I'll say it now.

GTFO IF YOU HAVEN'T BEATEN FF12!! ENDING SPOILERS, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Oh and this is all my opinion. Feel free to argue against it, but don't bash me for it >.> <.< >.< <.>

So I beat Final Fantasy XII today. I still have tons of side stuff to do, I'm only level 47, but I wanted to finish up the story.

And I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed. Every Final Fantasy I've ever beaten before, atleast the numerical ones, have always left me wanting to go back. I always think that I'll never get to experience those characters, the story, the same way ever again.

But in Final Fantasy XII, that feeling was no longer there. At first, I thought it might just be because I'm losing interest in video games. But thats not it, Xenogears still makes me crazy, I can still be the biggest nerd on the subject if I want to.

So I reached the conclusion that the problem was the story and the game's characters. Don't get me wrong, the story is beautiful. But I'm a sucker for those emotional love stories and what not. This time around, the story was way too political for me. It kept me interested, but it never really sucked me in like other Final Fantasies have. The characters are cool, but once again, nothing special.

Say if my favorite character in FFVIII(Squall) had died, I would have probably been pretty upset. But I didn't feel too sad when Gabranth/Noah died. Hell it was kinda anti-climactic that he died laying in the airship in the aftermath and wasn't killed by Vayne. Other than that, Balthier was pretty badass. I liked Basch, Ashe, and Fran. I still don't know what the fuck Vaan and Penelo were doing in this game. But none of them engaged me as characters have in the past. Cid was definitely cool, second probably only to the Cid in FFVII.

But I guess thats what it came down to. The characters. I won't miss any of them. I won't miss Ivalice. The world is beautiful, the story is beautiful, but it didn't give me that feeling, it didn't leave me wanting more.

Despite all that, don't get me wrong. Final Fantasy XII is a spectacular game. It just didn't touch me as other games have. Hopefully Final Fantasy XIII will be a little different.

Edit 2: Oh yeah...forgot. Where the hell was the mandatory after the credits scene?!?!?!

Not even FF, some other Square RPGs in general gave me that feel...

Tygrath I totaly know what your saying. I don't know how far i'm in yet, so I wouldn't know if the story gets any more intresting or not. (I'm reaching the Feywood, chasing Cid now after coming from Archades). The characters... I don't KNOW them know them. Like if we were to compare Vaan, Penelo, Ashe, Basch, to those in FFX: Tidus, auron, Yuna, Lulu; we KNEW them. When I turned off FFX and the game ended, I literaly wanted to cry because it felt like i just lost a group of friends that i'll never see again because the storys over. I don't think i'll see it that way with this game at all. Like you said, this game is tooo political. I want to see Ashe and Vaan fall in love, know Baltheir's life story, see Fran give a little emotion and such. The characters don't even joke with each other and give us a little laughs like the others in FFX did. I was looking foward to that sorta.

But like i said, i'm prabably half way through? Theres prabably more to see. But I know this definitly won't be my favourite FF

I'm surprised you read it Cua after all my spoiler warnings XD

But yeah...I'm still playing the game lol

I still sensed that love feeling between characters:

Penelo and Vaan, a brother/sister type love, or best friend love

Fran and Balthier, tell me that wasn't kind of romantic when he saved her in the Bahamut

Ashe and Basch, he defended her throughout the game, in Penelo's letter she hinted (to me anyway) that Ashe had "missed" Basch and possibly have liked him.

I liked the nice change of pace in the story and how it turned out.

And what mandatory thing after credits?

Every final fantasy game has a short something after the credits. Atleast the last 4 or 5 have ;x

And yeah, there was some relationship between the characters. But I felt it was very weak and barely enough. The change fo pace didnt work so well for me ;x

gameplay, FFXII is a win. Story-wise is decent but ya.. pace was so messed up I think.. and it felt like things were lacking I think.. I dunno.. as a FF it felt like 6 to me. Fun, but really rushed at points and kinda just.. frantic

I read each word very slowly until i saw a word that was just like : SUPER SPOILER RUUUUN! But seriously things don't get spoiled for me that easily, and it wasn't that big of a spoiler thing. It's true though, I don't feel for the characters that much. They don't joke around or anything like X did.

I think Ele was right when she said gameplay-win, everything about it is awesome. But the rest of the game kinda sucks, the characters are the worst I've ever seen in a FF game(VII ftw, except I coulda done w/o B.A.) and the story is only meh. I think it's awesome that there was no real love story, that's one of the great things about VII, but the storyline was only ok. I don't know how else to say it besides that it just wasn't that great. I know what you all mean when you say you won't miss it, I feel the same way. Like on the KH series, I was sad when the game was over just because I had no more game to play and it sucked.

