http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news/local/Trenton-Woman-Who-Taunted-Dying-Girl-Now-Offers-Apology They simultaneously taunted a little girl and her 24 year old already dead mother, and now they're facing the wrath of just about everyone with a soul. 4Chan played a big part in acting on the necessary vengeance the law is still struggling to work on.

Wow, I have no words to describe just how utterly despicable these people are. An apology is too little too late, since it's really hard to believe that she means it. This bitch waited to apologize until after all the negative repercussions of her actions came to be.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

This is just heartbreaking.

There's a lot of things I could say but it all honesty it took a lot for me to get through the story.

I just hope they never have to go through the hell that they've put this poor little girl and her family through. And if they are god fearing people, I hope they lose sleep every night fearing they'll go to hell for their callus actions.

My heart bleeds for Kathleen.

E- I got out some anger on her Facebook page, along with the millions of others.

Spoiler:
Message to Jennifer Petkov;

As a mother, and you being a mother, you ought to be more than just ashamed. You need to live out the rest of YOUR years trying to make good for the EVIL that you've put on that poor family.

You are a waste of oxygen! I feel for your family, having to live and share their lives with a wench such as yourself!

You deserve nothing more than to waste away slowly and painfully. There is no apology that could ever make up for your actions.

SAD EXCUSE FOR A HUMAN.

I have some choice words for you. TWAT, WENCH, WHORE, CUNT, BITCH,

My only hope is when Kathleen breathes her last breath, there's no thoughts of the horror you've caused and just peace and love. Lets pray that your every waking moment is lived in pain for the sheer torment you've put this child through!

And I was sure to share a thought on the Edwards page

Spoiler:
I struggle to accept there are people such as those that share this world with angels such as your daughter. My heart goes out to Kathleen and her family through these dark times. If I could give her a hug from here I would!

I'm relatively certain that I'm not known for my humanity, but this genuinely made me want to throw up I'm so disgusted with this woman. To my understanding, the only thing the rest of her family did wrong was let her get away with all of this. I don't see where Scott was involved at all, just Jennifer. Quite frankly, I hope someone handles this bitch. She apologized now because of the huge media attention and the fact that it's ruining the lives of her husband and children as well as her own. I hope the husband divorces her and takes custody of the children. She'll never get employed because clearly she's the lowest of the low, and she can live out her life in regret as a homeless bum. Some people flat out deserve bad things to happen to them.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

Something like this happens and I just try to wrap my head around how in the hell someone could not only do these things in the first place, but justify to themselves that it is in any way acceptable behavior for a human being. No tact, no class, no humanity. And I don't know what's worse about it, that it happened in the first place, or that people that should have been counseling this woman that she was way, WAY out of line just went along with it. Silence in the face of something so heinous is no less disgusting than doing it yourself. Shame on that evil bitch, and shame on her husband for participating (and therefore encouraging). You reap what you sow, and I think it's pretty pathetic to apologize once the shit storm you created starts raining down on you. I hope they are prosecuted for harassment, and I really, in my heart of hearts, hope they get what's coming to them in a big, karmic way.

I can't believe people can treat each other like this. It is sick. Right now, the husband is on his way to losing his job because of this. I hope it is the start of a huge karmic snowball of life ruin-ness!

I'll be at this all day now =( I joined the hate train.

It's just sad. She has girls of her own, and honestly, they should be taken from her. Hate breeds hate, and she's obviously not a good or even decent role model for her children.

Someone needs to visit her and beat her near death, that STILL wouldn't be near enough suffering to match what she's done.

But the grandmother, Rebecca Rose, did not respond to the text quickly enough, she said. 'That's where it all started.'

Really? REALLY?

These people are wastes of oxygen. It shocks me that they have 4 kids of their own.

Yeah, over a lack of invite to a birthday party, just what the hell is wrong with this woman?! If she was mad at the grandmother, why didn't she just go fight it out with her? A slap fest, a few hair pulls, some name calling, ok thats fine and dandy if it's between adults. Why the hell sink to the level of making a terminally ill girl, who has a death sentence over her head, live hell on earth when she had nothing to do with the initial "insult" the Petkov's felt.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

Bolded for emphasis.

Way to take my meaning out of context.

'I joined the hate train', in case you misunderstood which you obviously have, I expressed my disgust with her actions along with the rest of the mob. I directed my anger at 1 key individual whom was responsible for terrorizing a child, not a group of people ignorantly or a child at a way of hurting another individual. But hey, if you want to somehow group me in with the bigots, racists, fanatics and douchebags that heartlessly use children to get to others like this women, by all means. I've not gone out of my way to make someones life miserable, I've not acted in revenge or to 'burn someone's ass'. I'm not vindictive either. All of which are hateful acts.

