my friend is a 59 ninja, 1 problem, ITS HIS SECOND CHAR. his first char was a level 40-something blm elvaan, now hes a hume female who raised warrior to 30 and now ninja to 59. so, hes 59, i can deal with that no problem, I WAS 24 before he even started his new character!!!!!!!! he was slightly behind me when i hit 30, dosnt bother me much... it was his second char, out of nowhere this ninja comes 15 levels ahead of my 35 rdm and al im thinking is :shock::shock::shock::shock:

well, ok, so he has more skill than me, alot of people do, but recently i confronted him on this,

his simple reply:i play more than you,
i ask him to go into detail and hes like
him: my static partys go well over 8 hours a day, at lower levels it wasnt unexpected to get 4-6 levels a day, all im thinking is DAMN

excuse the excesive use of smilys, i think they might be needed to express the point, but back to subject

hmm well, ok, thats good for you and all, but 7-8+ hours in an xp party?!?!? in addition he has to farm or NM all the money to pay for it even though he crafts his own shihei or whatever it still cost alot fo money to level up 5 times a day, so thats more time spent farming, ok ok he obviously has time to burn, but then it brings me to wonder if he does anything outside hte game, like sleep, im sure he has somewhat of a life but

It's all about how much time u wanna spend on it. When I first started, it got a little outta hand, but now I have a set routine with FFXI. The only thing that sux tho, is that I can't have a static PT, since I can't invest the same amount of time. <sigh> To me it's all about balance in life with spontanous bursts of excess (this is wat vacation days are for, /cheer). I wish I had the same amount of time, but I can't really rationalize playing that many hours without neglecting the other facets of my life. Okay, sorry for being preachy. But that's my 2 gil on the matter.

Well, there are some things that make that possible, first off, its a static PT, cuts down on major downtimes looking for group and rotating members. Its his second character, so if he's on the same server, he could have his first character gilfarm and make more money then he would normally be able to. Third, think of it like this, when you got your advanced job, or any other second job, it's much easier to level it up. You know what to fight, when to fight it, you know the jobs weaknesses and strengths. When you first started playing you had to /check everything and were still learning the basics, now you know everything easily.

Some people just have that much free time, I usually play 2-3 hours a day, maybe less, maybe more, depends on what I need to get done. You never know, maybe he's on vacation or something, believe me, there are worse stories of people playing more than 7-8 hours a day.

I get mental images that make me laugh, of people "Clocking in" to play FFXI... lol I can't subject myself to sitting at a screen that long :( My eyes would shrivel up and roll down my cheeks... I can't do it! I can't! Maybe MMORPGs aren't for me... lol but in the last week I've really slowed down in this game, and have only partied twice in the last 3 weeks. I didn't want to get burned out on the game, honestly. So I tried other things in the game, or just came on to farm and chat with my wonderful LS mates :) But yeah, I agree with Pupusa on his points that he probably does gilfarm with his other character, or has supplied him with so much gil farming is no long an issue for either character.

But uh... I wouldn't worry about getting "left behind", Mithy. This ISN'T a race, damnit! A lot of people want to grab all the levels they can as fast as they can... but I just don't care anymore. Leveling is just a means of getting to do the crazy shit in the game that -I- want to do! :D Traveling, mainly, but there is just SO much more to this MMORPG than just leveling and making gil. People who don't think so are missing out!

Isn't really a big deal. Don't get all worked up because you feel like you can't keep up with so-and-so. The game is here to be enjoyed. It's not going anywhere so just go at your own pace.

More often than not, those people who play multitudes of hours a day and make 75 in a month and a half, burn themselves out so bad that they become intolerable to play with anyway. Let alone see much of the game expect for the few places the leveled at.

Too much stuff to do in this game. I'd rather take my good ole time doing it.

Friday night I was able to spend 10-12 hours, but this only happens for me once a month or less.
When I have that kind of time, I level. Its one of the only things in the game that you need a massive block of time for.
Most other things I can do on my own time in 1-2 hour blocks of time.
I usually play about an hour a day. A little in the morning and a little at night. If I need to get something done I just finish that up in as much time as it takes and then wrap it up.

