So I upgraded to Vista on my machine last month since it was dying and I had no other choice... So the other day, while trying to update the forceware for my graphics card, what happens? Vista gets moody because apparently I adjusted the registry too much installing the drivers... Meaning in two days my computer will go into Reduced Functionality Mode.

So I'll have to talk on the phone with Microsoft, who will probably not speak english very well, or go and buy a new OS and reformat my shit _again_. Oh, my life hurts...

(Don't give me the Vista Sucks shit either, I know. I had no other choice.)

Also, I'm still getting random drops in my FPS for no reason. I'll just be standing there, running at 29.1 FPS... then boom, .5 FPS. No warning, nothing has changed in the programs I always use... Just rape.

wonder if Windows Update killin your performance Skeith. I always noticed crazy performance hits when wualclt.exe would run in the background. (I am pretty sure thats a misspelled *.exe name for win update, but it is close).

how exactly did you have "no other choice"? :P there's always a choice besides Vista (shitty stupid OS.. Microsoft fails so hard in so many ways -_-)

I like how 90% of the things people complain about with Vista were just about the same things people said about XP during its first year

I just got off the phone with trying to reactivate it. apparently it's only supposed to be activated on one computer. -.- So whatever~ I'll have to shell out some money to get another OS.

...and before anyone says it, XP has the same validation system Vista does

Vista does suck. There are versions you can acquire which will be activated and pass genuine validation w/o a key :-) There are also XP "modifiers" you can obtain to generate keys and pass validation. Barring that, try this fix to delay activation for 240days. Normally, it requires a re-install, but w/ 2 days left you're best backing up all your important info and trying some of this.

-Reinstall Vista w/o a license key
-you'll get a 30 day warning after the OS comes up
-To reset the timer to 30 days, open a terminal in admin mode
-type slmgr-rearm
-that'll reset to 30 days. You can do this three times
-Go ever further by going to regedit
-go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\SL
-in the right panel, right-click SkipRearm and choose modify
-change the 0 to a 1
-this allows the reactivation trick mentioned above to work 8 times instead of 3

Well I've downgraded to XP Media Center edition '05, which works for the most part. I'm just having problems with some of my hardware, namely my sound card which is on-board my motherboard. I have all the drivers, it's just not reading the card correctly. Anyone wanna give me some suggestions? -.-;

I have one "?PCI Device" under "Other Devices" and many, many "Unknown" drivers:

Audio Codecs, Hauppauge WinTV-PVR PCI II (Encoder-16), Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy video Capture Devices, Media control Devices, nVidia WDM A/V crossbar, nVidia WDM video Capture (Universal)(Which cannot be turned on), and Video Codecs.

Well I got my sound chips to work by doing some intensive searching on german-based sites(My computer is from a german company). I was quite pleased. xD As long as I have sound and video, I don't think I'll have any complaints.

yeah... not everything is working, so I have to figure out how to install it all.

I found the problem to my fps problem. The fan on my video card melted. I'm posting this from my PSP. Yay technology.
