Is anyone else mortified and disgusted by the fact that we live in an age where we are getting American Idol results and updates on the downfall of "Brad and Jen" on the 10 O'Clock News?

What other daily occurrances make you go  ?

<Besides Reality TV - that is a GIVEN /puke >

Hard to explain...

People lose their sense of self with so many of everything now. Where are the geniuses? You ask: "Which?" So many. The things that aren't so repeated today are Saints. Good people. They're scarce. But the few are more capable, yet aren't recognized, or at least given support. They're scroned by the many, admired by the few...

Dunno, I find morality slowly, or hastily, fading away. So much racism, religious quarrels, it doesn't make sense. Wars for a little black liquid? WTF? You didn't say hi to me, I'm going to kill you... O.o This world is gonna end up killing itself... who needs armaggeddon when you have humanity? O.o

Yep... I'm insane.

Dont watch local news, only CNN Headline news, and only for 40 mins a day max.

Too much stupid shit in the world right now for me to worry about some dumb fuck show.

I don't even bother with American news anymore. For local stuff I constantly overhear people talking about it, and for any other news I do BBC.

Clones! Not actual clones, but close enough for me. I live about five blocks from Texas Tech University, and it seems like everytime I go outside I see five or six people who all dress in the same trendy manner, have the same trendy hair, drive the same trendy cars all blaring the same trendy music.
There are a few girls like that that sit behind me in my sociology class, and I could have sworn I heard one one day say "If I can't afford new (something) pants from abercrombie, I am just going to die!" Get a personality, people!

News? What news? I don't watch the news.

Reality TV pisses me the hell off though...

I like my girls to have intellectual depth, not just basic motor functions. Call me selective.

Take the moral-high ground if ya want, but the dumb ones can be nice to look at!

I'll agree with both of you.
I like eye candy, but in the end it's just, only and forever, eye candy.

100% right!

I have a huge issue with popular media, i.e. Radio, T.V. that panders to moronic product and public opinion.

Do I care if the cast from 1998's Real World can beat the cast of 2002's Road Rules in an obstacle course set against a lush Hawaiian backdrop?
Hell no!!
..but enough people exist in our society who do. That is more frightening to me than any weapon of mass destruction.

/rant off ..... for now

I have all the channels I could ever want on TV. I block half of them so that I will never by accident click on it if im surfing. MTV, BET, and a hand full of others are blocked. MTV seriously made a whole generation of people brain dead, when they stopped playing music and showed us craptastic shows on how to score with a guy/gal, whats in their house, or that road rules shit. .... WTF???? And I swear, every other add during the commercials has something to do with sex or alcohol. Now I dont oppose either of those, but there is kids as young as 10 watching that shit...

*Snorts and rolls up his sleeves*

I'll be honest. I'm sick of everything in this day and age. Sure, I love computers. I love chatting. I love posting. I love playing online games. I love electricity. I love tv.

But I could live happily without any of it.

Its horrible. Look at what we've come to. The Pope lays dying in the Vatican, lets cut to the Micheal Jackson trial real quick. Forget the religious fanatics world round who were praying for the outcome of the Papal figure, lets see why Jennifer and Brad are divorcing. Fuck, man. It makes me sick to my stomach. We've got all these people crying about gas prices as they drive their Range Rover to the pump. Idiot, did you not know your off-road vehicle gets 3 miles to the gallon on highway and city driving? Fucktard, you deserve to pay a billion dollars in gas. Not me. I didnt buy an SUV. I picked up a second hand honda at a police auction for $100. Does it make a difference? No. I still pay a shitload of money for a tank of gas. $2.60 is the average in San Jose, California right now, for Unleaded. Not Unleaded Premium Pure. Not Unleaded Plus. Not Super Unleaded. Just plain old fucking gasoline. Sorry, went off topic there a second. But seriously. The world has gone to hell in a hand basket. You cant turn around without a cell-phone ringing or seeing a spinner on a car. You cant turn on the television without hearing about TV Stars lives which are way better than yours. You cant change the channel without hearing about Whos-Doing-What in hollywood. You cant walk outside without seeing every little poser in the world wearing brand name gear to be 'Cool' and 'hip'. To hell with it.

I'm with Robert Edward Howard (1906-1936). He believed he was born in the wrong time. The wrong..Era. He was born just after the wild west was won. His subsequent suicide at age thirty was said to be due in part of this belief. This world had no place for him. He was cut from a different cloth. I feel that way about our modern age (not the suicide thing though, im pleeeenty happy being alive), the world just isnt what it was. Hell, it isnt what it was when I was a kid 15 years ago. I can just see it getting worse. I wish I was born seven hundred years ago. Five thousand years ago. Ten thousand years ago even, watch the birth of the first empires of man and play a small part in all of it. Theres no passion left in the world. Theres no adventure. Theres no discovery. Everythings been said and done. I wish I could've been an explorer. Now the best I can get is watching the Discovery channel.

The world isnt what it used to be, and it wont ever be that way again. I guess Celebrities and Reality TV will rule the world from now on. Pardon me while I find myself a nice shiny pistol. (..not really though!)

Great post Veo ^^b

I love a good "Decline of Western Civilization" themed post.
I think I agree with about 99.9% of everything you said.
Especially the Range Rover part.

It chaps my ass when I see those types, or how about the types that live in full Dreadlocks, wear old school Drug Rugs, protest against war in the Middle East, people eating meat and the destruction of Rain Forests, while checking the voice mail on their camera phones and clicking off the alarms on their SUV's. Hypocrisy is also unfortunately a huge part of life in these modern times. People pretend to care about whats important, as long as it doesnt interfere with the flow of their cushy lives.

Well, as long as /rant mode is in full operation, I shall continue....... ^.~
I talked with Anesly once briefly about this, it relates to the "Brad and Jen" story vs. the Pontiff's death. About 8 yrs ago (for instance sake) I was paging through our local paper, The Milwaukee Journal".
On the front page, was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge pic and article about
the troubles had by Brett Favre in the previous nights Packer's game.
Yet, on the back page, past the obituaries and just below an add for Carpet Town USA, was a tiny blurb about an Asteroid that will pass so close to earth in 2027, that anyone in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to look up and see it in the sky for roughly 3 days.

Granted its not until 2027, but ferchrisesakes I would think that would be news a little more noteworthy than Mr. Favre's prediction of at least 110%
given in the next game against the Bronco's.

I could rant all day on stuff like this, but for the sake of work production....
