Yeah, the toilets are strange, I'm not exactly sure why, from what my Japanese teacher has told us about them, that it probably comes from the old style toilets in Japan and all over Asia, that were set over a stream of running water, or also hygenic reasons since you squat and not actually SIT on the seat. Plus apparently they're cheaper to make and use less water than Western toilets.

What baffles me though, is how most Japanese men pull down their pants to take a leak at urinals.

I've heard horror stories though from my teacher, about toilets in Japan since some are quite "advanced" with built in computers, and too many functions.
