Kingdom Hearts stand alone.

I feel that Kingdom Hearts could have been its own stand alone game. What I mean is, without the disney.

It could have been a merger of all Final Fantasy worlds in one. With Sora as the main, Rikku, etc.

The whole heartless idea was great. And the Keyblade etc.

But I think it may have been even better without the disney theme. Im not saying how it is now is bad, im just saying it could have been even better.

Rather than disney worlds, you visit locations from past FF games.

Zanarkand from FFX
Midgar from FFVII
etc.

I think it would have been an even better seller like this.

I liked how Disney was incorperated. The movies were from the Generation of current gamers. I remember seeing all those movies while growing up, and to be able to kick the bad guys' asses with a keyblade just made the memories even better. A stand-alone video game of just FF characters wouldn't appeal to as large of a crowd as a Disney/FF game would.

Every single person I know who didn't like Kingdom Hearts says the same thing - "I can't stand Disney." Maybe there would be some merit in a more Final Fantasy oriented KH... but then again, Square just did the game and original character design. Kingdom Hearts is a Disney story.

yeah and everyone i know that says they cant stand disney....never played it and bash it on the general idea. i used to think it sucked too. Then i played it and got hooked.
its a odd sounding blend. But it works and works well.
Some of those i know who have played it after saying it sucked ended up liking it alot.

I hate disney but I must say.. they did great with KH :D (with SE's help XD)

Quite honestly half the charm of KH is the Disney stuff. Fun, unique, intersting, the combo is what made the game.

Definately wouldn't be as fun as a stand-alone game. The memories from when I was little just come flooding back with every world. It wouldn't even be close to the same with just Final Fantasy stuff.

The whole disney element turned me off, into more darker games/stories.

Was playing the first one, was in Alice and wonder land, my mom walked in saw and wanted to know if I was gay.

Nomura did the story, Tag. He is from SE. Same guy who did Advent Children and a bunch of other stuff.

I like the blend. Though they can't do a FF7 world because all of the Final Fantasy characters are from Hollow Bastion. It would screw up the story, methinks.

I thought the story was written by Disney's writers.. my bad. Oh well.

Leon is from Hollow Bastion too, so that puts a damper on an FF8 world... unless Leon suddenly is "reminded" where he really came from, because the power of the GFs he was wielding destroyed his true memories... :banghead3:

Hey, look mommy, Shiva erased my memories!! Nuuu
And SE and Disney collaborated on the story together, it wasn't just SE or Nomura.

The idea from Kingdom Hearts was concieved in an elevator. I believe Japan's Disney office is a floor above the offices for Squaresoft (or so they were at the time). So people from the two companies would see each other every day. And then one day they talked about the idea of how they could make a game together. It wasn't really serious at the time, just an idea. And then it became a reality.

When I first heard about Kingdom Hearts, I thought it was going to be dumb. But once things started rolling for the game (new videos, screenshots, etc), I thought it sounded great. Then it got pretty good reviews all around. I played it at a friend's house and got hooked.

I like the Disney element. I can't see Sora with anyone besides Donald and Goofy. Yeah, they could do the game without Disney, but they'd run out of ideas quick. It'd get old fast with just Final Fantasy stuff. There are only twelve main FF games (not spinoffs like Tactics or X-2). There are hundereds of Disney movies and cartoons. I don't normally watch Disney movies, but when I play Kingdom Hearts, I want to watch all of the movies involved. Hell, I wouldn't even mind seeing The Little Mermaid right now (although Tron is coming soon from Netflix).

And as for writing and all that, Square did do most everything. Disney was the final yes or no. And Disney pretty much wrote the story for each world though, since most of them are repeats of their movie. I did believe Nomura wrote the overall story though.

