I am working mid-shift now for a few months which only puts me online early mornings or late nights when my only option for a party is Japanese. Which should be a good thing because as a general rule they rock!
However this i've found isn't the case... even with JP/EN pty ok in my search comment they WILL NOT let me play with them, or if i try to start a party they won't join up if not JP. I guess this is just a general statement, but if i had to make it a question.... WHY?!? all i ask is one chance, if you think the pty sucks, you can drop, but at least give a brotha a chance!

jp onry :lol:
the truth is, people dont want to put up with dual language partys because it makes things a WHOLE lot harder. the auto translate does not work as well as people want...

because they have seen you party

the truth is you suck.......... other than that i think it has to do with the on going war of gil seller vs. us us meaning those of us who dont spend days a NM spawn points. We know most of the gil sellers are JP players working for a living but it still creates that kind of rivalry feeling (simlilar to AU/UA :wink: ).

Whould you playing for AU accept a transfer from UA?

yea, blaine's right. There ARE some that do it for "other" reason, but 9 times out of 10, its just hard to communicate. It's also a matter of culture. Even if a Japanese person was able to spaek a little english, they won't. Unless it's perfect or they were forced to, they will more often than not, avoid it. It's not laziness, its more humility and humbleness and not wanting to be embarrassed. Its pretty much up to us to make an effort to learn to speak some japanese to get by. That's our culture, we're more forthcoming and bold in common aspects of our lives. Japanese are very modest in boasting about their abilities. Even if one spoke decent english for never being immersed in it, and by our standards, given the circumstances was great....he or she would say they suck and their english is horrible. I guarantee you, if u make an honest effort to communicate with them in their own language, they will try a little to meet you halfway using the auto translator or words in english they know if you have a hard time understanding.

I thought the majority of the gil sellers were chinese...

But yeah, some don't want to have to deal with the auto-translate, and others are just pricks who think you suck balls because you're not JP like they are.

Well yeah cuz Auburn sux, but seriously there has to be another explanation. Half the time JP players don't even respond to my query about possible party invites.... usually later i'll try them again if they ignore me, but then they say "I'm sorry" "I don't speak any English" i usually respond "Party" "Yes Please" "NO" "Conflict" :) .... which gets me this unanimous answer... "I'm Sorry" :x

NA = buy gil
Chineese = Sell gil
Japnese = {stay away from both}
:lol:

Well...

Historically the Japanese culture has been one of the most racist cultures in the world. Flame me for saying this but research it yourself. On the other hand from my personal real life experience living in Japan, the people there will associate and (in my case since I was young) play with an American even with the language barrier. Japanese are friendly people but you have to know that to their culture, Japanese > World. Once you get past this mind set you will be golden.

This will follow over into general game play in FFXI. Sometimes I swear that the Japanese wont play with Americans plainly because we are American, and they are Japanese. But I also have to think that maybe they just do not want to put up with the language barriern or they have partied with too many lousy english players. Personally I used to put NA ONLY in my search comments because I have become so frustrated with them. It is not because I am racist, I am just fed up with bad experiences with them. And know what? They are fed up with bad experiences with us as well.

Its true, JP culture is in a way, JP > you. Same thing with Korean Cultures. One thing about the Asian Society as of today, is they are so much focussed around american Culture. A american rap-artist hits the US, once it hits JP you have little 9ur old asian boys yelling "GGGGGG GUNITTTT!"

At low levels, the JP players generally don't take non-JP speaking players, because if there are problems in the party, (players not knowing how to skill chain, magic burst, controlling aggro etc etc) then if they can't communicate properly, they have no way to fix them.

I play JP times too, and before I was L55 and Rank 7, I almost never had a JP party. After that I had no problem at all, I guess because they figured there was a good chance that I knew what I was doing.

Even now as a L41, Rank 10 WHM, I'm almost no chance of getting a JP party. When you only party for 2-3 hours, it isn't worth the risk of inviting someone you can't communicate with, who may very well mess up your entire party....

Well my LS is JP, and because I study Japanese, I've earned respect among them. But the general feeling is that English players are bad, so JP won't party with them. For the most part, it's true, but there are plenty of bad JP players too. Also, the general age of JP players is more 20~35 years old, because at this time, they've finished the most important part of their lives, school. Once they've gotten into a good college, they can slack off, but until that point, education is the most important thing in the world. It's sad, but one of the most common suicide reasons, is not getting into college.

Most American players are closer to 13~25(I don't know about EU players,) and most can be pretty immature at that time, so JP's assume all English players are like that.

The Japanese culture is built on respect, and shame. Most of what people have said here is correct too, JP's won't party with English players because of the language problem. Even though they study english, some haven't learned, but some have.

Also, with the Auto translate, not everything translates the way you think it would. Like {back} refers to the Equipment slot, verses {I'm back!} which translates to exactly that, or in Japanese "tadaima!"

Japanese also take their parties seriously. They chat, but it's usually strickly business relating to the party, unless they'res downtime.

I remember once on my WHM, I was in a mostly JP party, the RDM was also an English player. Our MNK and THF pullers got a link, and sadly the BLM got killed from trying to sleep the other spider. I raised her, and she kindly thanked me in English and Japanese, because I had helped to work out conversation between the RDM and I, and the rest of the party and visa versa. She then told the JPs that I was rich, it's not as funny out of context though.

Point of this unnessicarily large post though, is if you're good at what you do, you'll earn respect regardless of language. So try your best to work with what you're given.

On most servers its NA > JP, especially when it comes down to HNM, endgame. Sadly Quetz is still one of thoser severs that is stuck.

hahahahahahahah

Only Midgarw/e, Bahamut, and the newest servers are NA > JP

I don't know what you're talking about ;)

I have gotten PT invites, whatever time, language or anything in about 2min tops as BRD. Sometimes, people have "JP ONLY" in their search comment when they ask, LOL.

so, EXP >> Japan >> World is a better way to say this ^^ (humility, Can I have it? ^^)

If they have a choice between Jap and US, they'll choose JP, no surprise. If they don't have the choice, they usually get what's available.

Very true.

All the JP parties I've been in have had no down time, everyone gains a level, 5-6 hour straight party, rarely and deaths, prepared, everyone comes and goes together sort of party.

I've had very few NA parties like this sadly. As someone said earlier, maybe it's the age difference. Many NA are still in high school or college and have many things to do so we have more of a time constraint. Thus explains the sudden "GTG, SORRY!" sort of things you hear.

I send invitations to JP people in auto-translate, the higher rank ones rarely reply back. I send invitation in Japanese, then I get a reply. :? Language barrier is a huge problem, the auto-translate really sucks.

It was funny...this one time we had a mix NA/JP party consisting of my 3-man static team. We had only 1 player that couldn't speak Japanese. My static told the team that we were Asian American players that knew Japanese. At this one point, something happened which caused this Japanese player to say, "I knew it, Asians are better players than Americans."

>_>; What that player said really made me laugh.

Historically and culturally, Japanese have always thought of themselves as superior to all other Asians though. So I was surprised at what he said.
