I'm Malchiah, a Dragoon, and I've got a goal. Lanien, Eleibfrid, I will become a Dragoon equal to, IF NOT BETTER than both of you. (~_^)b It's a good goal and I hope to get there, but in the meantime, what advice can anyone offer me on Dragoon? I'm going to take all the advice, pull it together, sort it out, and use it to the best of my ability.

Thank you all.

Malchiah.

Um... DRKs generally arent the shiznit man... They only come into their own around 66 when they get Spinning Slash. Until then they are not first tier Damage Dealers period. Sure Guillitine is nice and all but Scythe delay and ACC is generally the suckz. Plus mobs that a DRK will do well on DRG will do very well on. Plz don't flame me for my opinions, this is just what I've seen. :)

DRK are more useful than a DRG in the end game T.T it's the sad truth.... so sad... Stun and their uber SATA damage onto tanks.. oh the pain x.x where as a DRG... S-E just screws them hardcore...

This isn't a "Flame DRG" thread, so just stop it, please. His question wasn't "Which job is better", or even "Should I choose DRG?". He asked for tips regarding the DRAGOON job, he didn't even MENTION Dark Knight. So fuck off, both of you.

I just have one piece of advice, always make sure your gear is as up to date as it can get.

That is all.

If you can do that, you will pwn. And like me, you will have Samurai asking you how the @$%# you're pulling 100+ dmg per swing. Mwahaha.

I was just mentioning DRK cause someone said they weren't useful (or so it seemed) >.> so you can politely go "fuck off" as you put it..

anyways... advice.. hmm. well from up to about 60 I'd say best sub for DRG would be WAR. At 60 you will want to either start subbing SAM (for meditation and such) or THF (for SATA). As this is a DD job. DEX STR and Atk are always useful to up more. Not sure on your level but a few things a DRG might want to invest in are a SH at 57 and then if you can get help to acquire and assault jerkin that will be better for parties at 67. At 70 if you have the money and can find one of those Ores a Barone body piece I think might be more useful there. The other Barone pieces might be useful depending on what gear you can get a hold of too. Optical Hat is a must for melee at 70. Not so sure on weapons for levels. Valk mask will prolly be used more than the DRG AF helm other than you macroing that in. Foods.. hmm sushi will be what you'll most likely use for Accuracy Bonus and prolly might want the one that ups STR a bit too. That's the best advice I can give.. I bet Kirayamato or Lanien or Eleibfrid or another DRG will give much better advice

DRG 43 =oD

never gimp your gear.

and if someone ever starts talking shit on your job, blacklist them. half the people who talk shit are either drks or idiots. take no prisoners.

1. Yes, blacklist the infidels.
2. Yes, keep your gear above par if you can.
3. Alway be aware of alternate camp sites with flying mobs if possable.

I say that last point, because if you get invited to a party at say... thirty-eight and thirty-nine range going to crawlers.

Then check out who's in Gustav Tunnel. You get a bonus on the flys and bats there, as would any Thieves most likely in your pt. As well as any Rangers. With no other people there the xp is also fast.

Being able to set your group up in a better spot is a very good way to improve your reputation. Also, knowing where to xp best puts you in the best light as a DD.

*Thieves can also steal Mithril Beastcoins from the gobs there, and that makes them VERY happy. ^_^*

I made the mistake of not doing a lot of research for 47-49 and missed out on good xp from the bats in Garliage. I had been partying in the desert and crawlers...

Then I actually get to try SATAVB on some bats there... 700+ dmg... oh man I regret partying on spiders and crawlers now...

Don't blacklist...

Invite them to a party and show their asses up.

As for advice, I'll get back to you on that when I have more time to post. Just readin threads then heading to work, so I'll get back to you.

Whoever said the Drk quest stfu >.> He didn't ask for what job he should be. And I'm not even get into the first tier dmg question :P

Anyways, its good you have a goal set for yourself. That's what makes good players ^^

First off I love dragoons, but due to some of the bad rep of the job, you don't have room to really screw around. The moment you start to play meh or even gimp, people are going to blame you AND the job.

So snipers right at 40, best up to date polearm for numbers possible, get HQs if you can. Bring the best str+ rings you can for swawping in during WS if you think your WS will hit no problem without.

There are those 2 masks in the 40s that give attack+10 or something, definitely grab one of them

Also if you can get or make a static go for it. But the other damage dealer should be a thief or darkknight. DRG+DRK or DRG+THF are optimal teams because they can always make best SCs for every level, assuming drk has greatsword and scythe leveled.

3-65 they can make distortion Skillchains all the way. Drk should have greatsword as primary weapon starting at 60 when with a dragoon for the most part. Skewer---> sickle moon or whatever.

Then at 66-75 they switch into high gear and can make light SCs

Drk+Drg at 71-75 can also make Dark Skillchains.

Dragoon also SCs with monk at high levels but that's not really 'long' term.

I wish you the best of luck in your quest. It sounds like there are lots of nay-sayers, but if you are successful, oh the victory will be so much sweeeeter. /salute

Step 1 to be better than Lanien

Raise 5M and get two astrals, trade them for one body piece.

Step 2
eh ill think of it later, you got a few months to try to finish step 1.

=oD good stuff...

