Well after two years I decided to upgrade my granny ol' thrid PS2 FFXI graphics to that of the collector's eddition of FFXI. Man is it nice... finally get it installed... ready to play... then Error X_x;

Guess I'll be this lvl 64 noob who doesn't know now to use computer controllers x.x so spoiled with ps2 controller /cry

and I'm assuming for the threads and as many people on here I am not the only one, ne?

You do know you can get controllers for PC that are pretty much the same as PS2 ones. I use a Nyko AirFlo PC and it is just the same as playing on my PS2. Check out Nyko's website or your local gaming store to see them. Hope that helps you guys.
 
You never use the mouse to play, it's just the keyboard; or you could go with a gamepad or use a PS2/USB adaptor.
 
I bought a controller for Raesvelg's PC for FFXI for his birthday last year that he used maybe once... >_>; maybe I'll go borrow it :D
 
I tried.. but I grew up playing games on the keyboard anyway, and trying to get used to the controller was just too weird for me... ^^;
 
pc 4tw. like rae I grew up playing online games with the key board also. I like having my controls right where I can type, droppingthe controller to type I'd imagine would suck.
 
Exactly. And I have reasonably big hands to boot, so I can cover most of the keyboard pretty easily. Add to that the long established practice of typing with either hand (checking in orders at a bookstore you develop the ability to type one handed, since the other hand is always busy scanning or moving something), and the controller was just more of a hassle than it was worth for this game. :D
 
I have the Nyko Airflow one and it's set up to pay the game as is on PS2. I've had it 4 years and it still works perfectly. Playing this game on a keyboard would make it more frustrating than it already is. :evil:
 
well I can't wait to give her a go! I mean... I can see that my avatar accually has a mouth and use model veiwer!! <3
 
I know the feeling. After trying to play with the keyboard and mouse I broke down and bought a usb adaptor off ebay so I could use my ps2 controller still.
 
I can't imagine playing this game with a controller. That would so...blow. And as mentioned before, you almost never use the mouse for anything.
 
When I come back to FFXI in about a week, I'll be on PC, but I'm getting an adaptor for my PS2 controller, so I feel your pain Reya!!

Wow, I guess you really do learn something everyday... now what was it I learned today? ><
 
The only thing the mouse ever got used for was the occational camera position tweek and to select something umongst a lot of selectable things (tab would take to long and f8 wouldn't cut it).
 
I too grew up using a keyboard for online gaming (way back to the muds and physically typing out all the commands @_@ ), so using a controller at all kind of turns me off. I can't imagine how cumbersome it would be to play FFXI with a controller.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way at least ;)
