Jacking up the Auction House Prices

And when IGE creates ten powerlevelers with its dinky little 50 million gil, how many players get a Vclaw drop and power their way up a craft? How many sell their ninja gear that day and throw it all at a piece that is inflating before they lose it altogether? How many just HQ'd a cursed gear and can continue leveling in the 90 crafting world?

How many legitimate people contributing to the problem are you going to ignore while blaming IGE's few rich and spoiled? You just love to hate the concept of a person who spends gil foolishly because they didn't earn it when the only difference between them and too many players is that you think you earned yours in the end. Doesn't matter, the end is still the same. There are too many you all's. They're too proud to walk away without.

If buyers dont buy gil, they don't level crafts, they don't buy SH or Hauby, they don't buy elemental stalves, they stay broke. The stuff farmed for the crafts they level or the items they buy don't get bought and stay on AH. The back up of these items drives prices down as there are less people with gil to buy them. Rich players do play a part, but the ratio of rich/buyers has got to be a disgusting difference.
The people who get screwed are the folks who don't have the business savvy to capitolize on either one of these groups.

if there are 10 legit players going after the same resources to craft what they craft there will be a price on those items. If you add 10 IGE players going after those same resources there is going to be a shortage of resources. Prices will go up. Take those 10 IGE players away again, resources are available again and prices stabalize.

The ratio of rich players to gilbuyers has never been higher in the history of the game. If one did buy that 560 million gil for 3600 US dollars, what would that make you? Little more than elite NA. Just another L95 crafter. People hit that every day without buying gil, which is why people mistake them for gilbuyers.

They didn't buy gil. 9 times out of 10 the person you see throwing gil down like they have no business doing so didn't buy gil, I guarantee it. I don't think vang has correctly identified a CC'ing gilbuyer in over a year. I'm one. Fubio is one. I think he called Paulio one. It's just not that uncommon to be an AH aberration, folks. All it takes for a legit player to contribute to inflation is to be too proud to walk away in failure from a bid, and a handful of gil that doesn't mean what it should to them.

Inflation is a legitimate player problem, people. Stop blaming gilbuyers for the **** every last one of us with easy gil has caused.

Add the 50 people who spend gil exactly like a gilbuyer would anyway, and prices go up by four times more. The point is that legit players behave exactly like gilbuyers in spurts of activity, and prices never come down because there is always SOMEONE too proud to fail that bid and too high on skillups to quit for the day.

If I were to get a dynamis coin, 5 million flat gil, and wanted to level a craft, screw you all. Whatever craft I choose is getting powerleveled, because I don't have the time. My time can't be compensated in any amount of saved gil. And I know others would do the same and do do the same.

Then someone notes some nobody named Peregrine going from 0 to 60 alchemy in a half a week to pass them up after they've been slaving for four months to get to 53. What's the first thing that comes to their mind after, "Who the **** is Peregrine?"

Gilbuyer, that's what. On a lousy 2-bit 100 coin drop.

This was the scene a year and a half ago when the inflation was due to gil infusion. Now it's not. Dynamis is in full tilt. JSE NPC material vendors are in full tilt. They take tens of millions of gil out of the economy a day. The best gil-generating you can hope for today is mugging brigandish blade. There isn't a gil glut. There is nothing left to do with too many people's gil.

i made no allusions to the idea that the ability to "mint" gil by anyone was the reason for the recent price surges. i merely stated that it can be done and introduced ALOT of gil into quetz's gil history. if i wanted to make a best guess on the culprit of this holiday season's price spike, it would be:

1) lots of gilbuying going on now during the christmas sale. 30% of the reason is my estimate.

2) manipulated price histories by players and their mules. as mentioned before in this thread, example would be that krystopherson(sp?) character. 30% here as well.

3) 20% legitimate shopping by ****** players for christmas and those wanting to capitalize on the future bid/sell spread.

4) 5% on legit players with "too much cash" idea.

5) and i would blame the remaining 5% on random error.

(btw, i don't think cost of materials led to the increase of the items in this instance. i think the huge profits reaped at this point led to/will lead to the spike we see/will see in certain materials.)

