Is there a pattern to Ifrit's Cauldron's eruption?

Neyla and I were running around the center of Ifrit's Cauldron with our NPCs, charming Opo-Opos and turning them loose on the Volcanic Gases like a little remote-controlled bomb squad, when the whole damned mountain exploded. Lava shooting up into the sky and big red rocks falling back down... it was a nice bit of atmosphere I'd never witnessed before.

This happened during double-Rain weather around 16:30.

I got a quick screenshot of it, but I want a better one. Can anyone tell me if it's a scripted event along the lines of that bird that swoops down into the pond in Lufaise? Any kind of pattern so I can be ready the next time?

It looks awesome doesnt it? I saw it the other night but didnt manage to get a screenie til it was almost over :(

Wait wait....Shouldnt you be dead if you are inside the volcano D:

I think SE should make it so that anyone inside gets repeatedly hit with Burn Status =P

Completely derailing the thread, how is the monkey charming going at 67? I'd kinda figured I'd have to avoid Ifrits for a few more levels because I thought I'd have trouble charming the monkeys, and do they stand up ok against the bombs?

Monkey charms are spotty, which is why I keep the Light Staff equipped the entire time we're in there and try to avoid the ones clustered together. They destroy the bombs, though. My NPC is on the verge of dinging 55 already.

At 67 we're pretty much there just to level our NPCs because it's obscenely easy and fast. The monkeys are getting better but will still rip your face off on a mischarm, so you pretty much want light staff and all your other charm gear on at the time. When we put them up against the bombs they're total brutes. The Dispel move is lame, especially against mobs that love to Berserk themselves, but some of their other TP moves can do up to 500-600 damage. After Berserk they'll hit the bombs for 120-150 a swing. Close to 200 on critical hits.

I might wait a few more levels fefore I try to use them on the bigger bombs then.... Bombs are bad enough between charms, having an angry monkey chasing me as well may be a bit too much :P

We haven't toyed around with the higher level bombs since we're pretty much in and out with our NPCs, but we venture further and further in every time we go. I've never felt as safe in there as I do on BST.

67? hmm i don't remember doing monkey on bomb at 67.
i remember doing bat bombs starting at 69...

its not great to use monkeys to lvl up at all.

I believe it happens every time someone beats Ifrit Prime... But I've never tested it, it's just the only reason I can think of.

Again, we're just goofing around with the bombs and the monkeys towards the jungle. We've never tried to level in the Cauldron. All things considered, I'd rather level in the new zones for Sanction and Refresh.

There was a party of players in there, so there may be something to that. I didn't check their levels; I don't know if they were fighting Ifrit. That would be pretty cool if that's what triggers it... although it would make getting a screenshot a lot harder for me.

That's pretty sweet dude, I've never seen that. The eruption came from the lava pool at the bottom of the main open pit that all the paths circle around?

Yah I love it when the cauldron goes explodey :P

Also, unless I'm very much mistaken, Ifrit does play a factor in the eruption. I'm pretty sure I found that out at the same time that I heard that completing the Smn quest is what triggers the rainbow in La Theine Plateau. If the part about the rainbow's true, I'm pretty sure the volcano rumor has some merit as well.
