Agreed, why don't they use something to the method of iTunes cards, which are in dollar increments instead of arbitrary point systems that never end up even. It's a ploy to get you to overspend such as in Firestreak's examples.
Also, MS' supposed innovation into home interactivity is nothing new. Smart homes have been on the upswing among newly built houses for several years now. Bill Gates himself has a smart house that most everything is remote/voice controlled. That doesn't mean his company designed all of it or that he didn't pay out the ass for a slight gain in lazy man living.
Every idea stems from sci-fi 50 years old it seems. The only innovative ideas are ones that make something worthwhile and useful available to the average person. I don't care if Billionaire Gates can make a house that turns his wall into a control center for his comic book (read: porn) collection at the cost of 200 million dollars. I'll care when they can make that technology available to Joe Schmo who makes 60k a year to support his family.
