Say hello to yet another recent Midgardsormr immigrant. :) It is a shame to lose Midgard -- the abbreviation brought to mind it being the world rather than a world, for one thing -- but I like couatls, too, ever since reading part of The Power of Myth (and losing it in a move so I couldn't finish it :( ).

Anyway, I came to FFXI having hoped to accomplish two things. One was to RP through missions to squeeze more FF out of this FF; unfortunately, quite a bit got in the way there. First off, it turned out that FFXI, or at least Midgard, was practically a no-RP zone -- even if most of Midgard's reaction turned out to be quiet tolerance, almost no one wanted to participate. There were other problems -- most of the few who did participate being more interested in over-the-top personal storylines, Kamiel not turning out to be suited to the intended romance with Kumei and paying way more attention to another PC, that PC's player suddenly deciding he hated me and storming out "forever" even though his character had eclipsed the RP Urkel-style and his character wouldn't have logically been left alone right then, Kumei and I wanting two different things out of any reboot of the RP... Oh well. I've left that behind, leaving the RP to other venues (mainly D&D 3.5 on EsperNet IRC, lately).

The other thing I hoped to accomplish here I've been more successful at: leveling PLD/RDM -- with that sub exclusively -- from 1 to 75, decided on long before Kanican's enmity testing was so much as a dream. (Speaking from personal experience, don't use /RDM before 50.) I even have left WAR at 1 so people can't demand the obvious alternative. I can't say I've accomplished this goal alone by any means; at first, Kamiel levelled in an ICly symbolic static duo with Kumei's DRK, which became an equally symbolic static trio with the third PC's BLU referenced above in the late 20s until 61, at which point Level Sync gave him an excuse to start pulling away (the start of the buildup towards him turning on me as mentioned above; ultimately, he came back to my IRC channel with regret and a year of new wisdom, though).

From there, since I couldn't just put up my seek flag and expect an invite to a non-colibri party (tarudins and colibri don't mix, nor does PLD/RDM hate generation and colibri), Kumei started arranging parties including both me and his second main (originally named Koren, but was forced to change to Corene here -- just as well, as people kept mistaking "Koren" for male based on the name even when she was standing in front of them). We quickly learned that NA RDMs tended to be total jerks towards PLD/RDMs, resorting to things like refusing to Refresh, dropping party in mid-battle, and getting me kicked out of parties against targets I was well-suited to just because of a badly-chosen camp (quickly corrected) in a previous one. As such, Koren's RDM was levelled to provide me with a RDM who's not a jerk. Between that, the desperation for tanks that emerged as the population dwindled, and the magic of Level Sync, I hit PLD75/RDM37 in the wee hours of February 12th, 2010. (Y'know, a couple of weeks before that stopped meaning something. ;p )

Now that I'm PLD75, I've been mainly focused on meriting it (solo, generally, usually via Campaign) and seeing what I can do with it (I tanked the final Shikigami Weapon pop on Midgard!). I have my doubts about the level cap increase, and mourn the impending loss of Dynamis as we know it, so I kinda hope I can find a way to enjoy that while I can too (if a PLD/RDM doesn't appeal to you, I also have RDM75 and WHM75; I have secondary-assisted there once, though). I also miss trad-parties, if anyone here ever participates in those despite their extreme inefficiency by today's standards and the rarity of pullers who know how to pull for them anymore.

...Dear truth, that was long.

Please treat us well. If you don't, well, keep in mind that lightning is weak to earth. ;) -- Pteryx