Heh I just watched Tron on Sci-Fi.
Least I think it was Sci-Fi

Disney only collaborated on the story to make sure their characters were represented properly. They didnt write any of the main plot.
they also didnt want mickey in the first game longer than a few seconds just to see how the game fared on the market before putting their primary character in a bigger role.

ya, it was in the contract that mickey was only allowed to be in one scene in the entire game. (the first one that is)

To be honest, I think the whole idea of Kingdom Hearts was to make some people who love Disney actually broaden thier views to FF games. Squaresoft (now Square-Enix) is huge, no doubt, but look at the other media types they are delving into. Music, games, radio, concerts, movies... yeah they are getting thier name out there. But Disney, dwarfs all of that. If the SE consumer base is 10,000,000 world wide, then Disney is like 500,000,000.

Seems to me, Square-Enix did this merger of the two worlds to more or less dip into that 500,000,000 fanbase that normally wouldn't look twice at another FF title. And I think it was a smart move.

My 10 year old neice got Kingdom Hearts I before I did. Mind you I'm a FF fan through and through, but the game didn't seem appealing to me at all. But it was to her. And now she's the one asking me all the questions about the FF characters in the game, like why does Leon have a scar? Who is Sepheroth, and why does he have one black wing? I'm enjoying it too.

So really, for a hard core FF fan, yeah, we could do without the Disney. But this game wasn't made for us. It was made for Disney fans to learn more about the world of FF. And if you don't think that was a brilliant business tactic for SE, just check and see how many copies of KHII are being sold. I'll bet within a few years, KH series will outsell the FF series.

I'd like to see them crossover with another company like Marvel or Capcom or a company that owns a lot of animes.

That's a good point. I think though the reality was more of a collective of everyone's points. Disney has 'yet' to produce a game for anything ages 14+ that would really keep them coming back to play. SE wanted a larger fan base. The two worked together creating Kingdom Hearts. It's bring it all together into one great game. one of the guys was right to say that the game itself with current worlds (Disney) gives you that nostalgic feeling of remembering when Disney's 'good' movies. (You don't see Atlantis up there, or any of their reall movies like, god... i can't think of any since they really haven't made anything 'GOOD' in the last 5 years save Pirates). Now currently Disney is only remaking all of there old classics with the newer stars. Personaly, I think the older ones are still better >.> but for the new generation of gamers and movie goers, they might like these new ones better. Either way, back to to topic at hand. SE could have made it all FF, (but didn't they try that with a fighting game before? /sarcasm) but I don't think it would have been as good.

Also, how many Cid's, Bigg's and Wedges would you like to see? The Disney theme gave all the characters somewhat of a connection. Sora, Riku and Kari, though human, also carried with it the designs of more 'cartoony' features and clothing (probably more due to their age's than anything ^^: ). Thus IMO I think they were what made the bridge from Disney to SE characters complete. I mean, look at CS's. It just 'looks' right to have the Disney crew with Sora and the others. Now, imagin the kind of realistic CG from say... FFX or the new hidden trailer, and place them in it. Honestly, could you see Donald Goofy and Mickey in a realisitc CG with their cartoony forms? Personaly I can't. I can't begin to fathom everything SE and Disney did to make this game. All I can really say is that I'm glad they made it. They gave each of the respective classic Disney Movie's Justic in holding to their forms... except maybe for Mushuu ^^; they could have given him a bit better work. But all the other area's lands and such were increadable!

Hmm, maybe I really didn't add much to this conversation, but heck. I don't think an all FF game would really done well. It would have gotten much more skeptical on the points of why the Flower Girl was alive, Septheroth was alive, how can we keep all the Cid's straight, How is Celes, Locke etc doing? blah blah blah... actually, i could see maybe 1 game with it... maybe a different story, and not based around the heartless or anything like that or different worlds... but maybe it could work with something different. Never know I guess till they figure it out. ^^

i wanna see them crossover into 80's cartoons like, Chuck norris, Voltron,He-man, G-Force, Silver Hawks, Thundercats, Herculoids, Laser tag and so on. That would be the shit!