Psh, it's Vaan & Penelo that have that sort of bond, and also just so happen to play the smallest roles in the game pretty much. And Balthier was judge, killed people ,hijacked the... shit... is it the Strahl?

You find out alot of the characters in the beastiary.

see Fran give a little emotion and such.

Fran... freaks me out. Like, when you fight Vossler, she gets all possessed and everything from the nethycite.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Tidus (Tyrath). I liked this game more so than I did FF7, 8, or any FF for that matter. Which also means I enoyed it more so than I did Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and other major movies. What I'm getting at is this title contains my favorite characters/heroes, my favorite plot, my favorite alternate reality realm. I loved every minute of it, and I was hooked from the start to finish. I had chills during nearly every major sequence in the game. So where I'm seeing a lot of people saying things about FF12 I don't agree with, I still see people who are willing to accept change, or like things for their story rather than it being simply a 'game'. I don't pick up FF's anymore because 'it's a game and I like games'. I, too, am losing interest in games. But FF I buy not because of the gameplay, but because of the stories they tell and the characters they introduce, and I honestly felt this game had more character depth than any other FF, you just have to look deep into it and analyze the characters and the story.

Other FF's, like FFX for example, would have sequences where the party would start taking their time and 'talk' with each other. Especially X with Yuna and Tidus. (the sunset, whistling, etc.) However, these were all centered on a 'love' plot, and wanted to focus on those centered around that love plot. Unfortunately, the characters in FFX did not seem to have as much personality as FF12's. I felt like I 'knew' the characters as I played them, rather than this just being a game with 'game characters'.

That's my take on it. And no, I don't hate FFX. I honestly enjoyed that game quite a bit, but I'll still point out flaws when I see them. I couldn't find any in ff12. I might my second time through, but right now I can't think of any major flaws.

Hahah! That tower was insane. Don't worry, the final dungeon isn't even a dungeon, it's more like a walkway. Just turn right, run down the hall, take a left into the gigantic room, take a right on the ramp, then take the first left and you'll see a platform. Just run up to that, and prepare for boss fight extravaganza. Don't even bother fighting the guards, just keep running, because there's an endless supply of them. So you really don't have much left at all.

After that god damn tower, I don't even want to finish the game =\.
Have you done the basement levels of that tower yet? Those are even more annoying. Can't see anything most of the time.

I'm kind of pissed/suprised/sad. I just came out of the god foresakin tower, and all the sudden its the end of the game. I did NOT see that coming, lol. I found the whole fran thing cute with Baltheir.

But now its the "Final battle" which kind of makes me sad now. I thought i had alot left in the game, but it makes sence that I don't. Just really wasn't paying attention.

Now that the games nearing end, i guess like ralin said, you do see alot of the characters in debth, but still nothing to to FFX. Ralin like you said, the random "talks" they had is what really added to the game. There was hardly no "talks" in XII which everyone really enjoyed. And in X it was basicly get to Zanarkin(sp?) and then beat Sin. Here, you're all over the place, chasing Cid, getting the shards, I never really knew what was going on. Still enjoyed it though.

70 hours in, and nearly done. Good game.

P.s. Why do Balthier and Al-Cid not get along? Cid seems to get upset and emotional the times Al-Cid leaves. Something homosexual going on I suspect.

And how come we never saw the kingdom of Rozzaria?

For your first question, I think it's because Balthier is trying to be suave and might be jealous that Al-Cid does a better job at it, so there might be some of that 'ridiculous' jealousy going on. Or, he just might not like the whole idea of trying to win the heart of Ashe over.

As for Rozzaria, I guess because it wasn't central to the plot. However, I don't see any valid excuse from Square as to why we didn't get to venture there during some side quests, other than they just didn't feel like adding it and got somewhat lazy (I'm sure they'd use the 'we lost our original team' excuse).

Al-Cid sucks compared to Balthier. That is all.

Opinions are our own to toy with. Perhaps square did not do a good job at it, but Ashe was clearly affected by Al, whether it was in a good or bad way.

Al-Cid kinda seemed like a semi-useless character XD this game needs to have more to the story :P the ending just doesn't seem ending enough! (and some characters seem way too pointless to have any focus on so they need work on that) The battle system, graphics, and hunts were the saver of this game I think. Story-wise and Character-wise (development and how it was) was rather lacking compared to other FFs