I agree with you for the most part, rich players do splurge like buyers. If there were less people splurging you wouldn't get the inflation you have. The extra people come from IGE, you said 10 a day? thats 70 a week? 280 a month? The rich people in this game remains pretty constant with a small increase, the IGE people in this game hop into the economy by the swipe of a card at any given time.

How can you minimize the power of wanting to get yourself something nice for christmas like that? That IS what is causing this Christmas fling, because that's what it is. A fling. It just might never go away >.<

They're nothing but a flood of good folks saying, "**** this I WILL have a scorpion harness for christmas" even after fifty people had that same idea.

The rich people don't remain constant, which is why you get vang calling gilbuyer every third wednesday. They're strangers to you, so you call them gilbuyers and assume you're still elite, when in reality you simply don't know their names and the world isn't as small as you think it is.

easy. this surge is being experienced server wide. i would put more weight into your theory if it was the instance of a couple of servers seeing high ticket items jumping by millions with each AH history, but that's just not the case.

your argument about the people with too much gil on their hands being a main culprit in the spikes to be weak at best. if they had all that money, rationally, they could buy anytime they want...probably when there was a good number for sale and reasonably priced. if one has billions of gil to burn, they woulda bought that item ages ago--not wait until none were in stock with last "history" shown sold at a 50% premium.

It's christmas. You can never pick people getting gil for christmas away from people buying something nice for themselves for christmas, but you sure as can chalk the serverwide explosion up on my side. This inflation is everywhere. Things you would think gilbuyers have no business even shopping for are going up.

If there are that many gilbuyers to explode a server's economy like what we've seen in this Christmas season, then you're all gilbuyers and you can go **** yourselves, because that's what it would take. Every last one of yall buying gil. Evasion earring is SEVEN MILLION GIL. Snipers are FIVE MILLION GIL. EACH. Corse cape, which is something I was vain on and dropped gil for last month, is SEVEN MILLION GIL.

Who the **** buys corse capes with bought gil? Soloing thieves who want to try to see if they can solo off toughs buy corse capes.

fodder for the fire.

background: got this drop few weeks back. AH price was 750k back then. the moment i put mine up for sale a dozen others must have done the same and price gets reduced to 500k. i put it back up 3 times at 750k until mine is the LAST one on AH and finally sells at 50% higher than recent history.

eh, i'm not saying, "no purchases have been legitimate christmas splurges." i'm just saying it's not the main reason prices are where they currently stand. gil companies are making millions and millions of dollars...there must be people buying that crap with rl benjamins. you don't think they would jump at the chance to seize a "holiday gil deal"? it's safe to say alot of transactions where made this christmas. by your argument, it's christmas...these people could get something nice for themselves too.

taking that into account, who do you think would be more willing to spend 14mil on a hauby, when the last sale seen was ~10mil a few days ago? the guy that rewarded himself this christmas by buying discounted gil...or the legitimate player that decided it would be a nice holiday gift for himself? i'm willing to bet that the honest guy that worked HARD for his gil knows that a 50% spike at +5mil gil is a bit excessive.

furthermore, some legitimate player that's been holding out on a hauby over the past few months and been really wanting it is probably at odds with paying the price 3 weeks ago (4-7mil). do you really think he's going to "splurge" and add in another 7mil just because it's christmas?

lol, I just tried to buy some Leather +1 gear for DRG... Wow, did that ever not work. Last price on the headband: 6k. Tried 20k, didn't buy it. Body piece: 20k, tried 40k, didn't buy it. In Sandoria right now to see if there's anything better HERE.

That is your opinion. If I was spending my real money for gil, I would be very tight with it. Maybe for some 12 year old whose parents bought it for him, might not properly value it, but a 20+ year old who worked for every dollar is going to put a very high value on the gil he paid for.

Agreed Rones, but hey my Grandpa wrote me a check for 100$ this christmas, didnt work for it. But I'd rather put that money to books, comp upgrades or ... alcohol fund. I dont see making gil as a hindrance to playing, I see it as part of playing so buying doesn't make sense to me and SE gets enough of my money.

my only question in all of this ruckus is why igqira weskit isn't sky rocketing? i know 6-8 people in the market for one and the price hasn't risen over the christmas season. the only blm exclusive gear that has is black cloak, snow rings... does this mean gilbuyers don't play blm? ^^d

I'm expanding a little on the gilseller theory...

