Japanese text input?

Hello everyone. Quick question I have to ask.

I'm a fairly skilled Japanese speaker...but the problem is I don't know how to get bilingual text input in the game! Aaah! Does anyone know how to do this?

Do you mean the auto-translator or actual Kanji? Because auto-translator is just Tab on your keyboard, but for Kanji im not entirely certain..
 
Hrm.. i think he/she means actually typing the japanese text. As far as I know, you have to have the japanese version of the game to type in japanese.. though id assume you'd need a japanese keybord too.. wouldnt you?

There are some people who have both versions of the game, they're are the those people able to speak both languages. Its beneficial if you know the language.. just will cost you some extra $$ to pick up the Japanese version.
 
i always thought while signing up you could choose your language or something.. but you prolly would have to buy the japanese version. my friend jaredfromsubway is japanese but hes always on the english version. nicest japanese person ever!
 
you dont need a special Keyboard, however, there is a setting in windows to change the language that you type in...it DOES NOT make the text in ffxi change though.
 
well, that clears up some conclusions about typing japanese in general.

Thanks people! ^^; Appreciate the info. I'll look some more into it. I've just run into a lot of japanese players who I could communicate with but only if they could decipher romaji. Ah well, I'll figure something out.
 
actually there is a download out there that will allow you to convert your English version of FFXI POL to Japanese POL so you can type in Romaji and it will translate out in Kanji to others...involves downloading/installing and changing some registry settings though.

And I wont be releasing it here, shouldnt be that hard to find though.

im *attempting* to create a program that auto-translates roman <-> japanese characters as you go along, activated by pressing key combos and stuff in the background, not sure if this will work or not, e.g. typing in ko will come up with the japanese chacter :P

if you want me to tell you when its done just say :P