I wish I had 4 hours a day!
That would be awesome. :)

Well since I've come back to the game I've logged in over 5 days of playing time in about three weeks time and that's with a full time job. This weekend I started to notice a slow down in my desire to play as much. I wanted to actually go outside, go play pool, see friends, etc again. All games have that initial hold on me where I want nothing more than to play them but it wears off and a balance is struck.

I have a wife, full time job and full time school. I play for about 1 hour a day if its a work day (my work place has FFXI installed on the computers).
1-2 hours if its my day off. I spend a lot of time farming and buying armor for the levels that Im heading towards. I dont worry about the higher level players or the lower levels catching up to me cause it will just stress me out and that is not why I play this game. Every 11 weeks I get a break from school and thats when I go exp hunting. I really dont have any goals for the game anymore and its kind of got me wondering what I'm really doing with this game.

I confess, I really play this game only because it's how I have chosen to spend my time waiting to die.

LOL

haha nice sneaky

Personally I have taken a good amount of time off of work. In the past 8 days I have gained 20-35k exp per day allowing me to travel from 65-70.
However prior to that, many of the people i lvl'd with outgunned me and now I am finally able to pt with them again. Unfortunately when I work, sometimes Im working 60-90 hours a week so my time is extremely limited. Now that ive had free time and already took a few vacations Ive been a goddamn slave to this game haha. Like others said, its all what you put in, and how smooth the PT's roll.

Dont burn yourself out, I was very much on the edge myself, and not in hopes to catch anyone in particular but to strive forward and gain lvls/ranks/fame/quests. Take your time, and never compare yourself to another individual because jealous is the rotten core of inner destruction and you will no longer be playing should you choose to follow in the paths of others.

Oy I"m really really slow in this game. I"ve been playing since the NA release and my highest level character is 32, plus I have no monies

its not a matter of gaining levels, my biggest goal is NOT hitting 75, one of them is getting rdm pimp AF hat :P but mostly, i really want to strive to keep up, everyone is passing me it seems, its not the passing that bothers me, its the fact that because of it, i lose ALOT of contact and if they dont have a pearl to 1 of my LS, we lose almost all contact, i made friends with 1 summoner, 5 parties in 2 days together, barely a week later, she comes up 6 levels ahead of me, ; ; and now we only really talk when we run into each other in jeuno, im her bridesmaid (chaperonge for the marriage) and the ONLY time we talk is when we pass in lower jeuno (my new home :P)

I spend alot of time playing this game, i wont deny it. When i get up i eat something and play until lunch (about 3 hours). I eat lunch do whatever else needs to be done. Then i play for an hour. I go off to work for awhile and get back around 9:30 and play fore at least 2 more hours. Usually i spend 6-7 hours a day playing this game. Once i'm back in school maybe an hour to two hours but until then......

yeah...I can't play while I'm home for the summer, weird huh? When I go back to school I'll be able to play much more...I get out of class everyday at 12ish except for thurs...I'll get a couple of hours of playtime then I go to good ole Football practice 3-6ish then a couple more hrs when i'm back in my dorm room...oh how I love college! :P

For some reason, it's the season that affects my game time. During the winter tons of time to play. Well, tons for me. 3 hours on a weeknight. But now with spring and summer and a new dept at work. I get less and less game time. There are some weeks, where all I can do is check AH for one instance. I make my gil by going nuts on making insect paste. It's not the biggest money maker, but everytime I log on, I get close to 9k. Which isn't too bad, I might increase that to 12k with the addition of my 3rd mule. Oh look, I've gone on went on another tangent. LOL. My bottom line is that I enjoy playing this game at the pace I am going. Hehe, I bought the game in Feb. and I am a 43whm now. MY LORD is ERASE such an expensive spell. <breathing in and out> Okay, I feel better now. LOL