I do not "hate" like the saying, I don't spread hate, I don't rejoice in hating others and I most certainly don't want nastiness hurting my or my family, so yeah I may very well get pissed at disgusting human beings. I don't like too much negativity surrounding my day to day and that will be the emphasis when raising my daughter, or any children I have. I discuss on forums, with other people that seem to want to discuss the same topics.

btw - if you don't have something productive to contribute, kindly F-off picking at me.

E- this would be a good time for you to say whatever the fuck it was you were getting at... if anything.

So I'm guessing you feel nothing in regards to the atrocities committed by this woman? At least I think so, seeing as to how thats all you took from Cheeb's post.......

Am I riled up enough to post an overtly aggressive, or even a passive aggressive, message on her social networking site? Hell no. Ignorant morons like the the two mentioned in this story exist everywhere, have existed at probably every point in time of human history, will continue to exist until the extinction of homo sapiens sapiens, and come in a variety of colors, if you will, that would give the hexadecimal palette a run for its money. Although I have never met the young girl to whom these attacks were directed, I am confident enough in her capacity for forgiveness, compassion, and maturity, that I would be willing to stake my life on such a claim. Individuals who go through situations such as hers, especially children, tend to show the rest of the world what it really means to be a good person. More often than not, they handle themselves with a dignity and grace that can only be described as sublime. This is because people who know their time is running out truly understand and appreciate what it means to not only be alive, but to live While I am certain she experienced justifiable outrage and emotional trauma, I'm quite certain that those feelings were quickly replaced with pity. Pity for individuals who just don't get "it" and live such shallow and meaningless lives. That little girl takes comfort, as do I, in the fact that every morning she wakes up, she has done more to inact a positive change in the world around her in her short live, than those two will ever accomplish even if they live to be 100 years old.

This is why I take exception to the following statements:

I'll be at this all day now =( I joined the hate train. It's just sad. She has girls of her own, and honestly, they should be taken from her. Hate breeds hate, and she's obviously not a good or even decent role model for her children. The first quote clearly contradicts the second quote. As does the following:

Someone needs to visit her and beat her near death, that STILL wouldn't be near enough suffering to match what she's done.

First of all, you definitely went out of your way to spread your message. Secondly, your comments clearly indicate that you not only want to "make things right," you want this person to suffer. I can only speak for myself, but I think others would agree that the desire to want someone to suffer is a consistent characteristic of hate. So tell me, how does that make you any better than the Petkovs? Like you, they weren't merely seeking to redress a wrong (not arguing if any wrong had even been done), they wanted this little girl to suffer. Are they slightly different degrees? Absolutely, but they're still two sides of the same coin.

Also, you specifically mention that hate breeds hate and that as a mother, you do not want to emphasize negativity when it comes to raising your child? Please explain to me how responding to negativity, with negativity, is justifiable with this position? I would be a little more understanding if it was your daughter who had been insulted because of the intense emotional investment in the situation, but you don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak.

You also state that you "discuss on forums, with other people that seem to want to discuss the same topics." I'm sorry, but what you did was definitely not confined to mere discussion. Now you're an activate participant in the situation. That being said, if you had stopped with just this:

As a mother, and you being a mother, you ought to be more than just ashamed. You need to live out the rest of YOUR years trying to make good for the EVIL that you've put on that poor family...My only hope is when Kathleen breathes her last breath, there's no thoughts of the horror you've caused and just peace and love.

I would have had absolutely no problem with your statements about not wanting to spread hate or negativity.

Since this post is already quite lenghty, I also want to raise another question to you that carries over from another thread. According to Reya, I assume there is information out that the Scott Petkov will be losing his job over all of this, which I have no problem with; when you're an employee you're part of a team and how you carry yourself in all aspects of your life can, and does, reflect upon the team. That being said, in another thread you argued against employers using information gleaned from social networking sites to make hiring/firing decisions. Now what Scott Petkow engaged in, while socially reprehensible, is also legal and occurred during his "off time." Based on your previous comments in this thread, I can only assume that you also agree that he should lose his job, but I would like to hear how you reconcile your two positions based on these three premises: actions were legal, actions did not occur at the workplace or while "on duty," actions came to light (nationally since I cannot speak for the local news) via the internet.

