+% items and +# items

While it's not addressing this particular case, SE is very much capable of goofing their item descriptions. Do a bit of research into the "enmity" stats on SMN AF/AF+1. (Legs and feet in particular, iirc.)

Wonder if they've even fixed it yet - aside from the obvious case of the AF+1 that earlier listed "Enmity-" twice, which was so obvious that even SE got the idea and fixed the appropriate one to say "Avatar: Enmity-". But I think there may still be some goofs in the descs for some of the others, where it says "Enmity-" but means "Avatar: Enmity-".

I just dont believe these are translation errors because theyre so widespread across many different equipment pieces, with so many different abilities

It's not that hard to believe, actually. They messed up the grammar of when people receive status effects in a recent update, so it's not that hard to believe that the descriptions mean the exact same thing but are written differently.

Exactly. If you have one person write up the description for one item and one person write up the description for another (or hell, it can even be the same person on different occasions), and your rules for description consistency aren't crystal-clear and/or you don't even *check* for description consistency from one item to another, it's an entirely understandable mistake.

After all, Double Attack is itself a percentage stat, so both +1 and +1% could *very* easily mean the same thing, with the former omitting the units and the latter specifying them. As opposed to, say, Attack, which is an integer stat, so the difference between Attack +20 and Attack +20% would either be *quite* a typo, or would in fact mean two very different effects.

(And you're living under a rock if you think SE is quick to correct cosmetic typographical goofs. Considering how relatively little they change per update and how long it takes them to iron out and test some fairly simple stuff (see choco racing ... well, that, and everything else in the game), and how very much bug report nagging it takes to get them to notice stuff ... I think it's not at all unreasonable to suspect their dev team is not all that many people.)

I view those 'Enhances' pieces as just that. If you can cast magic... then it'll make it faster. If you can dual weild... it will make it faster. If you can attack... it will make you double attack.

There's probably an underlying sort of base 'ability' list for all jobs. /Attack /Magic etc. and whatever else they're capable of. We start seeing items that enhance those abilities and all of a sudden we start thinking they 'give' it to us, and in a way they sort of do.

the description for sidewinder (quadruple damage) is actually a mistake also, as calculations have proven it to be a 5x damage increase. another of SE's description errors

as stouter and vilurum have already stated, +1% = +1, chalk it up to a lack of consistency in item/gear descriptions

Its been rumored that the Warrior's Cuisses +1 DA is a reproc of DA if it doesn't kick in.
IE, you have a 10% chance of DA, and you don't DA. Warrior's Cuisses lets you reroll, giving you another 10% chance.
I want to, but can't believe this. I always hoped the AF2 would re-roll the die on a failed DA proc, but wearing them fulltime I must say the difference is negligible.

When was the Mercurial Sword added? Must be at least 3 years ago... yet it still has a typo. Weapon says "2-3 times", when in practice it is 2-4 (as tested by a PLD/WHM, to quell the "IT DUBL ATKED!" naysayers). Whether they are actual typo's, or intentional hidden effects (back to the Merc Sword, it could have a hidden effect "occassionally attacks 4 times") that stack with the weapon's visible effects, we will never know.

I tried it on white mage, but I never got a kick off. Although that might have had something to do with white mage not having any natural hand to hand skill.

Any gear with +number will give a percentage increase. However, I don't believe it's been said but anything with "enhances X effect" is not clear as to how much it actually enhances without actually parsing. Items like Brutal Earring and WAR AF1 feet both have enhances double attack effect, but they give 5% and 1% increases to DA respectively. There are other items such as Suppa and Sarashi or Loquocious and RDM AF/Relic which give varying percentages to the enhanced effects.

I'm guessing Double Attack +1% gives a flat 1% double attack rate. Basically gives that trait, while "Double Attack +1" gives 1% to the already existing trait.

Basically, NIN don't have Double Attack at lvl 38, so "Double Attack +1" would mean nothing, since you don't have Double Attack, while "Double Attack +1%" grants a 1% double attack trait.

That's my guess, anyway.

No, you'd still get double attack if the item says "double attack +1." Store TP gear works on any job even without the store TP trait, and someone told me that the kick attacks +6 on bahamut's hose will work even if you're not a monk main.

this is correct, phraust could kick on THF this way .. he tested it :)
