lol I agree, I wanna know what respectable merit party takes a melee rdm over a mnk, sam, or war. RDM Dagger caps at... 220, and sword around 255 I wanna say.... So even with merit theres no way this guy is out doing a merit'd mnk or war.. A merit cannon gear'd nin could smoke a rdm lol... Damn you Lec for being right err narrow minded..
RDM's dagger and sword skill is the same. Both cap at 250.
That's so they can solo. I have higher base skill with club on whm than rdm has with sword or dagger, but I'd be an idiot to take off my healing staff for a club and whack away at the mob. Saying that they should be able to melee just because they have skill with a weapon is possibly the dumbest argument for letting jobs who shouldn't be meleeing engage. Yeah, you CAN do it, but it's selfish to do so, since you're going to be holding the party back solely for your own amusement. The reason why the things you're calling "bandwagon" are that way is because they're they best option. You're acting like no one has ever tried going rdm/nin in a party before and it's such a revelation that they can actually hurt a monster; it's been done, it's been proven to death to NOT be beneficial, please stop advocating it.
It's only going to be a successful party if you define it as "few to no deaths," but if you're going for the most exp/hour possible, it's not successful at all.
Well, technically, you could get a Templar's Mace instead of Healing Staff and whack away at the mob

But yes, it'd still be stupid to melee.
Personally, the only time I'd melee as a mage is soloing, or in some places in Salvage. All other places is a big no-no in my book. While yes, they
can, they
shouldn't.
I don't need to open my focus. If the Red Mage in question was not meleeing he would have done his job better. In turn that equates to increased experience points and a much more efficient party. There's no other way around it.
Like was previously said; this shit has been debated to death and has been proven wrong on countless occasions. There is no magical meleeing Red Mage that does his job to his maximum potential because he shouldn't be meleeing to begin with.
I won't start an argument about it again, but this is wrong... a RDM could do his job to 100% while still meleeing. Auto-attacking doesn't make it impossible to refresh, enfeeble, haste, heal etc. Additionally, you can't pull the "But then you can't /heal!" card, because a RDM does
not have time to /heal for over 20 sec at a time, unless he's neglecting part of his job.
that being said, no, I don't agree with meleeing RDMes. It is, however, fully possible to do.
I will never invite you to a party. You will be just adding TP to the mob and causing me to be taking more damage using more MP than needed.
Once again people prove their lack of knowledge of how TP works =/
And charlo, I highly doubt you can outdamage atleast a decent melee. Additionally, since the melees are tanking most of the time, the damage they take (or shadows that eat their attacks) reduces the hate they have. Since you never take hate normally, and cast spells such as buffs and cures, quite naturally you will take hate occasionally. If you're a WHM in a HNM fight or something, you pulling hate doesn't mean you've dealt more damage then others. Just because you happen to have more hate at the time doesn't mean you're doing more damage then the others. Hell, I pull hate on my COR all the time, doesn't mean I outdamage all other melees.
quieren hang on a min you are saying you would out dd me without food (because youd be tanking on colibri) and me eatting food. Your acc would suck unless you swapped out haste for acc reducing your att even more.
Hey maybe you would just about beat me as i would be casting but it wouldn't be by much.
Um, no. NIN have A- Katana skill, while RDM have B skill. That's a difference of 19 base skill. A NIN also have access to better meleeing gear. A NIN have a skill advantage, and a serious haste advantage, and also access to better melee gear. Assuming you both used identical gear (which I can assure you, you won't). But let's, for the same of argument, say you do, you would have slightly higher accuracy then him with food, yes. however, he would attack faster and harder, which puts damage in his favour. Stack it with better melee gear, then he would outdamage you by quite a lot. Most NIN's accuracy without food is around 90%. Hence why they use attack food. A MNK with A+ skill in weapons need even less accuracy gear then a NIN, and can focus even more on attack gear, hence putting them at a great advantage over you.
Hang on a min guys When the ???k did i say i could out dot EVERY person in the game with my rdm/nin lol. I'm saying i could out dot most if not merited or well geared.
Man you like making up arguements
Which only further proves our point. You could out DD them
if they are not well geared or well merited. I'm sure if I geared my WHM for meleeing I could outdamage a badly geared melee with no merits at all. That's not exactly something to be proud of.
The reason I hate meriting is because the majority of the melees LFG plain out sucks. All of the good players make parties with friends to avoid these morons.
