Comcast is going to be placing a cap on to their customers on October 1st. The cap is being set at 250 gigabytes for download.

So Comsack thank you for fucking your customers over. We know your customers asked nothing about a cap on internet usage. Well some probably did but referring more so to a timer to turn off the connection to get people's kids in bed.

bawwwww

Honestly I don't like capping either but unless you're a dedicated server farm admin (sup reeve?) this is never going to affect you.

unlike time warner, and charter, who have bandwidth caps at about 5gb and 20gb, respectively.

now, their throttling is a different scenario entirely, they can go to hell for that.

didn't congress try to ban internet companies from doing this?

Who the hell downloads 250GB of useful stuff per month anyway?

Assuming most families only have 0 to 2 savvy torrent type users, even 180GB would be more than enough per month.

Every image, soundclip, youtube video, and every single thing you download from a page is counted. If you clear your cache at least daily like a good Internet user, this tends to rack up over time.

My Dad downloads torrents pretty much daily. We have 3 laptops and 2 PC's on our internet and we very very rarely go over our 50gb "Fair Usage Policy" each month. 250gb would be awesome ; ;.

Porn's a bitch of a mistress.

Alright, alright, I'm lying - there's no way I could ever download that much of anything in a month.

Ikari might though...

When you have 4 computers (two of which never get their caches cleared daily guaranteed), a Wii, PS3, 2 people that use torrents, and an Xbox the cap is still a tad daunting.

I also read somewhere that Comcast is also going to start reporting person to person users and torrent users.

i had a 40 GB cap and they called me telling me i went over the limit last month and if i wasnt to have a 60GB cap i should upgrade, only thing is when i upgrade i will NOT get a faster internet speed because im too far away from their central headquarters...and im in the middle of the damn city. So they want me to pay for the upgrade just so i can download 20 more GB a month. I didnt even know there was a cap when i signed up. This is toast net by the way, pisses me off.

In the Chicago land area for the most part we're stuck with one internet service provider for cable internet, and that is Comcast. Yes that is right the only competition for Comcast is AT&T which they have not finished placing in their fiber optics in my area yet. I doubt we'd ever hit the cap, but I think that Comcast is placing in the cap because they let too many people onto their lines which was slowing connections down for everyone.