Materials costs are usually at the root of any major price spikes in game. Yes, profiteering by people who already *have* the item tends to sustain such things, but if there are lots of materials around to make more (in the case of things that CAN be crafted at least) that tends to mitigate the spike somewhat.

But a lot of crafted items are reliant on NM drops to be created, and a number of the NMs that drop those items are presently under gilseller control.

That gets the background out of the way for now, so bear with the theory for a moment.

If you buy gil, the seller now has to go out and get more. The easiest way to do that is to try and hike prices on the AH. So if someone finds something they really want, buys gil to go and get it, item price gets hiked for the next person, next person buys *more* gil, item price gets hike, rinse repeat.

Big hole in this theory, i was discussing it with kyp the other day as FFXI came up in conversation. If you buy gil you have a high chance (higher than my recollection apperantly these days) of turning around and paying the bought gil right back to a gilseller. So basicly buying gil is the equivalent of taking your money, arranging it in a pretty circle, getting naked, and lighting it on fire. While you're not ALWAYS going to have this be the end result from the posts i've seen in this thread it sounds like if you're buying something worth a pretty penny you've pretty much consigned yourself to helping the gilsellers make more gil on top end items.

Now here's the real mindfuck: If you farm your gil to buy a top end item and do everything legit then turn around and buy from a gilseller are you just as bad for propigating it? Where's the line between physically helping them and fiscally helping them?

FFXI player run blackmarket ftw.

Buying gil is their way of striking a HQ or getting good drop that day, or claiming the NM that day. They don't care who they get gil from. They don't care who gets the gil they bought. It's still currency.

I know I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm pissed about it again. For weeks now I've been trying to buy the Blessed Briault; but because I'm a poor mofo I had to keep putting it off till I had enough. Well, three weeks ago it was at 1.8 million gil. Then last week, it was jacked-up to 2.3 million gil. This annoyed me greatly since it was the same time I had enough for the original price. But what they did pissed me off worse, I would see the same name selling the item and then buying the item... this obviously one person pushing the price himself and erasing the earlier AH sells.

So what do I see today on New Year's Eve? Same thing again by Krykichi, jacking the price to 3 million now. Happy New Year White Mages!!! Well, I simply cannot afford it again; but even if I did, I wouldn't pay at that price, out of principle.

Now I am sure this is not the only item in Auction House, I'm sure there are others that notice that certain individuals seem to control a particular item you may want. You cannot say these are gil sellers because that can't be proven; but what is known is that these are people that are monoplizing. So speak up, share your pain... maybe we can track them down and harrass them silly.

And people wonder why it cost 1k or more now for teleports, it's because we need to make gil for our overly-expensive spells and gear.

Tenchi: I know what it's like trying to save up for something as a whm. I've been there (and in some ways still there, despite that I craft now). I had the blessed jse body before I had Noble's and honestly I think it's a great piece.

The marked up price that you mentioned is actually about the price it used to be, believe it or not. It was also a bit newer then too, if I recall correctly. I know for a fact that I had entered every single bit of gil I had to try to get it.. same thing that happened to you.. happened to me.. so I run back to my mog house and something had just sold.. so I go back and try again. Score!

Couple days later I'm getting /tells 'San, you needed WHM JSE?' Me: "no".. 'Oh... we can't sell these cloths and need to get rid of them. lol.'

Time goes by, and I found myself doing the same ENMs that these cloths were dropping from. They're uncapped ENMs by the way that are do-able with 6 players after going through certain steps required. The cloth itself we'd sell for 1 mil. It would stay on AH long enough for the player to place it and return to the mog house. I think body takes more than one of these cloths. which automatically configures about 2mil (correct me if I'm wrong.. have not looked up the recipe).. Add in that the cloth has risen... and whatever the other materials are + a profit to the crafter = the price seems pretty logical to me and possibly a good deal to you. It is very much possible that the lower priced item you were seeing before were a combination of players getting nobles and reselling their blessed body or a crafter getting skill ups on the item and needing to drop the price to get his items to move.

I'll look up the recipe to be sure, but if it is what I think it is.. it seems that the item price is actually still at a loss to the person synthing it .
