Square Enix claims that they currently have over a million characters created, with just over 500,000 accounts. Now it got me to thinking. The game is... $12.95 a month for one character? So $6,475,000 alone just for main characters. Then take the extra $1 a month for about another 500,000 characters to make it a million. So that leaves Square Enix with at least $6,975,000 a month. And I'm sure they make more.

My reasoning for this, is that our monthly fee goes for them to run the servers, deliver content updates, customer service, etc. Now I don't believe they have a team big enough for the payroll to be almost 7 million a month, and I'm sure they aren't paying that much for electricity to run the servers, and the other things they're paying for.

So where the hell is our money going? Why can't they use this money to give us a better way to download updates and have faster maintenance? I mean, they could give us this in less than a month's worth of the money they take in from the fees.

Who knows, but I'm sure a lot goes to development of new games and covering payroll for employees that have nothing to do with FFXI, advertisements, marketing and who knows what else. From those numbers tho, I'm sure they could hook us up with a better version update system. :(

BTW, I'm still waiting to start the download >< (with 1 failed attempt)

Well the gigabit connection that we connect through for playing on the servers costs a bit. (I don't have an actual number handy at the moment, sorry) However you are indeed correct, if they "claim" that many accounts they would definitely have enough loot to update the patching systems. I know I have *never* had a problem updating SWG. Some people claim to have.. but not I.. sometimes takes a few minutes.. but i've only been disconnected during patching for it twice ever.. and it was due to my dial up modem being stupid and disconnecting.
