Is it that big of a deal?

I don't think it is that big of a deal just invite someone else. I do it quite a bit because I will get involved with something other than FFX1 and forget to check. Sometimes I will just wait until I get invited by someone I know and trust also, or sometimes I just will fall asleep. If putting my flag up and not responding makes me an asshole, oy ve! You people are definately playing the wrong game.

ya, i always go afk when i used to seek on my dragoon... mostly because it would take around 2-3 weeks to get an invite back in the day... dunno how bad it is now
