Well, for a few weeks now, it seems that only a few subjects are always the topic of discussions here on QCDN. One of them being jobs, subjobs and the waiting time for invite.
Even if some won't admit (including myself sometime), there are subjobs that are more suited or fit for certain jobs. Not gonna give exemple as this is not the topic of my message to argue on it.
But what this leads to is people don't have a choice but to always go with the usual combo if they want in on a party. Yes, there might be 2 subjobs that are good with your main, but mathematically, it is impossible that two combo presents the exact same stats!! One of them will be better.
Also, the more I advance the more I get bored with leveling since it's always the same strategy to fight. Healer heals, rdm refreshes, thf complains about SATA  etc.... And it gets boring to always look for the same job/ party members to fit in that established strategy. It would be fun from time to time to have to sit down and really think about a strategy before going, so that every exp session would be more unique.
Don't get me wrong, I know there are always some adjustment that needs to be made, but you get my meaning, the overall picture is always the same if you want to exp for 3-4 hours.
Finally, some jobs are somewhat obsolete because they have to many alternatives. DD, you have a good choice to pick from. SMN, I just started this job and already I'm hearing people saying they can't find a party easily with it. As a DRK, I can leave my flag up for an hour or 2 before getting an invite. If abother DRK shows up, then it can be way more then that!!
So, what would spark more interest on my part? What would make every character combo unique, so you always had a chance to get in a party, just to see how it works? What would make every exp session unique?
Have a second subjob! Wait, wait, keep your stones on the ground please! Think about it. Make it a quest available around 45-50. The second subjob is half the first subjob. It would work as the reglar subjob, you get the ability of the job at the level.
For exemle, as a 48 DRK, I could be 48 DRK/ 24 SMN/ 12 NIN (granted, taht would be a solo machine  ) Then another DRK could have it's flag up as a 48 DRK/ 24 WAR/ 12 RNG Both would be efficient in a party, yet totally diffrent in terms of strategies. Basiacally, the amount of possible combos would be so much bigger, that it would make every exp session unique.
Agreed, it would also make the character stronger. So what? Again, that might take us away from that 6 man party ideal setup!!! You could get a 3-4 man crew to fight IT. If you get a 6 man crew, you could go for higher mobs. A duo could also be efficient. What would happen again is people would spread out more accross the land to exp, instead of sticking to the same old places, depending on how many people you have. Again, each exp session would be unique and strategies would change, planning would probably be a little more necessary, instead of joining a party and rushing in battle, excpecting everyone to know what to do.
Finally, it would probably make solo play easier. But then again, why not? Having a second subjob could maybe allow you to take on DC or even EM prey for 72-100 exp. It will still be much faster and efficient in parties, but at least it would allow you to do something while waiting for invite. And I really appreciate the way this game forces you to group, to know other people, that's the core of the game. But sometime, say on a Sunday morning with a nice coffee, I'd like to take things easy and solo for an hour or so, while chatting with my LS.
In the end, having a second subjob would allow more custommization of your character, more diversity in the world of Vanad'iel. Maybe I'm way off and this is a stupid idea, but I though I'd throw it out there and see what you people think of it.
And if that would just make the leveling too easy and to fast, why not give an exp penalty if you have a 3rd job, to bring the exp/hour ration to the same as it is right now. The goal of this is not to make the game way esaier, but to allow more versatility in the way you play and in the parties being setup.
As I said, it might be a stupid idea, so let's discuss!