Now, to close I return to the opening of this post. I do not see what, if anything, can be accomplished by lashing out against the Petkovs. These people obviously do not have very good judgement, nor do they seem to be the type of people who can think beyond themselves. From my experience, these types of people do not generally "learn," if you will, from mass indignation directed towards them. Usually they just become defensive and lash out even more before trying to fade away into obscurity, yet still retaining the same fundamental flaws that caused the original fiasco. From what I understand of the story, the Petkov's apology wasn't forthcoming until this became such a big deal, which definitely calls into question their actual contriteness. I think most psychologists would agree that human beings typically respond much better, with regards to behaviorial change, to positive stimuli. Like you said, hate tends to breed hate. Want to shun them and hold them up as example as how not to act towards people? I can get behind that as well, so long as there a chance for redemption, provided it's a sincere effort on the part of the Petkovs. No, rather than wasting my time on them by stooping to their level, I'd rather tip my cap to the little girl and use her as an example of how to react when ignorant morons try to hurt you with words. Socrates often argued that no good man can ever truly suffer harm from an evil person. That's a sentiment I tend to agree with, and I am pretty sure that if you asked that little girl, she would agree too.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

I didn't go 'out of my way', there are links all over Facebook which took nothing but one simple click to view. And the many thoughts that ran through my head were quite easy to post which was most certainly part of a discussion. Perhaps you should be more thorough before concluding. I shared my thoughts on a topic we were all a part of.

I do not discuss matters such as this with or around any children, therefore I cannot be passing, teaching or breeding hate if around the unimpressionable (yes I'll make up words too), like adults. There's no doubt her children were well aware of the chaos their mother had created.

I have not uttered death threats, as I mentioned in another post on FB, that would be far to easy a sentence for such a disgrace of a person. She should suffer, people like her do not learn without similar experience. SHE should. Not her children, not even her husband even though he did nothing to stifle his wifes taunting.

Hate breeds hate, that put simply means adults who conceive and spread their unjust views, whether it be racist/bigoted/discriminative or sexist in any form. I won't allow even the most 'commonly used' derogatory words to be muttered around my child. I was raised to believe that it is completely inappropriate to bring children into adult matters.

And if you really want to pick the crap out of what I say (I'm not as well written as half the people that frequent this site but I stand by my beliefs regardless), fine, I HATE low life worthless rats. They do not deserve to share the oxygen the rest of us decent humans breath. That still does not mean I breed hate. Again I'll say I didn't go out of my way, I wasn't vindictive, and my words were not to get revenge but to come to defense of a young girl and I'm not even trying to 'make her life miserable'. I'm sure she's done a fine job herself.

As far as the other thread is concerned, this is the wrong place for your inquiry, but I will answer it. I have not pointed a finger at Scott Petkov, nor have I even mentioned jack about him losing his job. FB is most CERTAINLY not the only medium where he's mentioned, so it's quite likely his boss was aware of his participation if any in this situation. Do I feel badly for him? No. Would I believe 1 page on FB that paints him as the man is is without any other proof ie; the multiple news reports/interviews and articles, NO. Why? Because FB is populated by every walk of life, and you have to be some naive tool to believe every group created is legit. Also, the discussion and the point I was attempting to drive home is it not right for an employer to search out crap on an employee and come to a conclusion on their working value.

And I'll tell you what, it's pretty big of you to pick at someones post in a discussion you had no intention on participating in without elaboration.

I'm not religious in any way shape or form, but I believe in karma. And to come to the defense of a dying child imo is not spreading hate, it's bringing awareness to the wrong doers in our society and this problems WITH our society.

While there is the literal “out of your way,” referring to spatial distance and/or extraneous effort, there is also the more metaphorical meaning which refers to doing something that you would not normally have done during your day, something which obviously happened in this case. I was speaking more of the second one, but I’ll concede the issue as I should have been more precise in my meaning.

I have not uttered death threats, as I mentioned in another post on FB, that would be far to easy a sentence for such a disgrace of a person.
While technically true, what you did say could very easily be construed as “a punishment worse than death.” So if the punishment you wish to inflict is worse than death, then claiming that you never uttered a death threat is rather irrelevant.

I do not discuss matters such as this with or around any children, therefore I cannot be passing, teaching or breeding hate if around the unimpressionable (yes I'll make up words too), like adults. There's no doubt her children were well aware of the chaos their mother had created.
The vast majority of human communication is nonverbal. Also, I know from my own experience that negativity tends to seep into other aspects of your life in ways that we often are completely unaware of until something gives us pause and causes us to examine things. Please understand that this is not any kind of statement about your parenting skills; rather, it’s a statement about the sentiment.

I'm sure she's done a fine job herself.
I bolded the above because that is where I feel that our difference of opinion lies. In my opinion, it’s also unjust to go beyond merely redressing grievances, and to enter into the realm of suffering. In this case, there was nothing illegal which took place so there can be no legal recourse where damages/penalties are determined by a court; therefore, the most that could be done would be to make them social outcasts and go on about the business of decent human beings while still offering a course of redemption should they ever come to their senses. As soon as you go beyond that boundary, I feel that you have crossed the line of mere defense and have gone on the offensive.

