Re: Jennifer and Scott Petkov @ terminally ill 7 year old girl: "Can't wait till you
You don't usually win hearts and minds to your cause by going out and inflicting violence, physical or verbal. You win hearts and minds to your cause by using ideas and changing people's mind to look at the world in the same way that you look at the world.
I happen to disagree.
At one point a couple weeks back my bf and I were lead to believe that a MMA fighter, Roger Huerta, had accidentally killed a man after getting into a brawl and knocking him out. The reason for his aggression and violence was because this 6+ foot massive brick wall of a man sucker punched a woman from behind flattening her outside a club.
At first to watch the fight video we (including my mother and father) were all in agreement that this man had it coming, to get knocked the out by none other than a professional bare knuckling it. Why? Because his actions called for it. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It didn't effect Roger directly. That was his humanity screaming at him. Like it does a lot of people. Most are taught not to pick on others smaller than them, now even though size really doesn't matter (just like in this case), there are still many situations where that value, that lesson applies.
Shortly after learning of the street fight, we got bad info stating the coward had actually died from the punch he received, and we automatically backed the MMA fighter in what would have been his battle. He probably would have been a stand up guy (seeing as he obviously acts the part) and taken whatever repercussions he'd face. That doesn't mean there wouldn't be a nation, if not more people, in support of his actions trying to help him every step of the way, even though it resulted directly from physical violence. Why? Principal and principal alone. He was fighting for the greater good. It doesn't make him no better than the douche that got his face broken.
I'm no christian, so don't expect me to act as such. Maybe my path to greater good is paved a little differently than yours, and I don't think I'm alone in that.
The long and short of it is, she'll get hers. Whatever form it may come in she'll more than deserve it.
