblity?(wtf?)

The only hidden effect I know of, is the ability to break damage cap. Dealing upwards of 2x and sometimes 3x normal damage.

You mentioned you have all equipment which you need...But do you have an Aegis?

Yes im quite serious about the hidden effects. (Tested by a friend of mine.) I read about it on a comment on Alla and decided to test it for myself.

After a certain amount of fighting in the same battle, you will get a 10 HP regen as long as you are wielding excalibur. Good for long drawn out fights. Not good for exp parties.

The invincibility is EXTREMELY rare and quite short. I think it only lasts from 10-15 seconds. Still, thats half a PLD's 2 hour at best.

I sat in with my friend while he fought Genbu with his LS. He was tanking (hes PLD, not RDM) and I was backup tank. At one point, Genbu's attacks, including TP attacks did ZERO damage. This lasted for about 7 seconds, but it took us a few seconds to realize that he wasnt taking damage at all.

Just to make sure it wasnt a fluke, me and him did that Diorama ballista 7 times. (We had alot of ballista points to blow between the two of us.). Me vs him. We would pummel each other, stop, cure, the go back to pummeling. Then on the 5th fight for a string of about 12 seconds, I was doing NO damage. I decided to try doing magic damage (I subbed BLM just so we could use magic) so I used some Fire, Thunder and Aero spells. Those still did minor damage, but physical attacks an my weaponskills did not damage.

Im not sure what triggers Invincibility. As far as I can tell its random. The regen seems to be after a certain period of time during the same battle. (From when you draw your weapon to when you put it away is considered one battle.)

And no, no aegis. On my list, but excalibur comes first.

Hey all. Im a PLD 73 having fun in Dynamis. I have pretty much the setup and gear that I want but there is one thing I still lust for. Excalibur.

I know it isnt the best thing I could be using, but its a goal I have had my eye on for a while and the Knights of the Round weaponskill, while somewhat dissapointing, is still a pretty nice thing to have.

Not to mention Excaliburs hidden latent affects of Regen and the ever rare Invincibility.

My question is this:

Is it possible to get Excalibur (from stage 1-4) without having to buy gil or farm for a year non-stop?

I see in most forums that the average total cost rounds up to roughly 99 million gil, which in my opinion is absurd.

If I have to farm forever...so be it I suppose. I dont really have much else as far as quests and such left. But buying gil is NOT an option.

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or shreads of hope?

Good luck with your goals. I want the Spharai, and I bet you got the same thing I did when I stated such. Are you rich? Do people like you? Dude that weapon sucks this one is so much better. Blah Blah Blah...I hope you achive Excalibur, maybe we will meet one day in game weilding relic weapons side by side.

Some mule was bazaaring Shei'hk Manteel for 50,000,001 gil. Another mule was selling it for 45,000,000. And another was selling it for 35,000,000...

So I suppose that 43,000,001 be reasonable, for that is the average between the 3. But that's based off of 3 bazaars I've seen. I would recommend that you either make offers, or fine a defined price for the item. Definitely find the defined price, but you can make offers if you find it fit to do so.

No seller wants to be undercut...

But no buyer wants to be overcharged.

Sheihk Manteel is the HQ synth of Sha'ir Manteel which sells for 35-40M on its own! Sheihk Manteel is a Tier 0 (yes thats 2-3% HQ chance) because of the subcraft being Clothcraft Lv60 and its impossible to have Goldsmithing 106 + Clothcraft 71 on the same character.

Sheihk manteel is one of the rarest objects in the game even rarer then relic weapons themselves and were rumoured to have sold on a couple servers for 500M gil back in Jan/Feb at the time of inflation.

So I'm guessing you are talking about Sha'ir Manteel's.

And even if you are able to make Sha'ir Manteel's like myself you won't ever profit from them because no one sells Cashmere Cloths. And if they do they sell is for barely less then you can get for the finished Manteel which means you lose money in the end because you will most likely break many before you ever HQ if you ever do manage that flukey Tier 0 synth.

I am yet to synth a single Sha'ir Manteel simply because of lack of access to Cashmere Cloths and the fact that Clothcrafters no longer find it profitable to desynth the volatile subligars.

I thought this was the case, I remember when thadeus made a HQ manteel and some people were saying prices in the hundreds of millions. Given the rarity of even the materials, I couldn't imagine that the price had dropped to such a low level.