Also, you mentioned in a previous post that the little girl is supposedly unaware of everything that happened. If that’s the case, then she doesn’t need anyone to come to her defense. I mean if you don’t know that someone wishes you would “hurry up and die,” then how would them having that opinion of you have any effect on you? If you’re coming to the defense of the grandmother and other family members who are aware of the things being said and done, I fail to see how they require any defense given that they seem to be functioning adults. If you want to call it offering up moral support, okay, I can buy that except I don’t think that directing hateful comments at the other party qualifies as moral support.

As far as the other thread is concerned, this is the wrong place for your inquiry, but I will answer it. I have not pointed a finger at Scott Petkov, nor have I even mentioned jack about him losing his job. How is this the wrong place? This thread has a real-world application of the arguments presented on the other thread. As far as where the information came from, that is irrelevant, in my opinion. The same facts are still present—nothing illegal was done and it occurred outside of any kind of work environment. In my opinion, Facebook is just a much a part of the internet as Wikipedia, neither of which are private mediums. The internet is merely the digital equivalent of a library and any page contained therein is now at least partially a part of the public domain. It wouldn’t matter if this guy’s boss had read about it on QCDN, or in the newspaper, heard about from someone at church, or saw it on the local television news. The guy is embarrassed to be associated with Scott Petkov for activities he engaged in outside of work so he’s showing him to the curb.

And I'll tell you what, it's pretty big of you to pick at someones post in a discussion you had no intention on participating in without elaboration.
Fair enough. My first post in this thread was right before I left for work, so I didn’t put any effort into a lengthy evaluation. I will say that I made post hoping to generate more discussion, and knowing that if that discussion were generated that I would have to come back and give a more intelligible response. Again, it was not so much a personal attack against you as an individual, but rather against a position.

And to come to the defense of a dying child imo is not spreading hate, it's bringing awareness to the wrong doers in our society and this problems WITH our society.
I could agree with this if I didn’t feel that what you did went well beyond this. To me, raising awareness isn’t going around and posting desires that the perpetrator suffer for the rest or their lives or be beaten to the point of being near death. Raising awareness would be more akin to going around and using this situation as a teaching tool for others on how not to act towards others, particularly terminally ill children who had no hand in the original provocation of this whole mess. Not to mention the fact that what you did do, did not raise awareness one iota. How does posting on the Facebook page of someone who is already an active participant, raise awareness for others?

While I agree with you that people who act like the Petkovs are a problem to civilized society, I also feel that returning tit-for-tat is an additional problem with society. To me, it’s not very far removed from the idea of bombing for peace. If you want to look at it in a different context, examine history. Very, very rarely in human history has any kind of battle or contest been won by standing toe-to-toe with an adversary and using the exact same tactics. In my opinion, if you want to enact meaningful change in the world, you have to first change how people think about a situation.

Finally, I can only assume that this is directed towards me specifically:

unimpressionable (yes I'll make up words too)
So I am curious, to which words are you referring? Going back over my post I noticed that I used misspelled “enact” as “inact” and used “live” instead of “life” in the first paragraph.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

Wow. I find it funny when someone comes out of the wordwork to be an asshole about something like this. These people were clearly scum of the earth, but yeah, let's drill Cheebs for a perfectly normal reaction to something vile. Are you trying to say this twat is an excellent role model to her children?... You know, the ones getting crap at school now because their mother is a petty, vindictive nutjob? And regarding the husband - he was the dumb fucker screeching around up and down the street in that death-mobile bullshit, dragging a coffin behind him and honking his horn and acting like a total jagoff. Thanks to his wife, her facebook antics and her repulsiveness are all over the media. Somehow I think that much media attention is just cause for suspension or termination, as he was a part of it. I don't think they went trolling facebook, I think any idiot can turn on the news and see the mess they created. There's no way to avoid negative exposure there.

Not to speak for Cheebs or anything, but yeah... Evil people doing evil things incites negative response. Stop the presses. Newsflash: there's a big difference between expressing anger (rightly) to someone regarding their unthinkable behavior and attacking a 7 year old terminally ill child and her dead mother to get at the grandmother over some idiotic shit that no one cares about (no one with an ounce of sanity anyway). If you can't tell the difference, then I don't know what to tell you other then that's a pretty fucked up way of looking at things.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

This is very simple. I'm not going to defend myself in such a way that you're probably hoping.

