Why am i still having to recheck files every time I get kicked out of the queue for the update download? Why can we just check it once?

On further thought, I suppose the re-check is to see if you've completed part of the download but if I gonna get checked can we at least hold a spot in the queue.

Furthermore, why do we still have this server bottleneck? would it really cost a fortune to temporarily host a few servers for the sole purpose of distributing the download? a mirror site here and there?

I am by no means computer savvy, I can fix most of my problems on my own but I do require help. So i apologize in advance if my questions are ignorant and uninformed. But why hasn't this gotten any better in the last 6 years?

They want to test your loyalty to them still.
 
It's probably for the exact same reason they won't update the linkshell system, they designed the system so early and built on it so much, that it's just not worth re-vamping. It'd be easier to design a whole new game without this problem than to redesign some aspects of this game and have it work perfectly on the first try so that you wouldn't need months of constant maintenance.
 
I've never had a problem with Updates... until today. Can anyone tell me what the fuck D:Patch.txt is, and why it's so important?
 
No, sadly, I cannot. I can, however, tell you that Rusty Trombone is better than chocolate.

How long have you been trying to update? Mine actually went smoother than usual.

Quick question to the both of you: Do you use non-official Windower?
 
I use outdated official windower, but updates have been like this for me always, even well before i was introduced to windower.



Lucki, the problem you're having with D:patch.txt is you getting kicked out of the queue.

As best I can guess, when the server has room for you, it lets you DL the current version info, after thats downloaded it checks your files but while youre doing that it lets someone else into youre spot on the queue, now the queue is full, server at capacity, and when it tries to download the first file (patch.exe) you cant reconnect because theres no room for you.
 
On my eighth try with this file checking bullshit.
Maaaan.
 
The first couple of go-arounds, I was trying to Update by clicking on my Windower icon, but since that didn't work, I tried just Updating through the POL icon. So far it seems to be working.

Yeah, I do, v3.4. Didn't use the POL icon for update, either.

I had the exact opposite problem, I needed to use windower to update.

How hard would it be for them to use the world servers to host the update, even if they have to extend maint for 2 hours or so to do it. It would be better than having 75% of people waiting 4+ hours to even start an update

For those of you having trouble. Download this and paste the folder in your program files. You should then have the option to overwrite, do so then load ffxi again. PoL will check all the files instead of updating. You can then play and enjoy the awesome new features. :D

Be warned though. This erases all .dat swaps. :3

Man, I wish I could access my PS2's harddrive and do it.
 
started dling with windower now it failed the first two times but now it seems like it's almost done...30mins left remaining now. It's kinda funny and a little sad that the unofficial windower with dling is helping more than the regular lulz.
