.....I was on the beta for FFXI on the PC for the NA release. To tell you the truth I really didn't care much for it at the time. I hated the keyboard controls 
. However, I had purchased the game on the PS2 the week of the NA release, and have been with it ever since, but I did graduate to the Xbox 360 version.
I have met plenty of people in the game and I consider all of them friends of mine.
I was just a nOOb THF when I started killing bunnies around Sandy doing /shouts saying I was the BUNNY SLAYER! Then I was running around killing things in Ghelsba Outpost when I came across a RNG killing things there at the top near Warchief Vatgit. She was talking to me and kinda showing off as she was a higher level than I. She handed me my first Linkshell called twentyfourseven.
I met a buncha people on that LS some who have become my vest best friends until this day. One of them is Atill and the other is Archisha. Together we explored a lot of the game from doing the sandy missions together, and starting to EXP. I remember out first trip as low level people to Holla and taking pictures on the steps, then to Ordelle's Caves.. where Atty survived a poison attack within a inch of his life at 2hp when it wore.
My RL friend Broz also started with me. He started in Bastok and wanted to meet us to get a pearl for twentyfourseven so he ran to the dunes and caught arrgo in that blasted Sand Bat cave and died with us watching on the other end.
twentyfourseven was a great LS, but it was time to move on, and Atty, Archi, and I pooled our gil together and bought a new LS pearl. We formed out own LS called WorldBeaters. It was mainly for Atill, Archisha, Broz, and myself to hang out in. Broz's RL girlfriend started to play Nat and she joined us of course and then we soon got a few new members Sinius the Dark Knight, Wolfeye the Bard. We were a small LS, but that was ok. It was just us friends playing together.
I remember getting my subjob items with Atill, and then leveling a job to sub to my Thief. I got BLM to 8, and RDM to 12. and they were my subjobs until I got THF to 30. Yeah, back then nobody cared about the gimpness and the subjobs of a character. I just wanted to get Ninja
Atill was RDM until he got to 30 so he could get SAM. Hell Broz was a Hume, then restarted over and came back as a Galka.
Fun times.. We all leveled together, and did missions together. Some of us could do it more often than others so we did outlevel each other, but Atill and I said we were gunna stick together close as possible in levels so we could get to 75 together. We did all kinds of missions, and quests together the Thief and Samurai friend. We overcame plenty of difficult challenges with this dynamic duo.
As we got up in levels we met several people who would change our lives Mateo. He was a PLD we met while Atill and I were leveling. Eventually this connection would lead us to the Linkshell called Machina. We met the members of Machina while we were helping Mateo get a Jelly Ring. Kaikyaku the MPKing BST, Jinky the Kind Hearted WHM, Eximir the wisecracking RDM (Now known as Exx), Finley the cute lil BRD, Guldor the silver haired tiny taru BLM, Gatttsu the mediocre RDM but better DRG, and Maccent the brave WHM. We got invited to Machina and at this time Atill, and I were in our 70's along with Wolfeye. We achieved our level 75 together.
Times changed people changed met a lot more cool people on Machina, some stayed, some left onto end game shells, or onto greener pastures of RL.
Some of the new people that I have met that have become good friends and acquaintances with would be Vafruvant, Cuacos, Kodi, Vorhan, Botosai, Bigjohnson, Torq(ican'tspellyourname), Amazonia, Fravan, The Real Cathrya, Napal (Grats on the Newborn Baby (wish you would come back to the game!) are just to name a few.
I've joined other Event Linkshells like Encore, which will always be my second home. Thank you Audino, Willian (banana phone), Jamal, DragonX, Micah, Kahsha, Genk.... so many to name. You guys were awesome.
So this is not a Good Bye to FFXI at all, but "It is time..." to say HEY what's Up?! Thanks you for the many hours I spent in this game and the friends, and my new family I made in these digital walls. I love you FFXI, and I look forward to staying with you until when the end comes years and years away from now.