To HATE someone for acts like she has committed is perfectly natural. Hate breeding Hate is completely different altogether, but you can continue to point out the flaws in my post to somehow make it seem like I'm no better a person which btw is pretty friggin ignorant considering what it is that's brought that kind of reaction from me in the first place!

And for the very last time I will say, I DO think she should suffer one way or another, and if she's the type that never learns lessons she should suffer for the rest of her waking years. Whether it be in the form or a degenerative disease herself, or jail time, or a criminal record that tarnishes her chances at a successful working life. She is a terrible role model. If a mother would go to such ends to hurt another grown womans feelings without dealing directly with said person, who's to say she wouldn't use her children against her husband should they bitterly break ties, or use other children that share school time with her children to get back at one of their parents that disagreed with her at a school meet. Yeah, she's a great role model and I'm just as bad because I think karma should hit her 1000x fold, bad bad Crystal.

And if someone were to meet her on the street one day and beat her down I still would not feel bad for her, especially considering the nasty attitude that came out of her dirt trap when asked about her comments, she has it coming one way or another. I've seen many a street fight over much less, plain stupidity and punkish behaviour, what she did to this little girl (whether she's fully aware of it or not) is unjust. And what she COULD get and what I wishe she would get would be JUSTICE served.

E- and in case you haven't figured this out yet, I believe that some people NEED a good smacking around from time to time, there are A LOT of people who need a good smacking about. I'm not afraid to be the giver in such circumstances when it affects me. But I wouldn't ever support the behaviour in my child until she was old enough to make her own conclusions on others. Nor would she ever see her mother in a situation like that. She will never see me punch a bitch in the face, it may happen, but she won't be hearing about it until years later when she herself could conclude on whether it was appropriate or not.

I'm a firm believer that everyone needs to be educated and given freedom to come to their own with sensitive subjects, not forced to swallow someone elses thoughts, beliefs or feelings on a subject or person.

Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you

To Zyndara: I never claimed that their actions were not reprehensible. What I do claim is that there are far more productive ways to deal with something like this than posting things like, "I hope you suffer for the rest of your worthless life" on their Facebook page. Is that going to change what happened? Is it going to prevent something similar from happening to someone else in the future? People who behave the way the Petkovs behaved don't have the same thought-process as most other people; therefore, I don't think the fear of being ostracized by the community at large is much of deterrent for individuals such as these. I agree that it's normal to be outraged, what I don't agree is normal is making it a specific point to go on the attack yourself, especially when you're not even directly involved in the situation.

What I take exception with is when a person holds the position that "hate breeds hates," but then also engages in hateful behavior. Are the Petkovs actions more reprehensible than, for example, what Morcheeba posted on her Facebook? Yes, but, in my opinion, they are cut from the same cloth--hate. In the end, nothing is productive is accomplished. Perhaps this will be a terrible analogy, but I will go with it anyway.

Take the whole "war on terror." Do you feel any more or less safe today, October 14th, 2010 than you did on September 10th, 2001? I sure as hell don't. I live 17 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City. A place where a white male, who was a U.S. citizen decided that he was going to blow up a building to get his point across. Was the U.S. justified in defending itself after 9/11? Yes. Was the U.S. justified in the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq based on the notion of "pre-emptive" strikes? I say no. In my opinion, the justifiable actions of the United States' are limited to securing national borders against terrorists and to offering support to citizens of a foreign nation who seek to overthrow the despotic regime of their own country or citizens who wish to work with the U.S. to curb extremists within their borders. It wasn't as if the nations of Afghanistan and Iraq had declared open war on the United States. In fact, most of the hijackers were Saudi Arabian citizens; therefore, I feel that the United States crossed the lines of justifiable defense and entered the realm of open aggression. Now, more than 9 years later, what has changed? The U.S. is still as open to a handful to extremists inflicting bodily harm to citizens within the U.S. borders as it was prior to 9/11. The same people who hated us on Sept. 10th, 2001 still hate us today for the same reasons and probably additional reasons as well. While the lives of some of the people in Afghanistan and Iraq are probably better now that the U.S. has occupied parts of their country, the lives of many other innocent people are either worse, have experienced no change, or have been lost. In my opinion this end is not justified by the means; the net gain for the peace, safety, and stability of everyone involved has been 0, at best.

This is why I have a problem with compatibility of the position "hate breeds hate" and then participating in similar behavior; again, the net gain is 0. To me, while the analogy presents a much more extreme situation, it doesn't change the fact that the mentality is fundamentally the same. You don't usually win hearts and minds to your cause by going out and inflicting violence, physical or verbal. You win hearts and minds to your cause by using ideas and changing people's mind to look at the world in the same way that you look at the world.
