Is my computer good enough to run XI?

I hope this is in the right board. I'm also sure you get a lot of these, so apologies. I'm upgrading my computer next week, and I merely would like to see if the members here think it will run. I'll post links to what my computers specs are as well as the video card I'm getting and the RAM I'm getting. If you could please simply take a quick look at it, a simple yes or no will suffice. I played XI on my old PS2 with the HDD back whenever that was, but I would like to comeback on PC now...hopefully I'll be able to.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to post the links. Here they are:

My original computer specs:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...3265&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Video card I'm buying: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150270

RAM I'm buying:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141215

Thanks a lot, everyone.

if you bought a computer after 2004 or 2005, it can run ffxi

that being said, anything you buy in todays industry will not only run ffxi, but will run it at maximum settings.

Yeah, that exact system should be able to run XI fine with that video card & memory upgrade. You might have some issues with performance in high density events like Dynamis or HNMs but then again - who doesn't?

Thank you very much, everyone. Hopefully this time next week I'll be running around once again in Quetzalcoatl.

you'd be pushing it with those specs. you can d/l the benchmark program from http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/download/media/benchmark01.html?pageID=media to see how it will be by the numbers.

you'd be running with no weather, no shadowing and somewhat rough chracter models. The lag in heavy areas would probably crash you connection. but you should be able to enjoy plently of the game thou.

Ouch! Do you mean the specs that I currently have? Or even with the 1 gig of RAM and the new video card (GeForce FX 5200)? Because if I have to strip away that much of the game even with the upgrades...I'm going to have one heck of a time trying to play the game as I did on my PlayStation 2.

It will run a lot better on that PC than on your PS2, but the video card will probably be the bigger bottle neck. The Geforce 5000 series was a piece of crap. If you can get something in the Geforce 6000 series (ie, 6800) or maybe even an ATI Radeon 9700 or 9800, you'd be set. The Radeon 9700 was the direct competitor of the Geforce 5900 but it blew it away.. and you can get them cheap if you can find them.

Much obliged, I'll keep that in mind. I'll do just that, I have a little more spending money than I initially thought.

yeah thats what i was trying to get across, you going to turn those things off by preferance if you ran that PC. i did it on my old pc because i wanted a little more then satisfactory, not because of it's graphical limitations.

old PCI video cards can only go so far. You would have to get something with PCI-E or even AGP to get much farther from that platform without a whole new motherboard with a higher socket and faster FSB. A higher ram pin probably too.

it's a dangerous tumble sometimes, trying to upgrade your pc and ending up having a entire new pc cuz all the new stuff conflicts with the outdated stuff.

Damn... What a bummer. Well, thank you very much for the information. I'm not so tech savvy, as you can see. Hmm... Well, I definitely don't have the money for a new PC right now, so I suppose I'll have to go with what I can get as of now. I hope it will run alright without crashing every other minute. I can stand having crappy graphics, it's the experience I want. What I can't stand is having to restart the game every time I play...or heck, not playing at all.

The video card shouldn't be too big a deal for FFXI, it's mostly CPU centric. Thankfully nVidia actually did a good job optimizing the drivers for the FX5x00 trainwreck so it shouldn't be that big a deal.

Just leave the weather off, that'll be the biggest bottleneck.
