This weekend I drove from Calgary to Great Falls, Montana to pick up 5 adorable retired racing pups for my adoption group. What an absolutely wonderful crew of puppers, all so polite and beautiful. The car ride went pretty good - Zeke and Fran tried for about 3 hours to hop in the front seat with me,but thank god my sister was there to keep everyone in line. The other 3 ladies just slept in the back of the truck the whole way.

When we got back at about 2 am, Sophie was just freaking out! She absolutely loves other greyhounds and was so wiggly (she's almost 9 now...) that I couldn't even get her to sit still long enough to put her muzzle on. Hannah on the other hand wasn't very happy at all - she was pretty mad that mum was letting all these strangers in HER house and let them lay on HER bed. She did pretty good considering about 5 months ago she would of thrown an absolute hissy fitt and tried to eat everyone. She pretty much just growled at everyone that came too close, which is okay - all bark no bite :)

The dogs were fantastic, considering there were 7 of them all crammed downstairs with me that night. Zeke cried for a bit but eventually went to sleep - he did get up at 7 am though and started crying again so I finally got up. Here they all are!

This is Yo Fran, she's a sweet 2 year old brindle girl with a ton of self confidence. She acted like she had been in a house for years and settled in right away. She liked the squeeky toys and hanging out with everyone. She also has an adorable mohawk.

Here's Utility Cop (AKA Zeke). He was the only boy in the crew and did great - he really is a 'get on your lap' guy and just loves to be near people. He's a little bit clumsy and has the thickest head ever! he kind of looked like a pit bull it was so thick - he does have the most beautiful golden eyes and insisted on trying to hop in the front seat of the truck and cuddle the whole way. That's Hannah with him - she's so teeny!

This is DCs What For, she's a retired 9 year old brood mama who just had a litter in March. She was so funny! She was calm, kind of did her own thing and was perfectly content to not be around everyone. She would just wander off and find a soft place to sleep while everyone else was bouncing around. A huge smiler too! She was also the biggest lady dog I've ever seen, just an all around sweety.

Here's Dola Zelda, she's a 10 year old retired brood mama who was recently returned I guess. She has the CUTEST ear that is constantly sticking up. She was extremely sweet, had the softest, thickest coat and just a very laid back lady who loves to cuddle.

And this is JNJ Shocker - Another retired brood mama that was recently returned - she was my fave of the bunch. She was so skinny and looked like she had a bit of a sore leg, but just so sweet, gentle and calm. She has the skinniest long face and beautiful dark eyes - I wish I could of kept her, I think I would of called her Odette, after the princess in swan lake - she was so fragile and beautiful!

It was a great weekend and it was a lot of fun having all the dogs in the house. I was happy to see my DBF be such a huge help, he was very understanding and that made me smile! Here are some other pics of everyone having a good time :) Hope you enjoyed!

Awww thats so cute. I love Sophie!!!

Every time I see Sophie's picture my heart melts. You're such an amazing person Sabs. <3

I love greyhounds so much, I keep telling Osse that as soon as our situation allows us to have a dog we're adopting one. I think they're the most awesome breed of dog out there. When I worked in Chicago at a dog-friendly store we had a brindle greyhound named Dasher that would come in all the time; I was sold on greyhounds the first time I saw him in his fleece raincoat and booties. So adorable!

Sabs, you have made me want a Ghound more than anything in the world right now. D:

I'm totally getting one once Nina and I settle in on a permanent address.

Awww that's jsut fantastic! I'm glad you are helping to find the retired dogs a home ^^ my father does the same thing with alaskan dogs that retire from sled racing, taking care of so many is just too much fun.

Grey hounds are one of the most awesome breeds imo. My parents had a beautiful brendal female for quiet a few years. We adopted her from a rescue shelter when she was 3 yrs old. She has sadly passed away with in the past year and will be missed.

Grey hounds have amazing personalities and contrary to the belief of some, they make amazing family dogs and watch dogs. Something else that I thought was a funny rumor... Due to the shape and such, many think that they can't sit. That they would have to sit to the side a bit due to their big hips. This is not true. Ours sat just like any other normal dog.

I want another grey hound now. I miss pepper. ;;

Many kudos, rate ups and well wishing goes out to you for what you are doing to help them. The world needs more people like you.

Aww, way to go Sabs.

Calgary will be perfect for them. It's top in Canada for Dog Parks! :D

A friend of mine who moved here from England like 4 years ago has two of the biggest Ghounds I've ever seen.

There really cool dogs, well the white one is. His other dog Hunter is a big black dog who hates basically everyone and chased me and 3 of my friends when he got loose.

But I'm sure he isn't like any of those dogs, they all look so cute lol... I wanna new dog now D:

This would be awesome if ANY of them were fenced in.....You can't let greyhounds off lead because they can hit speeds of up to 45 mph in under 6 strides, so if your dog sees a rabbit/squirrel/groundhog/bag it'll be gone so fast you'll never get it back. I illegally take mine to a fenced in ball park, I've been kicked out a few times but I just leave and come back later!

Pepper sure was beautiful! I love brindles - I had a brindle boy named RSW Solo for about 2 weeks, I had to give him up after he tried to get my cat. Here he is below!

I ended up getting my little 49lb bundle of terror - Hannah, instead. She's cute, cute :D

My ladies,

I had a guy named Foxy Promise that passed away in October - that's the only thing that makes greyhounds less than perfect - they don't live long enough :( I miss him so much!

Picture030.jpg

And happy happy day! 3/5 of the greyhounds I brought up all ready have homes! The one lady was pre-adopting Zelda and was going to foster Shocker. She phoned the head of my group back yesterday and said she's going to keep both of them :)

But yeah, greyhounds are awesome! If you're ever looking for a low maintenance, lazy as hell, beautiful dog - go greyhound. Truly amazing animals and so many need homes.

Edit: If anyone is ever truly interested in bringing a greyhound into their home or apartment and has some questions - just PM or send me an email, I'd love to help you out :)
