(I was looking to start a conversation on the job variety choices, and such.. but ok)

So lets start one here?

I'm suprised that brd is only at 3%, I always thought there were a lot of bards. But I'm more suprised that PLD and WAR aren't a little higher.

Bards are actually considerably unpopular with alot of people. Not many people get hooked with the whole, singing and playing an instrument type thing. And I mean, I've done /sea all brd before, and most of the time, less than 35 people show up on the job.

And it's a WONDER why they get picked up so fast for parties! Wow! /sarcasmoff

Yeah, you're probably right. Now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I had a BRD in my pt. I mostly see them standing in clusters somewhere in a town, all singing or playing the same instrument.

I do find it hard to believe there are more WHM than BLM though.

lol well, since there are so few, it is a wonder how they get parties so fast. I mean, I get party invites when I have /anon on now. >.< How do you people know I'm a 60 Bard who has CoP and not ToAU?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I mean, I got a /tell the other day, saying:

"{Party} {Do you need it?}"
"{/wait] You don't have {Aht Urgan}, do you?"

I reply:

"{/no} How did you know that?"

S/he said:

"Someone told me you didn't. Only if you had it though, we coulda really used your songs."

I was like, {Huh?!}

"How did you know I was a Bard?"

"I remember partying with ya a while back."

It scares me to think that people stalk Bards now for parties. ; ;

Maybe our server is unique.. but according to the pie chart, whm is the most popular. I don't know about you all, but when I go to build a party, whm's seem scarce... and if there were so many whm's then smn's wouldn't get stuck playing main heal.. I can't tell you how many times I got stuck main healing as blm and rdm ....

also... if they want paladin to be the primary tank as they stated in earlier interviews, conferences,etc.. they need to do something to make the job a little more appealing to the masses..

I still feel when the new jobs were released, they should have included a new "tank". We have plenty of support jobs, and 2 refreshers. Don't get me wrong, I love having a Corsair in the party with me, and I enjoy the puppetmaster job thus far... but it seems puppetmaster isn't as popular as it was when it was first announced. Maybe they can tweak the job to become the new tank position. With strobe, and flashbulb I think, the little booger holds hate from me pretty well.. but then again I'm just a lvl 11 taru pup/mnk.

who knows, I appreciate the fact that the game is ever evolving... though I still dread any potential nerf to my main (blm).

Also I guess we should take into account their method of coming up with this pie chart.. I think they looked at each individual character, and counted lvl 2 or better towards the job choices. I wonder how accurate this can be, as it would be very difficult without a survey what everyone's "Main" is. Taking that into account.. would make sense that whm is so high, as many jobs take advantage of a whm sub, whether it be for purposes of solo'ing, back-up curing, or even just for the tele's. just as a point of reference I'll list the jobs I can think of offhand that use the whm sub.

smn, blm, rdm, brd, bst, mnk, drg, and now blu.

maybe's it's a time frame thing..

I'm dealing with lvl 70+ around 6-7ish pm cst until around midnight.

Well, prime time is usually 3 PM and 6 PM on the EST as I have seen. I mean, I'm a 60, so it may be different than at 70+.

I hear that. ::shudder::

Thats a really good point. A lot of people level WHM to sub for a lot or reasons (well, I guess only two, partying and soloing, ...whatever), so I guess it would make sense that that's the most used job. Rep up for you.

LoL, thanks Pasquale.

generally speaking, when I'm trying to build a party of late.. it's always one or the other that prevents from completing a necessary party ingredient....

Usually I can find a tank pretty readily, but sometimes they're the missing link... and regardless of exp pt type.. (cept manaburns or cannons) a tank is always necessary...

Then, there's the healer. Taking smn to 34, and retiring whm (temporarily) at 68 due to burnout, I sympathize with summoners being asked to main heal....

Then, there's the refresher. Currently I prefer brd, or cor for the added benefits, but it's ironic that neither job appeals to me for lvl'ing. I've lvl'd rdm to 61, and enjoy it,

Regardless.. with the new expansion areas including refresh sanction, and pld's newly acquired auto-refresh, along with the mages ability to sub smn, or wear refresh'ing gear... parties are still adamant about having a refresher. I understand their want as a blm, and as a whm.. but am not going to stop exp'ing, or flag back up simply because there is a lack of a refresher's presence in the party. I think SE has made steps to reduce the player's idea that a refresher is necessary.
Yes, I'm aware that it does reduce downtime, and assists against tougher mobs that may sometimes normally exhaust a mage's mp pool. It has it's place, and is a wonderful addition to any exp pt that involves me... but.. a party can and often does succeed without them. I'm not trying to start an anti-bard/rdm thread, as I've rarely encountered situations where bards turned their nose up at me, but it has happened.. and even more rare, but still present in my memory is having red mages do the same. They're aware they can get a party faster, and more readily... they've developed the knowledge that they can be picky on the party setup, and the people in it. I think SE is taking great steps in making the "exp party" more flexible in the stance it doesn't have to be the cookie-cutter party we've all grown to expect.
They've added job traits, a new support job, and new areas including gear and sanction.

I figured brd was somewhat of a seldom picked job, but besides the whm numbers, I assumed the straight out melee DD's were the more common choices. I thought there would be many more monks , andwar/nins. and going with the whm statement I made in the earlier post.. shouldn't there be far more ninjas ?

so let's add this to the discussion.

Yea, when I saw that Ninja number, I was like, yea right. If they did the same thing with WHM and using that as a sub, then it is the same with NIN. NIN is subbed for COR, BLU, WAR, RNG, THF, DRK, and a few other jobs, in partying, ballista, ect. No way could it be that low.

this chart only constitutes the MAIN job right? so how does it determine that when i have 4 75's? lol

Hence what we've been talking about WHM. Apparently, I guess those are the most used jobs. But it makes no sense to me whatsoever. Many people level up sub jobs, and take their main to 75. Then, they take a new job up to 75. How does SE determine which is their main? They can't. So, they see your jobs, and group you with the group that is biggest. Because I can guarantee some of those jobs numbers can't be right.

Thats a good point, too. So does that mean there are really more WHMs than anything else? I'll admit that lately it has been easier to form parties and find all the pieces, but it still seems like a kinda high number.

As for the level chart, I like the peak at 37, all those capped sub jobs...

Darth, rdm has as much benifits as cor or brd.

Latly, and over all time, it's always the damn healer that breaks my pt's. You don't want to know how many times I've come just a healer shy of a badass pt. It's really really annoying, and to be honest it's slowly killing the game. According to everyone, the only healer is whm, and they are getting scarcer despite what S-E says. I've had way more rdm and smn healers the past 50 levels then I have I'd care for, even though they are excellant healers.
