Knew it was coming

I've talked about this for a long time with my wife, with my parents, with friends, and with coworkers.

I have long had a feeling that someone would be ignorant enough to do something like what transpired yesterday, and the worst part is that chances are it won't be the last, especially if he wins the Presidency.

Kudos to the Secret Service, FBI, and law enforcement for bringing this down before anything was put in motion.
 
Sounds harsh but I think he will be (if not assassinated) shot if he's elected. There is just too much hatred, you may foil one attempt, but behind that are countless others.
 
i certainly won't deny that there exists a whole lot of stupid in the US.

I seriously doubt anyone will succeed. Sure, there will be numerous attempts, but in the history of the USA, how many presidents have ACTUALLY been assasinated? Two? How many were shot at but not killed...........two? Three maybe? I'm sure the FBI and SS will have their work cut out for them, but I think they will be expecting this and will be well prepared for any more attempts or plots IMO.
 
If someone thought that this would not happen they are naive. He is a black American running for president. Yes, some things have changed since MLK but honestly not that much.
 
It's not just presidents, it is people trying for change in equal rights. MLK (like Kelyon said) and Malcolm X for example. People just don't like change.
 
Nope, people dont like change, but that doesn't mean that it wont happen. Look at MLK, he was assasinated for acting on his convictions, but what good did his assasination do? It added more steam to the civil rights and he even got his own holiday too. Think the killer had that in mind when he squeezed the trigger? Again, there will be numerous attempts no doubt, but whether or not they will be successful I highly doubt it.

What's most odd is how much attention the fact that there are going to be attempts on Obama is getting, hell the last three presidents have all had attempts on their lives. I'm frankly surprised anyone is surprised that there are idiots out there who will try. They will likely fail like so many before them have.

why do people always try to put malcom x in the same group with people like martin luther king? the guy was a violent, racist, criminal, who was killed because he pissed off the wrong people. no i dont mean white people, i mean the nation of islam. just because a guy loves black people as much as you do doesnt mean you have to turn him into some hero martyr.
 
Much like what Tristam G. said, I have talked about this same thing with friends, family, etc. It's a shame that he's not even president yet and this type of thing is going on. It's a terrible thing to say, but I'm sure this is only the beginning, especially if he is elected. Best of hopes for the Obama campaign, these are surely tense times.

Because these people aren't upset about his politics, they just don't want him in because of his skin colour.

Everyone is a hero to someone. Many people have been seen as violent to some and a saviour to others. That's why his name was mentioned.Hell, Nelson Mandela was seen as somewhat of a terrorist too.
 
The scary thing is...if Obama gets in, the sad and scary chances are that he will be assassinated. However, if McCain gets in, there is a very sad and scary chance that he will die in office. It seems this election will essentially almost boil down to the vice president and who they think would be better to run the country if something happened.
 
I'll still take Joe Biden over Tina Fey.

What exactly is so bad about Palin, I mean I don't follwo politics to much, but I still haven't heard one truely negative thing said about her... but I do hear alot of Democrats saying things like "imagine her as president" or things of that none specific nature.