Indeed. I've already determined it's going to take alot to farm. And I -do- plan on attaining a Scoropion Harness, I believe, I have a friend who can bonecraft it. So I may call on you guys for some BCNM help sometime or something <_<; wherever the ingredients drop. Anywho, Yeah I am going to be farming alot. I'm going to try and level up Samurai. Thief is ok, but the DOT from things like Berserk, and the whatnot seem to weigh out the SATA, but that's just right now. We'll wait and see later down the road. That's also how one gets good, they go out on a limb and experiment until they find the optimal solution. And no, I won't do that in Exp parties if I can avoid it ~_^

I thought you'd quit. Please do the same for QCDN if you're just going to pull shit like this. Thank you.

To the OP:

I must admit I haven't partied with DRGs very often at all, but I see plenty of level 75 DRGs running around so it can certainly be done!^^ Build a reputation and stick it to 'em!

**WARNING: VERY LONG** ><

Mal,
Since I only have a level 8 DRG, the best advice I can give you that is DRG specific is to use a spear, and hit stuff with the pointy end directed towards the monster. That about covers it. Ok you got me... I'm not really sure about that much even.

What I will say though is something that is more common sense than revolutionary, and it applies to all jobs that don't currently enjoy a lot of popularity or even widespread acceptance as well as the ones that do. Ok here it goes:

Don't try to be the best DRG you can be.

No I don't mean get another job, I mean don't shoehorn yourself into focusing on being a better DRG than the best ones you know. The main thing I would recommend to you is to focus your energies on being the best PLAYER you can be. There are several reasons for this. People are going to have their preconcieved notions about DRG. There are plenty of equipment guides and macro and sub and everything guides out there. If you can pay for the best stuff you can have the same or even better numbers than good players. That's not what makes a good player though, and that's not what makes a good DRG.

You will NOT be able to convince the whole server that DRG is awesome. Ele for example is widely respected and viewed as a great player, and he is a DRG (grats on 75 btw!). Even so, you've already seen the barrage of negativity that comes up when people talk about DRG. I know you weren't here before Zentatsu was gone, but he was a VERY good player, and a very good DRG. All the disrespect towards his job constantly got him down though. It was said of him that he was proof that DRGs didn't have to suck, but that didn't make him feel any better. The negative view towards DRG was one of the factors that made him quit the game, and Vana'diel lost a great man when he did.

Enough of what not to do, let's focus on the constructive end. There are people in this game who are known to be great, knowledgeable and VALUABLE players to have in your party, no matter what job they are currently playing. Abilities and levels don't transfer from job to job, but knowledge, experience, and skill do. This is the type of player that you will want to strive to be in order to achieve your goal. You need to know as much as you can about everything and be able to present it in a way that comes across as helpful and competent, not superior, bragging or lecturing.

How do you do this? You will want to know all about the possible skill chains and weapon types in a group, and the weaknesses of the mobs they can exploit. You will want to know how to put together a successful party, not just grab a bunch of RNG and a NIN and go at it, but build a well balanced group whose abilities mesh and make a whole greater than the sum of the parts. You will want to know the hazards and benefits of not only the common but also the less common XP areas, and know how to make the best of both. Something like an emergency situation tends to stick in a person's mind, and if you can handle yourself exceptionally well in one, you tend to get remembered yourself. Always be prepared to get to a camp site and handle whatever may be there.

I can guarantee that you will be in groups with "rival" DDs like DRKs or SAM, and the best thing you can do is to not make it into a pissing contest. Figure out ways that you can get kills faster by working with them instead of against them. If people find themselves in good parties consistently with you and you are one of the few constants, they will eventually start to realize that you are the life of the party, so to speak.

A lot of times you will find yourself building your own PT as a DRG, and as leader you may have to think for your members on occasion. If you're camping in a remote location for example, you may want to grab a stack or two of cheap arrows or bolts, in case the party goes long (which is good) and the puller runs out of ammo (which is bad). Maybe a few juices or cookies or cheap DD food, anything to shore up the weak spots or the unprepared. It's easier for one person to mess up a great party than it is for one to create one, but you can at least try to minimise the damage. You'll make a lot of friends that way, bringing backup supplies to give or sell for cheap to fellow PT members.

That's how you get remembered well. Being remembered well often leads to being sought after, and being sought after and constantly performing above ever-elevating expectations is the surest way I know of to be considered "great". Maybe even the best.

One more thing; The people who are deemed to be paradigms of a particular job, such as Eleibfrid or Ellion and numerous others, should be seen as guideposts or treasure maps of insight (sorry about the cheesy metaphor), and not obstacles along your path. I know if I wanted to be the best I could be at something, I'd want to glean the knowledge of people who had it figured out rather than drawing a line in the sand and declaring them on the losing side. There's confidence and there's conceit, and text is not the best medium to tell the difference.

I probably left plenty out, but I think you get my point. I offer you no equipment advice or even specifics for the most part, but I hope this will at least give you a direction in which to set sail. Take it for what it's worth. If I knew all the answers there would be a whole lot less people thinking, "WTF! Who is this guy and why is he posting here?" as they trudge through volume 475637 of Encylopedia BS.

Good luck on your quest Mal, and when you get to the 40s I'd be happy to teach you how to be frustrated at being unable to pull hate off the tank! :D MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
