I didn't vote or respond until now to avoid any BIAS. I voted yes because I know I will try it when I level my next job through there - whatever it may be.

I have never, EVER understood why people can't understand the fact that (for all intents and purposes) Buburimu is a twin zone to Valkurm Dunes. There is nothing about Valkurm that makes it superior for those levels. I've had friends powerlevel me in Tahrongi Canyon, and when it's time to move up, stare at me in agitation when I start heading to Buburimu as the logical place to go. There's something about the familiarity of Valkurm, I think, that leads to a misconception that it's really "the" place to go. When snippers are lying dead in their spawn points on the blistering sands, it never occurs to anyone to hop on the boat back in the other direction.

I love Buburimu. As to the "it's dark and depressing" argument, well ... Valkurm is annoyingly bright to me, to the point of hurting my eyes. I hate it. I can almost feel my character baking alive. I don't even like passing through Valkurm on the way to somewhere else. The whole place is saturated in bad vibes. I get flashbacks. o_O

It was never as easy to get a party in Buburimu as it was in Valkurm, but it did indeed used to be possible. I think the bias mainly started for geographical reasons (Buburimu is only directly accessible from Windurst, while Valkurm connects to both Bastok and San d'Oria) ... but it truly has evolved into something sad.

As for the subjob item argument, well ... I prefer the Buburimu subjob set. While bogies are less common than ghouls, it's far easier to get a bloody cloth from them than it is to get a magicked skull.

im in the same boat as jakey, I miss the good old days.. fighting in Shakrami and Bubu, didnt really adventure to Valk till like lvl 15 XD
I remember lvling with you in bubu back in the day^^

Though B. peninsula is an excellent alternative to V. dunes, I don't see it happening for most pt's. Typically most melee players come from Bastok, and/or Sandy... A majority of people lvl'ing from 10-20 have to run back and forth to their home city to swap gear, etc... even though it would be just as possible to do so using Windurst, players want to do so in their home nation. Bastok and Sandy historically have been most player's sources for this.. as it's comfortable, and the majority of new players choosing melee jobs come from Sandy and Windy..

then you take into consideration how a majority of players despise negotiating the aggravating terrain of Tahrongi canyon... along with the fact most players are more comfortable with the close proximity of mobs they can progress to in Sarutabaruta or Gustaberg from 1-11 (approx).

typically taru's or mages lvl in Sarutabaruta..

It's become the norm... people have gotten comfortable with that "standard", and I don't see it changing. How many of us can tell you what mobs to exp on at lvl 14 then 16, then 18... and how about the coveted run to secret beach? Also how many lvl 10's on their way to the dunes stop off at Leaping Lizzy to camp a few lizards..

Until a majority of the server makes the decision to change that, it will remain so. People are going to go to exp where the most parties are, in hopes of picking up either an invite or a replacement spot.

Personally I hope that Buburimu stays the way it is.. a place where experienced LS statics can go to rush through the early levels...

I'm saying no... but I lvl'd my BLM in Bubu until about 17 I believe. That was a hell of a long time ago. Much more successful than the Dunes.

You know i'm tempted to get my bard to level 10 and make a qcdn level though in less than a day group. we can move onto korr tunnel if anyone gets bored with dhamel crawlers ect and once we outlevel that we can go to yet another underused zone or two.

La Theine Plateau is far, far more irritating to traverse than is Tahrongi Canyon. I don't know where you get the word "aggravating" from. It may not be ridiculously simple terrain, like the bumpy plains of Konschtat, but it easily comes in second: it can't compare to the annoying-as-piss sheer cliff barriers of La Theine.

Are you talking about the indented pathways? They're nothing like Meriphataud's ... you can find an inclined exit from them every few yards or so.

Haha, and not to mention that the run from west ronfaure seems annoyingly large.

I think most people exp in the dunes because you have two vs one city which is closer to dunes than Buburimu. Quite a lot of people are from Sandy, but it seems like more and more people are starting to come from Windy, so possibly Buburima could be a new popular exp place, especially the boat ride to Aht Urhgan is taken from Mhaura too.

I've never been around when the maze was a popular place to exp at, but heard about it, and maybe in time if more and more people try to form ptys there and invite people out there instead, that place can be popular again.

Bubu is located at a more convenient spot for people to PT in the teen ranges than another other spot. There is nowhere else that lets you go directly from a Jeuno sized AH, and a comple range of shops/guilds, and moghouse access, directly to an XP zone with no risk. Even a complete moron can make it from Aht Urgan Whitegate to Mahura safely, and with next to no effort. Because of this connection it is also incredibly simple for a player to reach Jeuno without walking through areas they might get aggro in as well.

Of course.... This is only true if you've been to Jeuno already, already have your subjob, and already completed to quest to get your pass. Pretty much Bubu is a fantastic spot for experienced players, and a mediocre one for new players.

Mob density and all that other stuff may not be as great as Valkrum, but I don't really know since I have never PT'd in Bubu, just solo'd.

Mediocre my ass... Theres noone in bubu. In my experience with partying in uncrowded zones that alone gives you at least double the exp you would normally get in a crowded zone.

I don't want to see this thread die so soon ... I'm always pushing for greater motivation from the community at large to ease out of the over-crowded zones, realize there's more than one or two places for each level range, and stop trying to squeeze everyone into the second bedroom of a 10,000 square-foot house.

Then again, I refuse to just make a simple "bump" post, so I'll give it a not-so-subtle disguise (much like Trippyhippy with his "This is not a flame" flame) by asking a question:

Did anyone, after reading this thread, seriously take Buburimu into consideration where you never did before? Are there any of you new enough to the game to have never even known that it's a "twin" to Valkurm Dunes, and is a viable option that nobody ever seems to take? Is anyone interested in pushing for their next lowbie party to go somewhere else, for easier/better/different experience, no matter how much of an uphill battle of convincing it might be?

Ah, I guess that was several questions. It's just that a movement to break these bloody "levelling zone" biases is almost never talked about; I want to see if the concept really got through to anyone who literally thought that Crawler's Nest is the only place to go at 40, Dunes is the only place to be at 15, etc.

I've got half a mind to create a new thread devoted just to the general notion of making better use of the "alternative areas."

People join parties before 20 now? I always solo'ed worms in maze/korroloka up to 20. Even with whm, hit and run with banish, and DoT.

Well, you phrased that as though it were the common thing to do, but I'm not sure if you were kidding or not. I know it's possible, and perhaps even easier, to solo to 20, but you're the exception ... not the rule. Most people really do make at least a cursory appearance in dunes, on most jobs. I thought that was common knowledge. o_O

Doing the obvious thing and setting your flag up in Dunes at level 12-13, rather than soloing, could easily be viewed as another example of people following the path well-trod.

Back to the questions in my previous post: did anyone feel inspired to change the routine?

next time I lvl a job from say 12 up.. I'll definitely try to form one in advance and meet in Bubu. Peninsula... I'm all for breaking the 'standard' of the dunes...

the idea of having an experienced party w/o competition sounds soooo nice..

maybe I'll pick rng back up.. later.
