My chocobo auto retired today at the age of ~140.

wow, I was wondering if that happens or not. I'm on like day 130 or something, so I bet mine is only a few days away.. Ah well, all it's stats are poor and its yellow..lol. Hopefully I get a colored one next round ^^

Yeah, that's why I never wanted to raise one. However now that I know they last a long time, it might be worth it to start one.

That really sucks for all the ppl who spent millions on all the best food and crap for thier bird..lol. I just fed mine Gyhsal(sp?) greens..lol. The cheap crap.

You say these things as if you can't still use the chocobos you've raised after they retire. The only thing that changes is you can't improve their stats anymore.

oooooooooooooooh. for awhile neyla i thought that was the very cse.

Orly O.o

Isn't the whole point of retirement to stop working? Seems weird you could still ride a broken down, old chicken.

Neyla's correct. You get a VCS Registration Card when they retire, and you can use that to ride them or breed them as often as you want. Your investment isn't wasted.

I'd originally plan to wait until PapaPaprika auto-retired, but opted to drop him early and start on a new one. Now I'm raising a blue bird named GhostWing.

Question for those who have their grown chocobos.

How many times can you ride your chocobo and for how long a trip?

The Chocobo Whistle has 25 charges on it, but you can restore it full at any time by trading to the trainer in the stables. Each charge is 1k, so you can ride it as many times as you want if you're willing to pay.

As for length of the ride, that is determined by endurance. When Paprika retired, he had Average endurance. I tested it out, and he can make the run from Windurst to Jeuno (following the road the entire way) with no problem.

My guess would be that Average endurance and strength would be comparable to a stable choco in speed and duration, anything higher would be slightly faster/longer. Can anyone confirm that?

And yeah, retire your crappy birds and start over people, they made choco raising a lot better in a recent patch, stats on young birds increase way faster. My current bird is only 15 days and already A Bit Deficient in str and endurance.

Dunno about endurance, haven't stayed on mine long enough to find out, but First-Class Strength is as fast as a Rental. Not faster.

I am on my 3rd I cant seem to get a colord one its very frustrating :(

Blah, that sucks that you have to be top-notch just to be the same as a rental. I guess the only bonus of your own is calling it in any choco-friendly zone, and possibly fancy colors (assuming you don't have a digging choco of course).

Yes it happened today at day 130, however to ease some concerns you get a VCS registration card for your bird and can use that to perpetually recharge/mate the chocobo. You never "lose" it unless you throw the card away.
