KO Vs. Haubergeon +1

Cause a samurai never actually hits the monster except for the times it uses a ws right?

Sorry, I thought this was about what's best for ws, obviously "I" was confused.

you cant macro swap food on and off. If you wanna be technical a mithkabob would have the same effect as a bison steak if you're only caring about ws.

Alright guys, i appreciate all the feedback and various opinions. No need to argue about food and what not, the purpose of this thread was solely for Tachi Gekko, the WS. Sure some food might offset the use of one armor piece over another, but seemingly, what it comes down to is just preferance. I think ill personally give the slight edge to KO to WS in, but you wont be far off one way or the other. Its also possible that say, you do 100 Gekkos on a mob, u might miss more of the 100 with a KO then u would with a Hauby+1, excluding the theories on ACC and what not, but it would take alot of testing.

I think most would be fine with either one, i for one am going to tp in hauby+1 and ws in KO. Thanks all.

I believe it was math crafted that Byrnie +1 would outdo other options for something like Blade: Jin (Assuming you did not have to worry about accuracy on Blade: Jin).

That also didn't take into effect the critical rates and values (which weren't understood then as they are now).

Keep in mind byrnie+1 still has DEX+5 so it's not really very far behind any other options besides Osode in that regard, and Byrnie+1 has an ENORMOUS attack advantage over Osode.

I'd say it's more an anomaly that attack and accuracy end up being largely irrelevant to Tachi:Gekko, which is pretty bullshit if that really is true.

edit: it's sorta like the anomaly of some NQ lances being better than their HQ versions, but that's taking this sidetrack a little too far.

Man, am I glad we made that Q&A thread.

well wouldnt want to make the forum dead, plus i think his topic's core question was what would effect ws more the atk or str, not just which is better.

lolconfused why is dex even an issue for gekko? or we talking about tp'ing in? I for one would sell that osode and just stick w/ hauby +1 all around. the difference is minimal like you said, and that would put 3 mil back in your pocket (or whatever it's going for now). Just my 2 cents

Okay i searched here and couldnt find anything direct, i dont wanna cause a big argument and what not but im having a hard time deciding which is the better for weaponskill (Tachi: Gekko)?

I tried to use the WS Damage formulas on wiki (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Calculating_Weapon_Skill_Damage), al though i might have done them a bit incorrectly i am not sure so if anyone wants to double check.

I currently have both, but only recently bought a HQ hauby and i was under the impression it should be full timed, but i havent noticed a big difference, in any in my WS damage.

According to the formula, a KO with its 4 extra STR, but less ATT gives off slightly better numbers than Hauby+1. Anywho, i was wondering what some of your opinions were and if you had any proof as to which is better.

Funny I was out testing my skills and its hard to do testing without some DPS mod that logs everything you know?

This is an old argument I had on warcry about Str vs ATT and we really never came to any good conclusions. Most Samurais back then we all just went for high att gear and high dex...

Also the thread was spinning on subjects I wish not to relive so sorry if Im repeating what is said.

Extensive testing is needed...though done and discussed on VN ffxi board a lot back then. Some of us agreed or just gave in to the idea that stick with Haub for the dmg same with Ochidu Kote's gloves to get the most out of our dmg... Not just ws was affected by also white dmg aka regular hits.

Its hard to judge about WS to...I dont know if its still in place I have a lot of catching up to do with the games info..but from what I gathered not much has changed so if that is true then sticking with att+ Dex+ was the better route with regular dmg and ws dmg overall.

Still I wouldn't stress WS dmg so much on your build.. I used to do that but really the jobs a Semi Dps and more of a support dps/tank depending on party build. Basing my on my old views here. Since Sams are best at TP gain then its best to exploit that and do as many skill chains +Mages adding the burst ontop of it..(ventrilo would help vs typing). It got to the point I spent a lot of time calling out what WS to use and when to use them since I was able to close many of the attacks with my own WS. it worked out well..very well actually. The problem for me was remembering what WS chained to What and with what WS...having a static group helped a lot since I knew everyones skills well.

Sorry im rambling off a bit more than expected. Still the focus on WS dmg isn't all of the dmg you do ...what about regular dmg? Was it consistently higher ?

i dont think you read the entire thread, and just replied to the first post, again. This data is found in the sticky.

DEX dose nothing for ws, atk more often then not, dose nothing for ws.

KO wins by 1-2% in ws dmg, which what this topic is about if im not mistaken.

Im afraid I can't because of time (im at work and being sneaky reading here  )

I am just grabbing the original topic .. and going off of that. Links are problematic for me also as for most are blocked here at work.

Now I should get back to it before my boss does this --->:rtfm:

I stuck to dex for accuracy in the past so I assume its still the same.
ATT is confirmed to add nothing to WS ? So does it only affect regular hits?

Ill come back later to read after work.

Haste and accuracy should be stacked for TPing, along with the 11STP needed for a 6-hit build in certain situations. Dex doubles as accuracy so it doesn't hurt but shouldn't be a priority.

Some recent tests (in the OP link) shows Y/G/K get a large attack boost so stacking attack does little to nothing while STR can still increase your damage. None of the WS can crit so DEX is irrelevant.

TP and WS sets should look nothing alike, I kinda got the impression you were using one build for both. Certainly at 75 the majority of a SAMs damage does come from WSs so this is a very important set to focus on.

those attack tests on YGK i read them some time ago, maybe there are new ones now but... when I read the thread the guy made conclusions out of a sample of 10 ws..which made me lol, again. I hope there are decent tests now if people claim the attack boost doesnt exist.

The initial sample was 40 WS each, then he upped the sample size to 100 WS; which is enough to see a difference. There's probably more now, but he had a good sample size the day after he posted his initial findings.

ATK does matter. Gekko's ATK bonus was around 50% from what I remember (Kasha and Yuzi are less than Gekko). So when your meriting, after your buffs your probably close to capping or already capped on ATK. But for anything harder (and not under the effect of angon), that probably isn't the case.

I think sam body doesn't really matter out of those 3. Pick one that you like the most and stick with it. I use all 3 in differnt situations but meh either or will get the job done. Considering imo having gear switching out with sam is stupid because that 2-3 seconds it takes you could already be 50% into your next ws then 150% into your first one :).I'd rather pop off 2 1,200 ws then one 1,500 imo of course.

If it takes you 2-3 seconds to swap your gear, you're doing it manually. The rest of us use macros and there's no loss of time.

Spellcast or use windower macros. Even on PS2 it didn't take longer than 1-2s to hit 5 macros.

Do you even know how fast (or slow) you attack... 2-3s to 50% TP isn't even remotely close to GKT speed
