Mom always said "If you can't say something nice about someone, keep your damned mouth shut," so I won't comment too much on Falwell's death. Instead, I'll just share these pics:

I have a feeling that this will turn out to be one of those "I'm glad he's dead." threads. I hope he changes his views in the afterlife.

Sadly this probably isn't the end of Falwell. I'm sure he's left behind a whole stable of ignorant white trash mornons to carry on his "legacy".

I had a conversation with a coworker about this, and his feeling on the matter was that no matter how much he personally disliked Falwell, the man had at least stuck by his convictions and been relatively true to them his entire life, and that that merited at least some respect.

My opinion was somewhat different. HITLER had his convictions and stuck by them to the end, that still doesn't make him someone I can respect. I, therefor, feel no particular remorse in my joy that yet another impediment to the social advancement of mankind has croaked in a thorougly ignominious fashion.

Well, unless you like Jerry Falwell's beliefs, it's the same thing just more extreme. You don't like what they're saying, but you respect that they're sticking to their beliefs and not being so weak they change their beliefs to whatever is popular.

I don't think anyone deserves respect for continuing to be a bigot, racist, small minded fool. If changing one's belief to "whatever is popular" means an idiot realizes "Hey, maybe I should worry more about myself and less about judging people and things I don't know a goddamn thing about", then good. That would actually merit some respect.

Unfortunately, Falwell (and his brother-in-ire Pat Robertson) were fully merited in idiocy.

I'm glad that Falwell's dead. One less racist, homophobic bigot taking up my oxygen.

Oh, and if that's not all...Fred Phelps plans to protest at his funeral. A kind of ironic justice if you ask me. :evilsmile:
