If I do this assault I usually go as RDM. Only thing I really do is cast dispel on my allocated target whenever he is charmed. Now is there any real benefit to doing this as RDM/anything as opposed to BLM/RDM? I'd have thought a dispel is a dispel and it shouldn't make any difference as long as I have the mp to cast it whenever needed.

The reason I ask, is that I am in a lazy mood and want to set a run up and can't be arsed to change job + gear if it makes no real difference to the outcome.

Crosis went as BRD/RDM and Rappa WHM/RDM when I did it. Having multiple dispels is more important than having it on a main.

not really. The higher level cures do make things a tad easier when it comes to keeping the npc's alive though.

I've done this with my static and we've never had problems healing the Npcs. 3 Dispells is pretty much all that's needed.

Kinda what I thought. I've found that I very rarely need to heal the npcs anyway. Cure 3 is plenty for that. Only thing I can think of is the lack of refresh, but BLM starts with more mp anyway and I can get my hume blm up to around 1100 mp + Demon's + sanction refresh would be mp enough.

yeah hence a tad instead of "omg how do you even think of letting people in without cure IV+"? it just means more cure spamming due to being stuck with piddly old cure3.

BST/RDM would be killer for this. CourrierCarrie tanks Lamia No. 13 like a pro. I only end up having to use one Zeta, and this is doing a 6 person run. I probably wouldn't even need that if it was 3.

As BST, Carrie will likely keep hate. She hits 13 fairly hard. The benefit to this, is that so long as Carrie is 13's target, 13 cannot charm the npcs.

PUP/RDM might work, but I'm not sure. Automatons have significantly less HP than Familiars.

edit:

PCs that stand too close can still be charmed, however.

go with 3 BLM and then you DONT want to make NPC live, they must die asap then nuke lamia.

They are also important for leeching purposes

Whenever I've done this in a trio with my usual friends we have Gwathuial as SMN/BRD, which works just as well as /RDM, plus you get Ballad.

Yeah, everytime I went for this one, must've done it about 30 times, always had brd, rdm, blm/rdm, heck, even blu once for their dispel. Easiest with 3 dispellers and nothing else, but I've done it with other setups before that just melee'd the lamia, and it kinda worked, but wasn't as easy.

Anyways, I know everyone else in my group usually wants to keep the fomors alive so they cure them a lot, most of the time though they won't die that quickly, those things have loads of hp, so I'll barely cure my own, and even if one dies, it shouldn't be too much of a problem unless you're relying on them to kill the lamia, in which it takes 20 minutes or so for them to kill her on their own with 3.

if you want to do this assult fast you should let Lamia to kill fomors as Mdkuser said before, then nuke her. You need 3 dispells + gravity. 3 BLMs or 2 BLMs + RDM can complete this assult under 15 min.

We'd usually do this with 6, three dispellers and three melees. We'd dispel the fomor type guys and then melees would join them in the fray. Never had to heal the fomors, and usually Lamia 13 would recharm the fomors before the PC's, in which case we just dispel again. Every once in a while she'd charm the melees, and then laughs would ensue. Never lost the fight, usually finished in about 10-12 minutes iirc. Dispellers would usually be a combination of RDM, BLM/RDM, WHM/RDM, or BRD/whatever. Noone ever had trouble landing dispels regardless of their job.

Done it RDM, WHM/RDM and NIN. NIN could also have gone another job for dispel, but it goes quicker while meleeing I think. In the case that someone tanks, there are three things to keep in mind:
1. Dispel the mele first, they hit harder than any of the NPCs.
2. Don't buff. If any PC gets charmed, you will end up just dispelling buffs before removing charm.
3. Have the tank engage and get hate, then pull Lamia 13 out of melee range of the BLM NPC. Once that happens, the BLM NPC will use hard nukes instead of meleeing like a sissy. =P

For your dispel concern, I was only resisted once and I am unsure why. At the time, I was in a rush so I didn't keep a good look at the chat log and I also neglected to change into enfeebling gear and dark stave. I'd assume with decent enfeebling gear, a BLM wouldn't be a problem.

Edit: I forgot part of reason 3. If you pull Lamia away from the BLM, it also means the BLM will not be charmed along with other two NPC and the melee. In the times I did it, once everyone was charmed, they immediately went for the BLM which means dispellers have a lot easier time dispelling.
