Job Adjustments and Additions Part I (03/26/2009)

hmm maybe they'll add something fun to blm too, really just something along the lines of Stoneskin so we can sub sch for so many more situations would be fine.

kind of suprised they didn't decrease the casting time for blindna, takes forever ><.

oh and I'll bet they find a way to make pup weaker, while attempting to boost it.

I'm hoping for a DRG move that's somewhat full-time spirit surge. Maybe give em a triple jump > > lol...

Give Rdms endark and enholy, Tier 2 enspells , (similar to what I suggested for Mystic Knight)

You know what I really wanted to see though? Barlightra and Bardarkra lol
But I can't complain :O this is way better.

I always thought it would be cool to give mages TP as they cast their spells. How much based on the cast time. Just something to mix things up you know. Give them maybe a mini elemental seal for black mages that uses TP or something.

Man... If there's another update like this for PLD or DRK, that (coupled with the incredibly awful turn my life took recently) might be enough to bring me back.

You and me both man. After loosing my mom and now in a situation where I might loose my grandma, I'm going to NEED a way to escape the situation. Thanks SE!

Curious - Why does everyone assume because one job gets a bunch of good updates, that all jobs will lol?

I mean, obviously they just revamped WHM, probably to make it more bearable, a job that hasn't had an update for a long ass time. What makes you guys think that they'll add on to jobs that already have it good (SAM for one) :dur: - especially when a lot of jobs in the past have recieved updates, and a lot of them left untouched (Hi thar SMN)?

I don't know about this, its almost a slap in the face to Dancer's. WHM is already pretty proficient in meleeing to an extent for soloing at 75, not as well as DNC by any means, and while I don't truly understand the effects of both Afflatus abilities, it seems like it make a even further gap between what DNC can do healing wise and what WHM can. If DNC is at all supposed to heal moderatly close to a whm, the least SE can do it stop imposing a uniform waltz recast timer and make them slightly better healers.

I'm not saying these aren't good buffs though and I'm happy for WHMs! Just seems like they should help out the "front line healer."

Take that SCHs!

lol :P take what?

Just means SCH does not have to spam Accession + [debuff removal spell] all the time on mobs that like to AoE enfeebs all day long. Now SCH can save Accession for buffing assistance and cures.

I love this change for my WHM.

This just separates WHM from SCH and gives WHM it's healing edge back.

I wanna test all this out in campaign for kicks.

Bold: there's your problem right there, DNC isn't meant to be as effective a healer as a white mage. NO ONE IS. That's their sole purpose, it's what they excel at doing, so no one should be as good as they are. Over the last few years, RDM, and more recently scholar, has almost made whm's obsolete unless you needed stona. This update is bringing them back to the foreground for healing, making them they unequivocal best, where they should be.

The problem is that the way the game is structured, only "the best" of any role gets invited to parties. So if RDM is a better healer for level 41-65, WHM gets the shaft. It's not like they can do anything else. Similarly, if WHM now becomes the best healer at 75, DNC gets screwed. Because players always want to maximize party efficiency, it becomes very difficult to get anything done unless you have 5-6 different jobs. Which may be part of SE's plan, but it's damn frustrating to a casual player who can only put in 2 hours a night, and maybe 3-4 on weekends.

This is why WoW is a juggernaut and FFXI is a Tarutaru. WoW is not the better game, but it is the more accessible one. Updates like this one would be mostly meaningless in WoW, except for the seriously hardcore PvPers.

Obviously I don't know squat about the end game or how dynamics change, but it seems you'd have basically the same problem. Hence the elation/recrimination surrounding updates like this, depending on which side of the divide you fall on.

No, just... no.

You're right, it is obvious. This isn't going to screw other jobs, RDM/DNC will not suddenly lose the ability to heal with this update, only the best healing job will finally be the best healing job again. RDM will still be desirable for exp, since they bring refresh and dispel; along with a much "larger" and easily sustainable mp pool. DNC will still get invites, since they actually add a little bit of damage while healing, and have pretty nice buffs/debuffs.

This is not going to have some monumental change in how the game is played; it just provides a bonus to WHM's and their ability to heal. This will benefit everybody but morons who never use WHM's.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but some people are saying that the japanese version of this makes it sound that Esuna will only work if the WHM himself has a status effect on them. So I guess it will work much better with Sacrifice.

Hell yes and but damn I have to move around ALL my whm macro's now to make it fit perfect. Double edged sword but sooo worth it.

Just read the update for range and mp and once again, HELL YES. I hated having to run in to cast Martyr.

You know what would be pure awesomeness?

If Sacrifice transfers Terror and Amnesia.

If its true that the WHM himself need to have the enfeeble you wish to remove on him, that does kind of reduce its usefulness somewhat, but it is still a very nice spell for the times you do need it.

edit: someone mentioned it earlier in this thread. Is this what you meant?

At the risk of being an attention whore

Tempyst - FFDJ

Apostasy - 33% of physical damage taken is converted into Agony.
Sanctum - Heal a target for an amount of HP in proportion to Agony.

- Afflatus Misery
(Lv40 Ability Delay: 1 min. Duration: 2 hrs.)
Inspires you to draw strength from the damage you take.
- Cura (Lv40)
Restores HP for party members within area of effect.
Casting Cura while Afflatus Misery is activated grants a potency bonus to the spell based on the most recent damage you sustain.

Along with a few other similarities, I wonder if SE had read up on the BG job contest entries for ideas
So, basically, with the Pain one on, if the last hit you took was a 500 damage hit, your next Cura or Banish spell will do an additional 165 HP/damage and then reset to 0?

Not as good as I'd have hoped, but still awesome. Should we assume that the other one works in a similar way, adding something like 10% of your Cure spells to your next cure spell (cumulative)? I mean, 33% of Cure spells seems a bit strong, but I assume it is possible. I guess it all depends on how high/low the supposed cap is. Knowing SE and their inability to give us good things its probably rather low. But I suppose that is countered by their awesome idea of giving Cure spells an additional Stoneskin effect.

I'd assume the cap is different on different levels of Cure as well, otherwise you'd run the chance of Cure being insanely strong if spammed... Albeit only for less then 1 minute, so maybe not.

The most awesome part about this is that they're on a 1 min duration with a 2 min recast duration, so when one runs out you can activate the other.

edit: oh wait, FUCK. The duration is 2 hours, not 2 minutes. I read it as 2 minutes 'cause I couldn't possibly imagine SE being that nice... Now I just came again. nvm the above then I guess.

Yeah, the Afflatus JA's are stances, kinda of like WHM versions of the SCH's Light Arts & Dark Arts

Wonder what level they are though. 40?

I mean, if they're before 38, it makes it somewhat counterproductive since I assume SE gives this to WHM to make them the best healers again as they were tied/slightly behind SCH's in most cases. If they gave it to WHM before 40, SCH could go SCH/WHM and become even better healers with AoE Cura III Stoneskin.

I would assume the stances are 40+ since all the new spells that correspond with them are all 40+ as well.

Afflatus Solace
(Lv40 Ability Delay: 1 min. Duration: 2 hrs.)
Inspires you to draw strength from the healing spells you cast.

Afflatus Misery

Both listed on front page and POL link with levels, as well as spell levels.

Oh, didn't see the level on them.

And yeah, thought it would be 40 for the same reason.

Well, i guess that answers the question there, lol. I didn't bother looking back at the page for confirmation. I just answered Uzor's question from stuff I remembered from reading it earlier when it got posted.
